From the moment we opened the doors this place had us! The sound of the crashing waves, the bright open kitchen and living room, a very thoughtfully stocked kitchen and bathroom. This place is the place to stay on Malcolm island. Free wifi, big comfy couches and TV (should it be a beautiful rainy west coast day) if needed. The lodge is a short walk to the downtown area where Sointula residents proudly boast the oldest Co-op in BC where you have to go to get your Sointula swag!
The island is amazing to explore and I would say both Beautiful bay and the lighthouse are a must.
We will definitely be back to explore the island more and enjoy the peacefulness of the amazing Orca Lodge!

We stayed in the smaller suite and it was great. When we walked in, we were very impressed with how clean and well kept it was. They have everything you need including a small BBQ on the deck. It rained pretty much the entire time we were there so we didn’t get a chance to sit on the deck for any length of time, but when we did, we thoroughly enjoyed the view and listening to the waves right below us.
The host was great, called us the day before we were to arrive to let us know about the suite and the island and places to see, she also text us on the day of arrival to ensure we arrived and were able to access the suite. The washroom was a fair size and had wonderful heated floors. We would definitely recommend staying here and will stay again the next time we are on the island

This is our second visit to Malcom island. Our first visit staying at Orca Lodge….but not our last. We were pleasantly surprised to see how bright and comfortable our accommodation was. We had both suites on the lower floor for our family of 7. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything you need. Very happy. The beds are very comfortable ….falling asleep with the sound of the ocean so close was very peaceful. The linen was fresh and soft. No shortage of blankets or pillows.
We were extremely lucky to see a humpback whale swimming only 150 away from our deck when we first arrived. So exciting!!!! Porpoises swan out front every day. Eagles 🦅 nested in a near by tree.
Lynne is an amazing lovely host. Thank you Lynne for accommodating our family. We will return soon.

Wonderful place to stay. View is incredible and very relaxing as you laze on the balcony. Hostess is like the friend you haven’t met yet, and all amenities are provided. We took our two dogs and they were just as happy as we were. Loved our walk to the lighthouse and meeting local people. Hope to be back one day!

Looking out the front windows each day at the sun and sea lapping right up and under the front porch, you can't help getting the feeling that you are on a fabulous cruise. But you are on land, and in a bright clean modern refinished boat house that is solid, warm, quiet and cozy. There's no engine noise. We stayed four nights at Orca Lodge in the lower 2 BR suite, myself, my wife and my 88 year old mother. The place was perfect for my mom because there are no steps and the place immediately feels like home. It's big. Every possible appliance is provided in the well equipped kitchen, even a deep fryer, in case you want to make fish and chips. It's tempting because the owners stocked the freezer with plenty of fresh frozen sockeye salmon and halibut, all included in the price! The kitchen cupboards had quite a lot of staples such as salt and sugar, oil and vinegar, spices, tea and some coffee, and even bread crumbs. There's even a giant pot for boiling whole crabs, if you find any at the nearby fishing dock.

Sointula is a wonderful old fishing village in a remote corner of Vancouver Island but it is so much more. We enjoyed the museum which shows how Finnish idealists first tried to create a utopian community there around 1900. We also enjoyed a Finnish sauna a couple of kilometres down the beach from Orca Lodge (not included in the price). Shops and services close early and hours are limited but there are two excellent places to go out to eat, the Burger Shack in the harbour in one direction, or the pub near the ferry terminal. There's also a great bakery, but get there early as the good stuff goes fast. Finally, the co-op store is the oldest co-op in British Columbia and they have everything.

To get back to the lodge: the beds were excellent. All the towels and bedding were new and fresh and clean. The place was incredibly quiet. You could not hear the 4 guys in the suite upstairs. Wonderful fresh cool air from the sea even on hot days. Easy lovely walks along the pebble beach or the quiet road. Super high end barbecue out on the porch overlooking the sea. What more could you ask for? OK: a wood burning fireplace. That would have been nice. But other than that, Orca Lodge has everything you could ever desire. Highly recommended, and a good deal for three or more people.

We recently rented one of the larger suites and it was perfect for a larger group - lots of comfortable places to sleep and also in a great location. We were also accommodated in terms of an early arrival. We will definitely stay here again if we go on a similar trip in the future!

Just had a family get together at the Orca Lodge. What a great experience! The lodge is clean, comfortable, and spacious, and has everything you could possibly want and more, and the view from the deck is magnificent! It's a great place to stay and we would go back and stay there again for sure.

We just spent the long weekend at the Orca Lodge, Sointula on Malcolm Island What an ideal location. The beds are so comfy and fresh. We slept well with the comfort of the ocean rhythm. The decks keep you interested in watching what’s going on in the water or counting the passing Cruise Ships.

We lucked in with the hosts (Lynne & Len), being there with many family members. They included us in all the activities, fishing, dinners, enjoying wine on the deck, much conversations and laughs, watching the eagles right in front of the Lodge, exploring the Island, seeing the wild life, stop at the pub, and watching the Annual Base Ball Tournament. Never a dull moment. The Orca is such a peaceful inviting setting you can choose your own pace.

The fishing was very good. Dinners included Halibut and White Salmon. Also we checked the crab traps and enjoyed fresh Dungeness Crab. Wow. Where could you eat better? With all that fresh air .. Sleeping was a dream.

We met many of the locals at the Ball Park, ate oysters & prawns, and of course hamburgers or hotdogs while having a cold one in the Beer Gardens. The entertainment was right there, people watching or watching the games.

This was truly a memorable weekend. We hope to visit again real soon. Thanks for your hospitality and friendship.

Cheers,

Luciano Corvelo

Loved this great accommodation in Sointula. I stayed in the double room. It had a beautiful deck which got the sun all afternoon and was hard to leave! The mist rolls over the water in the morning, it’s so mystical to watch, then burns off by the afternoon. A little otter popped up on the beach below one day and at night there’s a lovely view of Port McNeill all lit up across the bay. Inside, the room was beautifully decorated and equipped and with the wood finish, felt like being on a (very nice) boat! The best part was when at full tide the water laps under the house which is on stilts. Pure Magic! The location between the town and marina is great and there are free bikes in town so I was able to ditch the car for my stay. Well worth taking the ferry over to Alert Bay too if you have time during your stay. It’s free and there’s a great First National museum there.
Really loved my stay here - so comfortable, different and the hosts were really welcoming. I would love to go back some day. Top marks, and some!
