A building like seen in a movie, looks terrific! Upon a slope with a view to Sao Jorge across the Atlantic, couldnt be better and is kept clean very well. Breakfast is alright and part of the crew is very nice and speaks English fantastically. The beds on the other hand are uncomfortable. The springs made it hard for me...

This hostel is a pearl because it lets you feel the atmosphere of the past but now. All the staff is friendly and helpful. The hostel is situated close to couple of beaches and the port. You can live in a quiet place and enjoy the rest. The kitchen is cosy, the yard is better than you can expect.

Yes, the building is fantastic. Walking around in this old monastry gives you a feeling of what it must have been like many many years ago. But at the same time, this hostel can give you the feeling that the organisation is kinda stuck somewhere in the middle between the old and the new times. Staying here is slow, a...

Such a fantastic building. I think they did a good job keeping many original elements of the original Catholic convent. The central cloister is very beautiful. Lots of areas to walk around or sit down; lounges are nicely furnished. This unusual building means you will have trouble finding the dining room or the stairs to your room, but you will...

This hostel is perfectly located for the boat arriving in sa roque. The hostel is just a bit above the main street. And, well, the building is incredible. It is an old convent that was restored. There is quite a parking spot too. The staf was super friendly. They are spontaneous and help whenever possible. I slept on a six...

We had only booked one night in a room with a private bathroom at this hostel, intending to camp on Mount Pico. However, rain and wind changed our plans and we ended up returning to the hostel to ask for any available room. Luckily, they were able to accommodate us with a private room without a bathroom. Since the communal...

This is one of the best youth hostels I have stayed in. The building itself is very atmospheric, and the facilities modern and comfortable. Steve, Mariajose and Paula (the main 3 people staffing the hostel) are brilliant and provide excellent customer service (customer service is not usually Portuguese hotels' strong point). Cannot recommend more.

Arrived for a 5 night stay but was told that the ferry schedule had changed so had to leave the next day! Female member of staff contacted my next hostel to arrange an earlier arrival for me. Hostel was clean and very quiet due to late in the season. Basic breakfast but fully equipped kitchen. Rooms noisy as no insulation...

I had a good experience at the Sao Roque hostel, although it felt like a mix between a hostel and a hotel. Where it lacked the open, quirkiness of a hostel, it made up with historical surroundings and a friendly, open staff. There were some complaints about the restrooms, which I admit had a bit of a smell due to...

A magnificent location/building but with serious maintenance problems. The bathrooms smell bad. Has no private place, you leave the shower directly into the common area of the toilet. The showers have peeling paint and take pieces of paint through whole body. The next day I traded for a double room, where the bathroom also smelled bad (even so much better)....
