Comfortable and well maintained. We got a friendly and helpful welcome.. We were just yards from the water and we could safely leave our kayaks just above the high tide line. One added benefit for us (obviously, can’t guarantee this for everyone) while having morning coffee we got to watch a lone sea otter commute to its clan. It liked to swim on its back. The little town of Sointula, its island and the adjacent island with Alert Bay all have fascinating histories. We’ll certainly return.
Pleasantly surprised with how quiet the hotel was, impressed with the view and conveniently situated right next to the ferry terminal. Would stay again for sure, can't beat coffee on the balcony, even on the fogged in mornings. There was such a calm vibe surrounding the town. The museum is chalk full of awesome history and artifacts and only a 3 minute walk away. Locals are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to the next visit and seeing more of the Island!
Rustic but extremely clean with the most comfortable hotel beds we’ve slept in for years. We were in room 208 with an unrestricted view of the water, right next to the ferry slip and the town core. The communal kitchen is a great feature with everything you need to prepare a meal if you’re so inclined. There is also a mini fridge and coffee maker in the room. We were there for three nights and have never slept so well. Got to meet Ray and found him to be very friendly and helpful during our stay.
A beautiful, nice quiet getaway place along ocean, only 25 minute ferry ride from Port NcNeill. Hiking trails on island leads you to peabble beach where orcas frequent. Owners very friendly. I went during fall seaaon when island co-op grocery store is closed on Sunday & Mondays. Owners let me know to pick up groceries beforehand 8n Port McNeil . Would definitely come back again and recommend to friends.
My wife and recently travelled to Malcolm Island and had a very pleasant stay at the Oceanfront Hotel. The ownership was very responsive and professional and were committed to making our stay as enjoyable as possible. The hotel is right downtown with all amenities close by...we highly recommend Coho Joe's for breakfast and lunch! Sointula is a fantastic escape to take your bikes, paddleboards or kayaks, and the Oceanfront Hotel is a quaint and cozy hotel that is priced accordingly.
We were able to spend three peaceful nights at the Ocean Front Hotel. Perfect location right on the water a few steps from the ferry. Covid has restricted life a little but friendly people abound. We did the two major walks from Bere Point and to BIg Lake. Never a smooth path to be seen. Enough choice on finding food as the Hotel has a take a way and there is the Burger Barn at the harbour. Interesting museum to learn the history. Always helpful owner and the dog loved it all.
Our 3 night escape up-island was a refreshing birthday weekend getaway and the Oceanfront was a big part of that, starting with the early check-in to get full value for our first day. appreciated having two big beds and the big balcony was private and a great window on the beach and sea which was constantly entertaining, be it seals playing in the kelp, fishers reeling in salmon, or the night i watched 3 orcas following a straight line from the ferry's wake to the entrance to broughton strait. It was calming and ever-changing watching the light slowly fade from our deck on all nights. There is a reassuring, retro feel to the hotel, but that doesn't mean dated. And it was quiet, as is the island, except for the seals slapping the water. Speaking of which, the water pressure in the hotel was amazing and hot was hot right away and it was nice to have a tub. The big bonus, with limited eating options on the isle at present, was to have access to a full kitchen. and Robyn, the manager, helped me in getting a cake from the bakery for our 'birthday dinner' dessert. The take-out window at the hotel also helped in that endeavour and prepared a vegetarian option specifically for my wife. Felt like a throwback to a kinder, gentler world when we were on Malcolm island. And Robyn is a fabric artist, using dyes from island plants on 'repurposed' clothes that are on display near the reception. My wife came home with a few of them as a present to herself. A totally, satisfying, peaceful and rejuvenating visit in strange times.…
The room was more than adequate for our needs. View from balcony breathtaking. Spotlessly clean and well presented. Great communal kitchen with everything you would need to prepare a meal. Robin and team run a great place. Food from the take-out window was really good.
How is it possible more people don't know about this location? From the beautiful, cozy, clean, and homey accommodations, to the stunning beach front views that are chalked FULL of wildlife and sea life, this is definitely somewhere my family and I will come back time and time again! The owners of the hotel, Ray and Robin are both charming, caring, attentive, and incredibly hospitable. They deserve to have their hotel shouted from the top of everyone's lungs for the whole world to know! Pros: SUPER comfy beds, pillows, and soft bedding. AMAZING location. BEAUTIFUL island full of gorgeous scenic gems. VERY friendly island folk, they will all wave and say hi to you! GREAT showers. PERFECT balconies. AWESOME owners. QUIET and relaxing! SO family friendly!!!! Cons: WE COULDN'T STAY LONGER!…
Beautiful views overlooking the ocean with very active marine life. We were fortunate to see dolphins, seals, minks and eagles daily from our balcony. The sound of waves along with the perception of staying right on the ocean is one of the best features of this hotel. The beach out front is perfect for beach combing for sea glass, drift wood and other hidden treasures. Stayed in the Green Lodge 3 apartment with a full kitchen, which was ideal for travelling with an 8 month old. The room itself was family friendly and very cozy. The location of the hotel is right in the centre of the main strip, and walking distance from local establishments like the Co-Op grocery and Coho Joe's Cafe. It is also only a 10 minute drive from some stunning hikes, one of which takes you to a beach where whales frequent and even come close to shore to rub against the rocks. Overall we had an amazing time and we will definitely be coming back to stay here!…
