I have recently returned from six nights at the River House Lodge and it was great. A wonderful stay starts with hosts and managers William and Lollette. Friendly, helpful and interested in making your stay a comfortable one. And I really enjoyed Lollette's cooking. The rooms were comfortable and afforded a great nights sleep. Wi Fi is available in the main lodge. The property is close enough to Hopkins if you want a trip to town and to the Southern Highway if venturing further is your goal. Either way it is nice to return to River House Lodge to relax and enjoy the river and grounds. I definitely look forward to a return visit.
There was six of us looking for economical accommodations in the area. Contacted Lolette who manages the lodge with her husband William, and was so glad I did ! Both were such gracious hosts. She was wonderful to communicate while planning the trip, always responding to questions promptly and with good information. She set up a bioluminescence boat tour, which was amazing ! Such a beautiful piece of property, the cabins are super clean, as is the main house and pool. It was wonderful to cool off in a sparkling pool with an awesome view. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic! Home made Johnny cakes (we call them tea biscuits!) delicious eggs and sausage with pepper and onions, fresh juice and hot coffee. Delicious! We will be back !
I stayed at the Lodge for 1 night in the off-season. Beautiful setting, great room in which everything worked, the staff was wonderful, and I was the only person at the Lodge that night. Very private. Very quiet.
This was my second time visiting Riverhouse Lodge, beautiful place to stay, lots of tours, hiking, fishing, and amazing food, friendly and very accommodating staff, cozy and comfortable rooms, because de it is along the river and jungle you need to have bug spray, I will go back for another adventure for sure Thank you Riverhouse Lodge
This is a charming rustic lodge with fantastic hosts! Lolette and William are sweet, wonderful and accommodating hosts. Breakfast is delicious local food cooked with love by Lolette. The rooms are clean and comfortable and in decent shape. There are no buildings falling down or anything like I’ve seen in previous posts. The pool is refreshing and the river and vegetation is beautiful. I would definitely return. I would recommended this place to a budget conscious traveller. Great value for your money!
I can't say enough good about the River House. Right on the bank of the beautiful Sittee River, this is a perfect place to really get into the nature and beauty of Belize, as the grounds are loaded with various tropical birds and other critters to be easily spotted. The rooms were quaint, very clean and functional. We were happy to call it 'home' for 2 weeks. William and Lolette were always on site and more than happy to assist with all our needs. They arranged outings suited to our interests and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Lolette is an amazing cook as well and they offer to provide meals for an extra charge. Reading other reviews here makes me think that some people went into this with heightened expectations, which is unfortunate. Remember these are rooms off a river bank in the jungle. If you're looking for a 5 star Hilton, this may not be for you. But if you're looking for a simple stay with warm, welcoming and helpful people, stop by the River House and experience what Belize has to offer. Yes, there are a lot of bugs, no fault to the River House itself. It's Belize, do some homework prior to and bring bug spray. The rooms and main building have fully screened verandas to aid with the bugs. …
Unless you like sleeping in abandoned houses this isn't worth going to. I booked it, then went to check in, waited for 10 minutes till someone who said he was security. He said the boss was out and tried to call him but nobody was to be found. I asked how many people stayed here and he said there hadn't been anyone in weeks. We waited around for 45 minutes, looked like the whole place had had no maintenance for months. Eventually decided nobody was coming and left.
What a strange place in the middle of nowhere! As resorts on hopkins beach were fully booked we had to choose somewhere close by instead.. But.. We were the only guests in what seemed a scene from Texas chainsaw.. It was desolate and eery. The rooms were clean, but the bathroom was terrible - plastic fittings and the 'shower' was a mere dribble and I was unable to wash my hair for the whole stay.. Hence booking into a luxury resort on the beach once we found availability (and only for $50 more!!) The curtains in the room are pointless - they let light through, so we had to hang towels and clothes from the window to block out the early morning sunlight. Food is not included and there is not a restaurant, nor one in walking distance. The couple that manage the place will cook for you - and the food it good - but there isn't a menu choice. The manager will offer to take you places in his van, but the tours aren't that well known about and you will have to do a lot of the research of things to do yourself. A big con - we were not told about all the 'add ons' to the price - there was no mention that being driven places would cost, nor were we told the cost of food or items from the bar so the payment came as a bit of a shock - I suggest that this is explained to visitors on arrival. I end on a positive, however, the manager William is lovely, he is so friendly and very willing to help and arrange his day around what you want to do. Him and his lovely wife, Lolette, are the only thing this place has going for it. We would have left early if it wasn't for them - so thank you. The place definitely needs tweaking to make more welcoming and warm. And the 'Open' sign on the front door needs removing... A strange place to say the least.…
My husband and I were booked into the River House Lodge for one week and couldn't take the first night. The shower was plugged so my husband had to stand ankle deep in dirty water. I opened the drawer of the dresser and three drawers came out at the same time and the whole thing fell apart leaving no where to put our clothes. We checked out. The manager Kara did everything she could to try to convince us to stay but it was apparent to us the absent owners of the property did not want to be bothered with ongoing maintenance. Check out Hopkins right on the beach and half the price with showers not plugged and a place to hang your hat!
12 of us who live in Belize (Ambergris Caye) stayed the night at the River House Lodge before and after our week-long stay at the Glover's Atoll offshore Belize. The staff was very friendly and accommodating -- providing excellent dinners and breakfasts, transport to and from the nearby boat dock where the Glover's boat was moored, and information about the area. The rooms were comfortable and roomy and the screened in swimming pool was a welcome feature. We would definitely recommend this lodging.
