After spending the morning and afternoon at Taylor's Head Beach just down the road, our group of six women arrived at the charming Marmalade Motel in Port Dufferin. I had stayed at this location many years ago, when it was under different owners and it was pretty amazing to come back and see the transformation! Each of the nine rooms is now full of comfortable furniture and modern finishings, and the new owners seem to have thought of everything they possibly could to make it an enjoyable stay for their visitors. We were able to order a charcuterie board in advance, which was perfect for sharing outside in the backyard. This was waiting for us in the fridge as soon as we checked in. Easy-peasy!

This has always been a beautiful piece of property, which features a wonderful ocean view, but even that seems to be more highlighted now, with the addition of a fire pit and barbecue area with Adirondack chairs and picnic tables. There were also lawn games set up, but us usually-busy moms were more than content to sit with our wine and charcuterie and play catch up. We barbecued a few of our own items for dinner and saw another group of guests do the same. There was an event tent set up on a wooden platform while we were there and a movie was being shown once it got dark. We left the group of guests and locals to the movie (we had already seen it!) and retired to the hot tub. It's small (4 person), but it does the trick! It made for the perfect ending to an already relaxing evening.

The beds were extremely comfortable and the area is SO quiet at night. Breakfast was delivered to our room at 8 AM the next morning (although you could request later if you wanted). It was such a treat to enjoy it in bed!

We briefly met the owners when we handed in our keys. They seem so relaxed and friendly, and it's evident that they have put a lot of love into this property. I will be recommending this one highly to all of my family and friends who are looking for a quick little getaway on the Eastern Shore!

Stayed for 2 nights in the Pink Flamingo room with my Mom (81 years young). The room was immaculately spotless with very comfy beds, well appointed for everything we needed & decorated with whimsical flamingos & calm soothing colors. Our private balcony provided us with a peaceful respite to enjoy the sounds of ocean waves lapping on the shore, birds chirping, loons & seagulls off in the distance & amazing unobstructed ocean views which were very much enjoyed both with & without the graceful rolling fog banks. Our hosts went above & beyond our expectations to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

We had the lovely Blue Octopus room for one torrential rainy night in March. Cute and welcoming space with comfortable bed. I see all the potential for outdoor fun on a better weather day but hey, it's Nova Scotia! My husband and I took advantage of a winter special which included a fun (and delicious) craft beer Brewer's Dinner experience...so well worth it, and you'll have a shuttle included for the ride into Sober Island Brewery in Sheet Harbour. Will return in summer or fall as this is a funky, clean, old style (but "bo ho vibe) motel!

My husband and I stayed here overnight in mid September. There are 9 rooms side by side and each has its own balcony off the back that looks toward the water. We were in the Boho room; calm colors with nice wall hanging. It had a flat screen on the wall with satellite tv, free wifi and internet, a coffee machine, wine bottle corkscrew and mini fridge. The bathroom was lovely, white marble and very pretty (tub/shower combo). Window coverings were stylish, though white (light color) that let all the light in. Rooms were quiet. In the back grassy area, there were adirondack chairs, a small fire pit, washer toss game and outdoor pizza oven (that was not operating while we were there). It was a nice stay, but be prepared that there is not much within about 40 km to do, especially if off season --- even the restaurant and pub were closed when we were there; nothing is close.

I am not usually one to book a motel, but I saw a YouTube video about the Marmalade motel and was not disappointed.
Check in was super easy with a code sent through on the morning of check in for the lock box by the door.
Once inside, the room was lovely and bright with a king size bed, coffee machine, fridge and a seating area. The bathroom was a good size and very nicely decorated. The best feature of all the rooms at the Marmalade has to be the amazing view over the water, which can be taken in whilst sitting on the balcony.
We also had the breakfast which is delivered to your room and was really delicious, and very good value.
I would have no reservations in returning to the Marmalade motel on my next visit to Nova Scotia.

My wife and I just spent a lovely evening here in early October. The room was clean and comfortable and the grounds were well maintained. The property has a host of amenities including a fire pit and an outdoor pizza oven. The nicest perhaps is the dock which comes with lounge chairs for watching the sunset.

We took advantage of their “craft beer and culinary experience for two” package and we were not disappointed. They even made the dinner reservation for us. We also ordered the breakfast which was delivered to our room. The price was very reasonable and the breakfast was amazing. We spent a great afternoon exploring the beautiful beach at Taylor Head Provincial Park. A great location for a romantic walk or fall hike.

The owners were charming and helpful and we couldn’t have been happier with our decision to book this delightful gem on the eastern shore.

We had an an excellent stay - the rooms are beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean; the location is stunning. The breakfast was delicious and easy to add to our booking via the guest portal. The portal was very easy to use and helpful with information about the local area as well as check-in and room information. Thanks Neil and Cheryl!

We loved our 'Flamingo Room'. Lovely view of the bay with a deck to sit out on. Unfortunately our weather did not co-operate for us to take advantage of this. Very, very clean and comfortable. Beds were great! Enjoyed the extra breakfast delivered to our door! Everything was delicious and we certainly did not go hungry. Fresh fruit, yogurt, baked goods, cheese and, of course, piping hot coffee! Wonderful. My only complaint would be the curtains were not black out so the room was very bright in the morning. Some people would have no problem with this, of course. Overall, wonderful stay and would recommend!!

We stayed in the beautifully appointed Under the Sun room for one night. You simply can't beat the picturesque location of this unique motel. It has all the conveniences you could want plus tons of charm. And, most importantly, it was spotlessly clean. One of the best parts of our stay was the boxes we ordered for our meals. We thoroughly enjoyed the charcuterie box which had a lovely arrangement and selection of meats, cheeses, breads, crackers and other treats. And we also loved the sweet box which had a delicious assortment of sweet treats. Our breakfast tray was more than enough for the two of us and gave us lots of energy for a day of exploring the Eastern Shore. Thank you to the owners and staff for hosting our couples getaway.

Yes, the Octopus room is even cuter than it looks! (in case you were wondering) This is truly a sweet place, comfy bed, incredible view, easy check in, nice deck, beautiful grounds and all around excellent experience. Octopus room #9 is on the very end of the hotel, closest to the hot tub. No AC in the room, but breezy and they will supply a fan (very quickly) upon request. The little decks are perfect, lots of hot water for showers and the rooms impeccably clean. There is a barbeque, fire pit, wood burning pizza oven but their 'order ahead' food items are dreamy: charcuterie, picnic lunches and breakfast in bed items. We had the breakfast which was perfect and delicious. I cannot recommend this place more : )
