Nowhere can beat the Castle Hotel for Sunday roasts...a bit more pricy but worth every penny in freshness. Terrific variety of vegetables. Dogs made very welcome. Really great attempt to make outside delightful on a windy day.

My husband and visited the Castle Hotel for a nights getaway to break the monotony of the lockdown. It is a very popular hotel and we enjoyed a good lunch in the lovely bar area. After lunch we checked into Room number 1! I opened the door and found to my dismay a step at the threshold of the door which I immediately fell down and badly sprained my ankle. After my accident I did find a notice on the door but did not see it when I was fumbling with the key Might I suggest a verbal warning from the receptionist at the time of booking in. I am writing this so other people do not have the same experience I had. Beware of Room 1. The management were not in the least bit interested in my dilemma I didn't even receive an apology. So for me a much awaited break turned into a disaster! .

Thank you for your review. It was certainly unfortunate that you sprained your ankle whilst staying with us. I spoke to you on multiple occasions myself and specifically apologized on a number of occasions. And I am happy to say again I am sorry your stumble quite understandably spoilt your stay with us. At the point of your injury a member of staff immediately brought you an ice pack and stool, and you were checked on multiple time’s throughout that evening regarding the injury. As you mentioned in your review there is a sign on the door to your bedroom that warns of the small step down from the corridor to the bedroom level itself. This change of levels is a feature of many historic buildings of over 300 years old. You even mentioned to me in one of our conversations you found it hard to see as your mask was riding up over your nose and eyes. This pandemic has thrown up all sorts of unexpected problems, can I suggest that if you are ever moving through an unknown historic building with a mask on that you take extra care on your surrounding and look out for any signage that has been put up in place to specifically warn about these potential hazards.

Location in Bishops Castle is excellent. Easy parking. Short walk to all village amenities. Very dog friendly. First stay here. My best recommendation is that we have just booked again to return. If you have a dog, this hotel is perfect. Our Cocker Spaniel got his own welcome box in the bedroom. Beautiful food. Breakfast (full English) was of an extremely high quality with choice for both vegitarians and vegans. We had a beautiful dinner last night, everything locally sourced, beautifully prepared and the service was absolutely first class. I highly recommend that you visit this part of Shropshire and I highly recommend you use this hotel. See you there!

Really looking forward to this little break. Arrived at the hotel and asked if they had a menu for the evening meal as we were on a half-board basis. They answered they hadn't but gave us a copy of the lunch menu to give us some idea. When we arrived for dinner, the menu was exactly the same as the lunch menu. There was very little on offer that we fancied in fact there was only one meat dish and that was a burger! I opted for the salmon starter and also salmon for my main course. They were both rather tasteless. Wines and beers were first class however so it was a bit strange. The following day we went down for dinner and noted that the menu, once again, was very similar to the previous evening with the exception that you could have a turkey dinner which we both chose. The turkey was okay and there was plenty of it. Breakfasts were good the only thing wrong was that on the first morning the fire wasn't lit and it felt rather cold as we had been given a table next to the door. The room we were given was nice and old fashioned - it was a good size and there was plenty of hot water. Staff were all very pleasant but food was our main grumble in fact the soup was the same two nights running and I got the feeling some of the food had been reheated from the previous day.

Thank you for your review, I am sorry you found the menu a little limiting on your stay. We had very recently re-opened up from the imposed November lockdown and our suppliers were themselves struggling to deliver all our usual produce. It is obviously a very tricky time, not just for ourselves as a functioning hotel/bar/restaurant but also for all our supply chains to be get up and running to full capacity takes a certain amount of time. Hopefully if you choose to visit us again in less disruptive times you will find a more varied menu.
