We had a great day fly fishing with a private guide. We met up at the lodge and stepped into our waders (those tall water pants) then the guide (Jeremy) took us to a really calm and beautiful fishing spot and taught us how to fly fish. We had both had some previous fishing experience and knew how to perform a basic cast. The technique of fly fishing took a bit of time to learn, but by the afternoon we were throwing some pretty good casts and caught a total of 3 salmon between the 2 of us! They served us a great lunch and we had time for a short nap. We did not stay at the Country Haven Lodge because the cost of a night was about double what our budget was for overnight accommodations. We probably would have splurged if it was about $50 less per night. The grounds did look quite…
3 couples enjoyed and relaxed over the past weekend - it was amazing from accommodations, equipped kitchen, amazing views, water like crystal, gazebo for gathering with friends....I can't say enough it is worth the drive up Rte 118 .......
Just spent 3 days in one of the cottages at Country Haven Lodge. Byron was an excellent host and took great care of us, including sorting out a fishing experience for the whole family. We were all complete beginners. Our guide Gary was a real star and showed us all what to do with the sort of quiet calm wisdom that only a seasoned pro can offer. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable. Wonderful views over the river. If you are in the area also consider the Bear Safari near Rogersville.
In many visits to Country Haven, I have consistently experienced an absolutely wonderful Lodge experience. Specifically, the home cooked meals and the attentive staff, whose relationship has evolved into one of family, and comfort of surroundings cannot be improved upon. I have visited many lodges and find my experience here as top! There are two unique fishing characteristics here that stand out most. First of all, Byron has access to so many pools on the Miramichi River system, I would be at a loss to name them all. So, regardless of water level, there is NEVER a shortage of fresh water and fresh fish opportunity. The second unique characteristic of Country Haven's quality fishing lies in the Guides. They are the best group of guys, who happen to know their water as well…
Great people! A simple way to describe your experience at Counrty Haven...the first time I fished the camp some 5 years ago we had a great experience, great food, knowledgeable guides...everything we could have hoped for...on the most recent trip 5 years later the guides and staff remembered my family from that previous trip...and some of the good times we shared then...exceptional service again...many of the same knowledgable guides, and camp staff...so friendly...and to top it all off great fishing.
I don't like Leaving ! The Salmon fishing makes country haven special & the team make it extra special ! I whole heartedly recommend a stay whether you are looking to fish for Atlantic Salmon or just want to enjoy a relaxing break on the banks of the river. I must also add that both the comfort of the lodge & the home cooking are excellent!
We were very much looking forward to fly fishing for Atlantic salmon, but were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality and accommodations here. We stayed in one of the cabins, but the main lodge appeared very comfortable as well. The ladies in the kitchen made us feel right at home, and the owner spent an hour just chatting with us one evening. The food was simple yet hearty and very tasty. Very welcoming atmosphere.
I have been visiting Byzies place for 7 years now, in the summer and fall. No matter what time of the year they provide many pools with tons of opportunity to land that 20 pounder of the lifetime. The team at Country Haven are awesome, they make you feel like family and they fix great home cooked meals. The accomodations are great and the team accomadates all requests. Byzie works very hard to ensure everyone has an opportunity to hook fish. The guides are outgoing and knowledgable. The one piece that impresses me the most is the amount of pools Byzie has available and they are some of the best on the river. I look forward to my return this year.
Stayed at the Country Haven Lodge in October and I have not been able to get that adventurous week out of my mind! Mindblowing scenery, productive Atlantic Salmon fishing and a rich history. The guides were very knowlegable and all the guests were catching fish! The lodge itself was able to keep up with its surroundings. The cabins and rooms were clean and comfortable. Our meal time experiences were as good as the fishing with home cooked meals 'like mom used to make.' The staff members were so professional with a great sense of humor. There were a lot of laughs on and off the river and I sure do hope to get back out to this place again one day! Thank you so much for the positive memories! :D ~ Sincerely Jennifer de Graaf
It's hard to say which is the most enjoyable about fishing the Miramichi River from Country Haven Lodge. I had my first experience at Country Haven Lodge in 2002 and this year will be my 13th straight trip. From the staff, the guides, the meals, the facility, and of course the fishing, this is the best there is on the Miramichi. Guarantee that if you go once you'll want to go back whenever possible. Country Haven is exactly what this place is! Go as a guest and you'll leave as a friend. Mike L
