After 4 hours of driving from S Wales was getting hungry , saw the (posh) sign on A170 for Carpenters arms and took a chance
It was excellent , good job my wife took over driving following a fantastic lunch
Service was impeccable and food , I just had the rump steak sandwich with French fries. It was top quality beef , very tasty and a generous portion for a tenner . Rarely been treated so well for such a price
Ambiance was great , busy , just managed to fit us "walk ins" in
Very clean

We booked one night away DBB which didn't disappoint. We had a walk round the village then ventured into the bar for pre dinner drinks The room was upgraded to our delight and was very nice. Comfy bed large Bathroom with underfloor heating. Felt very spoilt.
The lounge had comfy sofas and a gas fire imitating a log fire and cosy. Restaurant wasn't overly busy but the bar was and given its location a real local venue.
The food was delicious Twice bake cheese soufflé and Venison which was cooked to perfection. My Partner had beef burger which was disappointing for him. We shared a dessert sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. After a comfortable night's sleep we had breakfast. Eggs Benedict and a full English and we were on our way. Staff friendly and polite. Definite recommend a visit. We will be back.

Visited this pub with wife and friends. Have been many times here before but food eaten today was only average. Soufflé appeared as a lump on the plate not in a ramekin. Others had Korean chicken - nice taste but double the quantity needed. Pork belly with nice crispy skin. Fish and chips - nice fish but too large portion. Desserts - limited selection. The menu of this pub had no specials and very limited choice. Sadly menu same as another pub in this small chain. Our friends went to the other pub in chain and said menu identical. Shan’t be going back in a hurry.

I’m sorry Carpenters Arms, but you are nowhere near being “the best pub in North Yorkshire” based upon our first and last experience with you.

Our food was bland and pretty basic for the price and by no means outstanding or memorable, however the atmosphere was cold, uninviting and the staff seemed generally uninterested, untrained and unhappy. Why do you put candles on tables and not light them?

The table service was quite frankly “the poorest in North Yorkshire” that we have ever experienced. If having to constantly remind the staff that we were waiting to order our food and receive our drinks etc wasn’t bad enough, having to witness 2 members of the waiting staff having an argument whilst we were waiting for our table to be cleared really was unacceptable.

We won’t be coming back.

I was lured off the main road by a sign promising the "best pub in North Yorkshire" and a "warm welcome". After a significant drive into the hinterland, I found a large empty pub with a large empty car park. I dined & lunched at several pubs in North Yorkshire during my stay & by a huge margin this was the least warm welcome & since every single other one was better, they certainly cannot claim to be the best in the county. The truculent member of staff I had to deal with was positively hostile to serving me: firstly claiming that they were "fully booked" (there were no customers) and then when that didn't hold water that she "couldn't serve me as they didn't start serving until 12". It was literally 11.59....... you really couldn't make it up. Had I had any alternatives, I might have gone with the "not welcome here" message but I rose to the challenge. Poor quality, overpriced & unfriendly, this place exhibited all the worst aspects of places aspiring to be gastro pubs. I'm sure there must be far superior places near by. Don't be lured by the signage.

We booked here for an evening meal, when we arrived we had to walk round in the dark in the pouring rain as the front door was completely dark, I don’t know if the lights where off or simply didn’t work.
Once inside we where greeted by a lady at the back of the bar who looked at us like we shouldn’t have been there, even though I had booked.
She couldn’t be bothered to smile or even say hello.
The meal was ok, but we where there over two hours and only offered a drink once, we had to track down the waiter to ask for another.
Sorry but if you are charging high end prices you need to give high end service.

Usually an excellent place to eat but last night's visit for my husband's birthday was a total disaster. Forgotten drinks, food, 1 hour wait even though first in. Other later tables served first. When husband said "Excuse me" for to order a drink he was greeted by an abrupt "What" not acceptable customer service. Two regulars here won't be going back in a hurry!!

Called in after a thrilling morning at the Yorkshire outdoor centre.
As it was a sunny day we sat outside and enjoyed the views. Service was very friendly and professional. Food was outstanding. Most difficult thing was to choose which of the lovely sounding meals to choose.
Fish and chips and meat pie were delicious and the sticky toffee pudding was sublime .. cannot wait to go back .. just a shame that we live so far away ..

Dinner, bed and breakfast here as a little treat after a dark and rainy February. Worked a treat! Warm and welcoming bar in a lovely setting. Lovely dinner. Luxurious rooms - very comfortable and spacious. Glad we went … It’ll keep us going until Spring arrives.
