Karanambu Lodge is off the beaten track. I traveled independently. The Georgetown office booked me pick up at Ginep Landing and 3 nights accomodation on the trust that I'd pay them when I got back to Georgetown. You don't see that in too many places anymore. The cabin was quite spacious and airy. If you've never slept under thatch you...

A strange place indeed. The wildlife was the best in Guyana, the guides knowledgeable, the nighttime drifts with Rum punch under the stars were magic. The rooms large and airy. The food good and the staff polite... so it should have been 5* but the whole place had a strange detached feel about it. It was as if the heart...

My daughter and I had booked two nights here, but a Liat flight delay cost us our first night, so we missed out on the lily pond and never got to see a potoo or jabaru, On our arrival from Lethem I was delighted to be met by none other than Diane McTurk herself. This refined lady, now in her...

Of the Eco-lodges we visited in southern Guyana, this was the best. The range and density of wildlife were the best, with the resort's location amid river, forest and savannah helping. The rooms are modestly, but comfortably, furnished. No hot water. No WiFi, but you can use their computer for email -- slow dial-up speed. Food is good, and you...

I stayed for 2 nights as part of a longer tour of the Rupunini, arriving after a long, hot day on the river, but pleasantly revived with a cold beer, and really enjoyed my stay. My room had a large, ensuite bathroom and huge, comfortable bed. Bottled water is provided alongside the the - rather essential - insect repellent. Yes,...

I spent two nights here as part of tour with Wilderness Explorers. All local tours and meals were included. We arrived by boat but there is also a commercial airstrip close by for the area. The owner Diane McTurk had been sick and was still away in Georgetown so we did not get to meet her. However, the Mangers, Andrea...

We are so sorry the bats disturbed you. Four of the guest cabins do have traditional thatch roofs. The compound is surrounded by Mango trees, and yes there are fruit eating bats who live in the thatch. Our staff clean the cabins s in the morning when they are making up the room and again at night when they are...

Stayed 2 nights in August, the end of the rainy season and not the best time of year for otters or caiman. There is no orphaned otter here now but we still saw the best wildlife of our Guyana trip here, including 2 Giant Anteaters. Very good birding too. The hospitality from Salvador and Andrea and their team was second...

Came back after several years and found all the peace and quiet and all the birds and animals still around! Changes were in rooms, clean comfortable and much improved. Meals are delicious and surprised and pleased us all ! Salvador and Andrea are gentle and sweet but, efficient hands on managers who were always there when needed. Staff well supervised,...

We visited Karanambu Lodge in low season end of June 2015. We were well received on the savannah airfield. The accomodation was nice in a big fresh air open bungalowstyle cabinlodge. Hammocks on the veranda outside. Clean and well functioning bathroom and shower. Well equipped With all kind of mosquito-avoiders and killers (necessary in this part of Guyana). The best...
