Myself with my family stayed Kooteny Lakeview Resort for July 1 to 3, 2021. I booked this hotel by reading description from Best Western web site. It is situated on hill at Balfour near Balfour Golf Course. From every room nice view of Kooteny Lake and surrounding is available. Since, this hotel is situated on a hilland surrounded by forest, one can enjoy nature very much.
Room rate was CAD 303 per night which look like high to me, But, they told that if any one call them directly, discounted rate will be offered.
We arrived there at about 7PM at that time no one in front desk, after waiting for some time we call the phone number provided during booking and after some time one person arrived and check us in. But, he could not provide the room of our choice i.e. at upper floor which we mentioned during booking, on the plea that no such room was available.
However, the room of ground level was also nice, fantastic view of Kooteny Lake and surrounding was available from the room. Room decoration and cleanliness was also very good, but room size was standard and similar to ordinary Best Western.
Due to plea of Covid19, they stopped provide hot breakfast in spite of that they provided packet breakfast and it can be collected at any time. One apple, one granola bar, one small muffin and a juice packer were provided in the packet. In my opinion quantity of breakfast is very less. I found many other hotels provide better packet breakfast. They also not provided room cleaning service during the stay due to Covid19. Though behaviour of staffs were very good and helpful.
Overall we enjoyed our stays very much. If we plan to stay near Kooteny Lake, we will prefer this hotel in future also due to its location as well as overall quality of the hotel.

While primarily a golf resort, Kootenay Lakeview is open year round. The staff is absolutely amazing and the location is so charming with fantastic views of the mountains and lake. Only 10 mins from Ainsworth Hot Springs, 20 mins from Nelson, and 5 mins from the ferry, we had everything we needed.
Be sure to plan your meals accordingly though as many restaurants nearby close in the winter. We had no problems finding restuarants in nearby Nelson.

Our one night stay was peaceful, relaxing and quiet. The view off the balcony was spectacular. The hotel grounds are well maintained and a pleasure to wander around. The complementary breakfast was basic but still good and in a more pleasant environment than you will find in most hotels (diverse seatings, windows all around, board games, etc).
We will definitely return.

This hotel is perched on the hill with a beautiful view of the Lake that you can enjoy from the big window inside the room, or sit on your private patio. The grounds are well kept and there are some activities to play on the lawns. The only thing missing was wildlife walking through while we were there. We did not use the BBQs, but did notice the nice clean BBQ area. The Lobby/Breakfast area is beautiful (more like a lodge) with comfortable leather furnishings and the beautiful lake view. There are board games to play on rainy days. There is a beautiful wood burning stove that wasn't going while we were there, but I can imagine how cozy it makes the Lobby. The continental breakfast has enough goodies to fill you up. There is a microwave and toaster available and they have fresh orange juice and hot coffee/tea with real milk/cream. The staff are very friendly, polite and accommodating. They made me feel welcome and appreciated. This hotel is close to the ferry terminal and only 15 minutes from Ainsworth. I would stay here again.

You are right about the wood stove, we don't run it with the heat we get in the summer but it is quite cozy when it is running. Nice location but most year this seems as an unstaffed location. If you run into a problem past 7pm you will be connected to another remote location with just “yes or no”type of answers. These locations seem to be only staffed by warm bodies with strong accents. Most answers are “I’m sorry”.. and the calls end in “have a good one”.. Good luck if you end up needing security at night. For safety reasons unless you are here with a group/family I would not recommend single occupants staying here.

One of the worst stays ever.
The only thing that is accurate on their website is the view. We arrived on July 1 and there is no one at reception. We had to pick up our key at the lockbox that is located outside the office.
The room #305 had a very strong musty smell to it like it hadn’t been aired out in ages. The room was substantially smaller than a regular hotel room that we had the previous evening.
There is no phone in the room
There is no area in which you could comfortably hook up a computer. We ended up moving things around and hooking up the computer on the very small desk where the coffee maker was.
There is no ice. We were given instructions to use the freezer on the second level but the freezer was open and completely empty.
No complimentary golf. We wouldn’t know where to go anyway since there were no staff available.
The bed is so close to the wall – maybe about 1 ft. from the bed to the wall so that when I needed to go to the washroom at night I had to crawl to the end of the bed in order to get out of bed.
We expected that many of the item and services would not be available because of covid – no spa, no breakfast buffet etc. but we did not expect to have a rundown room that obviously needs attention and renovations.
We paid the less to stay at another resort during our staycation and we had a beautiful 1 bedroom suite with a separate bedroom, tvs in both the living room and bedroom, a kitchenette and washer and dryer. We could get ice from the refrigerator that was in the room. They also had a lobby area that was staffed and friendly service from said staff. We had a mountain view.
I absolutely would not recommend this resort and I certainly would never stay here again myself.

We had a wonderful weekend getaway at the Kootenay Lakeview Resort. The rooms are much larger then your average hotel room. Each room has a beautiful view of the lake and we highly recommend enjoying a morning coffee on the deck. The public beach and shops with all the essentials are close by. We really enjoyed the outdoor kitchen and exploring the grounds. The staff is very friendly and we were very impressed by how clean and well maintained the resort is. So close to Nelson and would be a great spot for a wedding or conference.

Super clean rooms, friendly staff, relaxed vibe and close to everything while being a bit private. Great view of the lake too!
My husband and I enjoyed the Kaslo River Trail and Fletcher Falls during the day and loved coming back to our air conditioned room and ordering some delicious food from the golf course a short drive away. We were able to keep a stock of food in the room fridge as well so we did not need to eat out for every meal. We really enjoyed our time.

There is no lack of effort on maintaining this resort. This resort is on the golf course and the greens are pristine and the view is breathtaking. Comfy beds and spacious patios. Even through covid, the hot tub was able to be enjoyed and they provided a bagged breakfasts that was above what we expected. Several places to eat and convenient /liquor store just minutes away. Free putting greens, beautiful clean bbq area with gazebo for dinning with family. You couldn’t ask for anything more from

My fiancée and I had grand plans to get married in May of 2020 at this lovely property in Balfour. We settled on this location because they offer a nice balance between being able to host a relatively large gathering (160 people for us) while also being private and with beautiful views of Kootenay Lake. Brandon (Director of Guest Services) was very helpful from the first stages of our planning process and combined with the knowledgeable and expertise of on-site manager Reg we were primed for a wedding to remember, especially as the event was going to be the first impression of a lot of folks who had never been to the area.
Of course, as we all know now, COVID hit and we were forced to change our plans. First, we decided to chance it out and postponed our even by exactly 1 year, and the folks at KLR were more than happy to accommodate. They honoured the agreements we had already made and so we decided to wait it out and see what spring of 2021 would look like. Fast forward to December and with COVID coming back for a 2nd wave, my fiancée and I decided that we could no longer in good conscience host a big wedding event and came to difficult decision that we needed to cancel outright.
After some quick discussions with Brandon, he was very helpful and agreed to a full refund of our deposit even though we had signed a contract and were likely not entitled to a full refund. The folks at KLR took what could have had the potential of ruining what is supposed to be a special event and made a gesture of goodwill instead of being rigid in these tough times.
My family and I are all quite appreciative of this and if we do end up having some sort of event or party post-pandemic in Nelson we will gladly have it at KLR. Thank you!
Combine this A+ level of guest service with a beautiful venue site and KLR is definitely a fine place to hold your special events!
