#2 of 3 Speciality lodging in Uig
Otter Bunkhouse offers alternative accommodation in the popular area of Uig, on the Isle of Lewis. The bunkhouse is ideally situated, directly on the shores of West Loch Roag, in the village of Carishader. It provides a comfortable and cosy retreat for walkers, cyclists and anyone wishing to explore the stunning scenery and wildlife of the Isle of Lewis. As well as two resident otters, who can be spotted directly from the bunkhouse, there is an abundance of wildlife to be seen on West Loch Roag, including seals, gannets, red throated divers, terns, golden eagles, sea eagles, and the occasional dolphin. Otter Bunkhouse was built in 2014 and offers a cosy hideaway with modern facilities. There is one bedroom with 8 beds, a toilet and shower room, and a separate lounge area with kichenette facilities. The beds have comfortable mattresses, and are in a bunkbed layout, each with an individual light. There is an outside decking area, with stunning views over West Loch Roag. There is also private, direct access to West Loch Roag for kayakers. Bedding is included in the price, and towels can be provided on request. Ample car parking space is available on site. Beds are available at a cost of £20.00 per person per night. Otter Bunkhouse is open all year round. We welcome independent travellers, and also accept bookings for sole use of the bunkhouse depending on availability.

Stayed 2 nights in the Otter Bothy and it was perfect for 2 👌 The sunrises were amazing. The otters never made an appearance but that said we saw a seal and a heron. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

To understand a review I think you need to understand the person, My wife and I had decided to mix business with pleasure and take our children to the island with our children, I normally stay in 5 star hotels and have travelled the world (this really should give you an idea of how picky I am!). I would never have booked a place like the otter bunkhouse and had completely miss timed our journey and was left with no choice. A 14 drive and ferry journey was peppered with thoughts of what we would be greeted with and the apprehension and uncertainty with five young children was draining at times. We had brought everything we needed ‘just in case’. As my children and I stepped in the bunkhouse we were greeted with a large room and comfy seating. The bookshelves and binoculars were smothered in children and within minutes we were sat around reading and relaxing, my children instantly took to the bunkhouse and even today they miss it terribly. All credit has to be given to Donald and Michele as they have created a warm welcoming place with maps, activities and well-placed leaflets. Donald and Michele are great ambassadors for the island and the community and the next time we come to the Island we shall only stay at the Otter Bunkhouse.

Last weekend I took a group of my students for a trip to the outer isles. We had 2 workshops planned in stornoway and a plan to video tai chi at the stones, particularly Callanish 1. We did all of the above. But it was the evenings that crowned the weekend. We had music in the sitting area and informal practice in the kitchen. It was like being at home with friends. It was one of the best weekends I’ve spent anywhere and being able to be together in the one place as we were was just fantastic. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Sleeps 8 in the dorm room. Comfy beds an excellent shower and 2 toilets. Well equipped kitchen. If I had planned this as a bonding exercise it would have a total success. And the setting and scenery....

We stayed two nights in the Otter Bothy. We had lovely views over the loch and my husband actually saw an otter! I'll have to go back to catch a glimpse. It is a great choice of accommodation for those seeking a quiet stay and are happy to cook their own meals and enjoy the wonderful scenery and walks in the area. I enjoyed spending the evenings sitting outside viewing the loch hoping to spot an otter with with a glass of wine. I want to go back now just thinking about it!

Otterburn Bunkhouse is a must-stay location. Beautiful setting, well equipped and Duncan is the coolest guy on the Islands. 3 nights and it was too short ! A good amount to see around the area and the drive there really gives you the feeling of isolation, even though its still close to the likes of Callanish and Carloway Broch. Do it !
