Where to start...... let's start at the beginning. Upon entering the campground, we were greeted by the owners which were very happy and helpful. We quickly noticed that this new campground layout was very well done. The roads had been given a great amount of thought so even very large campers would have enough room to get around. The owners did not try to jam a bunch of campsites in the campground. The sites were spacious and well thought out. The map lists the different types of campsites. The RV sites are correctly classified, and the tent sites were very well done. The tent sites were mostly gravel however, there was a level pad of soil specifically built for that tent to rest on. The campground has multiple restroom sites. The showers and bathrooms have their own individual rooms, so you have more privacy. Also, some of the bathrooms were built to look like lighthouses of the area. The overall campground was aesthetically pleasing. Furthermore, the campground has access to a beautiful beach by following an existing trail. Approximately halfway down the trail we remembered that we forgot to bring chairs and sand toys. Shortly thereafter, we found a very colorful storage area, which had multiple types of chairs and sand toys for customers to use. Also, as we approached the beach, we noticed there was a deck with Adirondack chairs overlooking the beach. A great deal of thought was put into the development and management of the campground. It was an excellent experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

We stayed at Avoca Birches this past weekend. June 30- July 3. It is a truly beautiful place. We live on the Island, and this is our favorite camping spot now! We can get there in about an hour from Sydney towing our trailer. Not having to go over any large mountains is definitely a plus! If you are coming from the West, there are no mountains! Just drive around St Ann's and you are almost there. Within 20 minutes of Avoca Birches, you can ride the Gondola on Smokey. You can visit some world class beaches or golf courses. There are so many local shops and restaurants too!

The campground is beautiful. There is a beach that's about a 5 minute walk through the tree lined path with stairs to get down to the water. You can also just sit and relax on the deck with a beverage and enjoy watching the ocean. There are so many sea birds and wild life.

This is a quiet, relaxing campground. There are 30amp hookup sites and there are off grid sites that are all private. The sites are very large and can handle some pretty large RV's. Many large trees separate the sites.

We really, truly enjoy being here. There is so much to do in the area and it is a perfect location to get to most parts of the Cabot Trail for hikes or to go to the beaches.

If you are looking for a good location to camp and be fairly close to get to most activities on this side of the Cabot Trail, this is the perfect spot! No towing your trailer over the mountain! Set up and go from Avoca Birches.

The bathrooms are clean and private pods, so no issues with privacy or trying to shower with people coming and going.

Avova Birches is an amazing place to stay. Give it a try! You won't be sorry.

We have been through 5 provinces and never found a campground with this much attention to detail! The lots are by far the biggest we have seen and you can easily back in to any site no problem!!! The cleanliness to the details wether it be chairs by the ocean or stream, lights in trees, larger than usual picnic tables or the absolute friendliness of the staff (Thanks for the great chat) you can not beat this campground!!! Thanks for the wonderful stay. We will be back!!!

This is not a KOA. Which was perfect for us because we came to the east coast to experience the natural beauty of the land, sea & people. Sam & Nancy have embodied that here with a wonderfully designed campground maintaining natural elements while having very large, usable campsites, custom firepit enclosures, unique central lighthouse pit toilet, immaculately keep, clean modern washrooms and showers. At end of a short walk to the river or shoreline you are greeted with spectacular views. The wide trail to shore leads to a seaside deck and comfortable chairs to relax and breath in the sea air, listen to sea-land sounds and the ocean view, well, you have to be there.

We travelled from Ontario and stayed at several sites as we visited the east coast and this campground was by far our favorite place to stay. The owners are wonderful and will greet you as you enter the campground which boasts large, level sites with a picnic table and fire pit. It was easy to pull in and park our large 30ft trailer. There is a beautiful beach for swimming as well as a nice deck with chairs to just sit and watch the sun rise/set. The portable washroom/showers are kept clean and look like your washroom at home! I didn’t bother to use our trailer washroom because these were so nice. The campground is at the start of the Cabot trail on the east side and has several local artisan shops within minutes. We loved our visit and cannot wait to return and stay longer next time.

Campground itself is beautiful and immaculate. Only 5 full serviced lots and the remainder unserviced. Lots are huge and level, beautiful firepits on every site. However I feel this campground caters to tourists as a nice spot to stay overnight while travelling and would be very nice for that. We went with a group of families and the campground is not kid friendly, there are no playgrounds or play area for children and we were even told they are allowed to play outside on the lot we paid for, not welcomed to play in the wooded areas or roam the property. We did not feel welcome and wont be returning. The kids were shut down from playing outside before quiet time. Two nights for an rv lot cost $145, which is the most we have paid.

I feel bad giving Avoca such a low rating but we did not realize this campground/RV park was still under development when we booked our stay.
If you have a fully equipped RV, you will be fine but if you are tenting or your trailer lacks bathroom facilities (like ours), the lack of amenities available will take the shine off the beautiful landscaping.
At $72 a night, walking several minutes to a port-a-potty with no running water

We stayed for the July 1 long weekend. It was so quiet! The best bathroom facilities I've experienced at a campground, clean and private. The birches on the path to the beach are beautiful - take your camera because you'll want pictures of them. The serviced sites are big but not very private. Would like to see the owners add electric and water service to some of the wooded lots. You will want to bring everything you need (food) before you arrive - there isn't anything close by for shopping. We would stay there again.

So we just finished our last camping trip of the season to Avoca Birches and it was just as good as the first time we camped here. Sites are big, level, and well spaced. We have made 8 trips here since we found this campsite last year, and Sam and Nancy always make us feel as welcome as the first time. There is a nice stroll down to an amazing beach the stretches close to a km from little river to little river harbour that is a must walk. There location is perfect to drop your trailer and hit the Cabot Trail and return for great night around the amazing fire pits. Also should mention that you’re only 40 minutes from ingonish or Baddeck, about 1 hr to Sydney , and about 1.5 hrs to Louisbourg. We absolutely love Avoca Birches and will be returning next year

We had a midnight crossing coming off the ferry from Newfoundland and really appreciated Avoca allowing us in early to park our trailer. It is a perfect place to set up camp for a few days to explore the Cabot trail and the hills are not too big from Baddeck to where they are. We did not want to drive our trailer around on the trail, so we just drove our truck counter clockwise to Cheticamp and instead of going all the way around we went back the way we came. The whole area is beautiful but I think the best views are from Cheticamp to Ingonish so it was nice to drive it there and back and enjoy the views twice. Avoca Campground is a quiet, clean, and spacious. Highly recommend it!
