The Oceanfront Hotel is a pet friendly family owned business that has been run by us ( Robin and Ray ) for the last 30 years. It boasts panoramic sea views from the majority of our rooms. Guests can enjoy the sound of the ocean from their balconies and bring along their pets for the ultimate family getaway. This beachfront property is located 250 feet from Sointula ferry terminal. Your ferry fare includes the return trip and seniors travel free from Monday - Thursday. Cable TV, a microwave, coffee pot, tea kettle, and a mini fridge is standard in each brightly decorated room with use of a communal kitchen. Private kitchens and kitchenettes are also available in select rooms. Free wifi is offered in all areas. Whale-watching, sports fishing and crabbing charters are available, just ask us! Beach combing for sea-glass, hiking trails and kayaking opportunities are also available from our property! Come enjoy our small island lifestyle, and leave feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and at peace! Oh, and please drink the water! It's the best in the world! We offer both short and long term accommodations. While our pub is currently closed due to COVID, we have opened a new takeout window that is open for lunch and dinner from 11:30-1:30/5-8 every day! Fun Fact: Malcolm Island was listed as one of the Canada's best island getaways in Canadian Geographic Travel magazine in the Summer 2017.

It was our pleasure being stranded in Sointula while staying in this quaint, eclectic and charming hotel. A 5-Star view, with a comfortable and functional room; a great value.

We were forced to get aquatinted with the delightful little community of Sointula as we waited for replacement boat parts. Robin and Ray were our hosts and the hotel was a perfect temporary home.

The hotel is within walking distance to the ferry dock, co-op grocery store or free loaner bikes. Our room had a kitchenette so, more than just toast in the morning, we could dine in for dinner when we wanted. The ONLY place to eat dinner in Sointula (June) was downstairs in their pub.

This accommodation is like stepping back in time and it brought back childhood memories of accommodation.
The rooms are comfortable and quaintly decorated. They have a fridge in the room which is most helpful if you are travelling with a cooler and need food items stored. The beds were comfortable and the room had all we needed.
There is a full kitchen available for guests to use with utensils, dishes, pots and pans and a stove. There is a table and chairs as well as a sofa so it is really a great added benefit if you stay here.
There was not a hair dryer or shampoo in the room but you just need to ask at the front desk and they will gladly supply what you need.
It was a fun place to visit.

Quaint, clean rooms with beautiful ocean views. Hotel owner is friendly and adds her unique artistic touches to the rooms to make them feel “homey”. Found some beautiful sea glass pieces, there are tons of craft grade pieces and for well trained eyes.....some fantastic collector pieces to be found right in front of the hotel.
We love Bere Point, even if whales aren’t viewed, the shoreline there is spectacular.

Views from our deck were spectacular of the sunsets. Gorgeous shots. Lovely to sit on the deck wrapped in afghans and enjoy the evening views over the water to the lights of Port McNeil. Amazing staff and owners who were so incredibly helpful!!! Felt like we had know them for years. The Rub Pub had good food and again very friendly staff and locals as well. With such a warm welcoming feeling it is easy to think of returning.

My Husband and I planned a trip in late June 2017, staying at the Oceanfront Hotel. Decided to look for a Summer Place after meeting the hotel owner Robin Smith. Such a down to earth and caring lady, so welcoming and eager to give tips to make our trip more interesting. Robin suggested hiking trails, restaurants, beaches. Enjoyed this village so much we decided to speak with a local real estate person recommended by Robin. Joy Davidson was also interesting, knowledgeable and took time to get to know us while we looked at several different properties.

Sointula is unique and offers something for everyone. The Oceanfront Hotel is very clean, nice comfy rooms, onsite pub, atm, knowledgable staff that know the Island. OceanFront also offers fishing guide service. Hotel is right on the water, it offers a nice walkable beach, beautiful views from rooms or the Pub. There is also a common kitchen everyone can use. There is easy to access to the Grocery Store/Co-op and a few restaurants. We found the handmade blankets very welcome on cool June nights gazing at the view. Super relaxing and friendly village. There are bikes available for use, free of charge at the Visitors Center. We stayed as a family 3 different occasions June, Aug and Sept. in 2017. Felt right at home and have now purchased a home nearby.

The Oceanfront is located a few minute walk to the Ferry, A Bakery and the Grocery. I would certainly think if you really wanted to explore Malcolm Island you should bring a car. This is a very outdoorsy, friendly and down to earth, fishing, kayaking, boating, one of a kind community. Love the Artsy Feel, Fabulous Sunsets, nearby Marina. It is convenient to have the ability to enjoy Happy Hour at the Pub, Karaoke on Saturday Nights! If you are friendly and enjoy people, you have hit the jackpot. Fun to exchange Fishing Stories and meet the Locals. Went for a day and now will be a part-time resident!

Let me just say...I'd love to retire here. The Hotel is unique to say the least. Our room was baby blue and lovely. MILLION DOLLAR VIEW!!!! We went on a Monday when there is nothing open, as it is off season but the manager was willing to feed us <3 My sister knew some of the locals so we were set. If you love peace and quiet, this is the place for you. My favourite places have always been Tofino and Ukie...But now my number one choice is Sointula <3

Although it was an unusually cold June day that promised rain the next morning, the people that greeted us at The Oceanfront Hotel were warm and welcoming. They had placed our family in two neighbouring rooms and Ray and Robin advised us on where we could find meals on a quiet, off-season Sunday evening when there were fewer amenities available than in the summer months.

The rooms were colourful, with a nod to the community's Finnish roots. Bedding and curtains had a creative flair that pleasantly surprised me. The view out from the balcony was wonderful, overlooking Broughton Strait, with Port McNeill in the distance. A cruise ship on its way back from Alaska slowly waded its way south. The peace and quiet was wonderful. I wish we could have stayed there longer. I'd highly recommend staying at The Oceanfront in Sointula.

The oceanfront balcony rooms make us feel like we are on a wonderful cruise ship looking out to sea! Rustic, spacious, comfortable and very clean accommodation complete with duvets and handmade crocheted blankets for the balcony chairs. We used the well-appointed communal kitchen to make breakfast and some dinners. The Whale's Rub Pub is a great spot for a drink, downstairs in the hotel with the same ocean view. We understand that the Ravintola Restaurant, also in the hotel, is open during the summer months. So much to see on beautiful Malcolm Island. We will be back!

We are staying here. The hotel is great. Friendly staff. Our room is perfect for what we need. Clean and accommodating. Has a kitchen if need for communal use. Has a local vibe which is why we booked it. Located right on beach beside ferry terminal. Make sure to bring groceries if staying as I can say for the month of May there is not alot of places to eat out. Sointula is a beautiful place slower pace and peaceful which is perfect. I suggest to bring a vehicle so you can explore. The island has gravel access roads to some great places.

Thanks for your review. We are happy you had a good visit to Sointula. We are also happy to announce that there is a new place to eat in town, next to the hotel. They make fabulous pizza and are open Thursday - Monday from 4-8. The Burger Barn is also open those days. If you come on a Tuesday or Wed. you still need to bring food for dinner. We have a guest kitchen you can use! Hope you come back again. Robin
