Just returned from a family wedding on the island and had a wonderful stay. Our room 210 was lovely with the most outstanding view. The deck was my favorite spot! Dining on the island is very limited so be prepared. The room is equipped with a hotplate, microwave, bar fridge and a toaster oven so very adequate to cook your own . The island is fantastic to visit and Sointula is truly a "Place of Harmony".
Came here for 4 nights! Comfy bed and wicked staff! Room over looking the beach and The Broughton Straight. Quiet and relaxing! Fishing was amazing came home with coolers full of fish! Only complaint is that I didn't stay longer. Great trip and a cheap price. Thanks to Ray & Robin we had an amazing time!
We had an over nighter and got upgraded to a suite with a fantastic view. Loved the sun room where we could enjoy our cocktail before dinner. Bed was super comfy. Had a great nights sleep. Heated floors in the bathroom were a great touch. All new bathroom fixtures. Super clean. Fresh towels. All good. The Island is interesting. Eclectic comes to mind. Visited Alert Bay last year and also enjoyed our one night stay. Two very different Islands. Trekked to the light house (easy walk) and to Bere Point. No whales but beautiful scenery. Friendly people.
We visited here a couple of weeks ago. They appeared to be refurbishing some areas in the hotel. We were told the dining room was closed and would not be reopening because they could not find a cook. No food available except for some bar snacks. Very hospitable bar host, (Trevor from London England). We spent a pleasant hour over drinks while waiting for the ferry back to Port McNeill. The bar features a quaint library with some interesting old books. Beautiful waterfront location but it would be nice if they opened the dining room as restaurants are scarce or non-existent locally. We intended to stay overnight but when I called the day before I got an answering machine with a message instructing me to leave a message. I left my phone number but heard nothing back. I made…
We drove to Port Hardy and took a short ferry ride to Sointula. We stayed at the Inn in a kitchen suite. The view was spectacular. Management was very helpful. I would recommend this Inn with no difficulty.
Stayed in the Inn.. fabulous views.. ordered a great dinner in advance..ate on deck! Visited Gary and his Wolves, hiked the lighthouse trail. Walked thru other trail with amazing greenery and creeks. Ferry ride from Port Mcneil lovely.
Stayed overnight with hiking group in June 2016. This is an older building, but excellent accomodation. We rented 4 rooms on the second floor with an ocean view. The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. Ray, the owner cooked us all a special meal which we had arranged prior to arriving. The meal was great, the service great, views were wonderful. We were treated very well. We included this trip with a visit to Gary and his wolves. It was very educational.
Sointula is Finnish for a place of harmony. The same could be said for the Malcolm Island Inn (and the Whale's Pub Rub which is part of the Inn). The Inn is located within a short walk from the ferry depot and even in off-season, it is a remarkable place to stay. My room, no. 228, overlooked Broughton Channel and although I did not see a whale, the vistas were magnificent! And the bed (one of two queen-sized beds) was so comfortable that I slept like a baby. If there is a down-side, the Internet is not quick and in the winter, you may have to cook your own meal in the available kitchen. But there are ways around that and the Co-op can sell you food.
We stayed for 3 nights in Green Lodge #3 , awesome clean room with a million dollar view from the room & deck and VERY dog friendly ! It has a full kitchen for preparing meals in your room. The Rub Pub is great for a pint or five ! and good to meet the locals on the Island , It is attached to the Inn. The owners , Ray & Robin are fantastic hosts , try to have a few beers with them in the pub ! Thanks Guys for an amazing stay !! See you again.
We stayed at this Inn about 3 weeks ago and found it to be adequate. The location is perfect as is close to everything. The room we were in was old but bathroom had been upgraded. The beds and the linens were excellent but appliances were all garage sale level. The view from balcony was million dollar. Do not expect high end hotel amenities. A lot of history on the Island and the hosts were accommodating.
