Arriving at Santorini was an awful experience. Oia and Fira are invaded by hordes of tourists. The whole area (except for the amazing archeological museum) reeks of bad taste and mass tourism so much that the beauty of the caldeira cannot be thoroughly enjoyed.

We were therefore extremely lucky to find this little pearl: away from the hordes of tourists, but close to the nice beach and to a lovely little port. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the (salt water) swimming pool is large, with a sunny and a shaded part at every hour, the surroundings are very pretty (a Cycladic church, a nice village, beautiful trees, ...) and the hotel itself is surprisingly very clean and comfortable. Rooms are large enough with a decent balcony.

We are accustomed to pricier accomodation, but this just felt like a simple friendly place, not a cheap one.

If you're not looking for luxury, but for comfort, a swimming pool and the sea close by, but mostly if you're looking for a nice family place and not a tourist trap, then I would heartily recommend Hotel Porto Castello to you.

Located in a small town very close to the airport and Fira. They offer a regular free shuttle into town, and a reasonable airport shuttle too!
It’s a very quiet area, sometimes we were the only people on the beach which was amazing. Rooms are basic but very clean with a fridge and kettle. All the staff were so friendly and kind, we particularly liked George the driver. I would say you should do your research before staying here, if you don’t like to be secluded then it’s not for you.

If you are looking for reasonable price with easy access to Fira, this is the right hotel for you. They offer free transfer from airport and every 2 hours to Fira. The hotel has a nice pool and is located nearby a beach which is similar to Kamari or Perissa, but much calmer. Rooms are ok, greek standard. Only problem is the breakfast, which is quite poor, without any vegetables or fruits and the same every day.

I have been coming to Santorini since I was a kid.
We have family here for over a 80 years.

Porto Castello is NOT on the caldera with the view. But it is exactly what I need for a hotel. Family owned and run by Adonis the father, Cindy his daughter, and George her husband.
They run the place like a fine tuned machine. The rooms are nice, great water pressure which is random on islands, Wi-Fi, breakfast, shuttle bus into Fira.

They have been remodeling the rooms, pool, and the breakfast room with new marble and keep it great shape.

It is 50 meters to Exo Gialo Beach which has a amazing restaurant Yialo with great reviews but pricey.

I’m Greek American and the older I get I don’t spend much time in the hotel. I just want a clean, local, and affordable hotel because I’m out all day seeing the island. That’s why we come to Santorini for the sites, the sunset and the Filoxenia.

For my family and I we will always stay here and feel right at home.

The location is not very convenient if you do not drive. There is a hotel shuttle bus to Fira once in two hours up to midnight but the shuttle but from Fira at midnight was overloaded and not very safe. The shuttle bus looked very old and the seat belts were broken, could not used them.
The rooms were quite spacious but the bathroom was tiny and just did not look clean enough.
The receptionist wasn`t very welcoming, did not give us any information about the hotel and just did not make us feel welcome as we are used to in Greece.

We were glad we did not stay more than one night.
The rooms were very nosy. Got woken up at night a lot by people talking and singing and slumming the door.
I guess you get what your pay for.

If you want no faff quality clean accomodation then this is the place for you. Within spitting distance of a pleasant port and stoney beach it's a perfect and idyllic location to while away the hours in the sun. The hotel provide a bus into the capital every two hours but we hired a car and explored .
Reception and staff were attentive and friendly .
Will definitely return

The hotel is very close the beach, in Santorini, which is a paradise, but needs to improve. First of all, I had lots of luggages and they put me on the second floor and although the reception guy helped me, it could be better if they could put me on a floor with not much stairs, since they don´t have lift, but at this point it can be a problem of mine, to travel with many luggages. But the room was not good also, it is tight and the bathroom was even funny, so terrible it is. They don´t have a real shower, only a handy shower with no support, which makes a bath to be a challenge... not wet all the bathroom is impossible, just because you can´t control the shower at all

I found this hotel through trip advisor and have to say that was the best decision ever.
Great location to relax. Two minutes walking distance to the beach.
Swimming pool with sea water it was something what I really enjoyed.
It's a bit far to the town of Thira but hotel can provide transfer both ways every two hours.
I loved my room and especially small and sweet kitten who was waiting for me every morning ❤
The hotel is really clean and it's a great option for long term holiday without spending the fortune.
People are really friendly and I have to say I'm gonna miss them but hopefully will come back next year.
Cindy thank you for amazing time and your kindness.
See you next year.

This is a great example of an inexpensive hotel, especially on Santorini which is an expensive island to visit (compared with other Cycladic islands). If you are expecting the plushness of a more expensive hotel (you can pay what price you like on Santorini) then you will be disappointed. But if like us you want a quiet location close-to but away from the noisy hubbub of Fira, at a sensible price, then this is perfect. It's spotlessly clean and efficiently run. Rooms have effective aircon, The pool and terrace area is a delight. The hamlet of Exo Gialos is tiny and peaceful with a picturesque harbour and simple beach with a lovely chilled beach bar/restaurant for lounging, daytime drinks, lunches and romantic dinners; it's a great, quiet location. The hotel driver runs a reliable hourly minibus to Fira and will pick you up. They will even drop you at the port or airport (please leave this reliable, hard-working man a tip). The other staff and manager are also charming and helpful. My only suggestion for improvement at this price-point is a few more choices for breakfast. Thank you Porto Castello.
