We camped here in November while bicycle touring around the Catlins. The weather was very wet, cold and windy and the owner advised us to camp in the day shelter for the night which was much appreciated. The facilities (kitchen and shower) were basic but...More
We visited Curio Bay just in the afternoon and did not stay at the campground. We parked in the lot that indicated there was a petrified forest on the beach. We walked down and hunted around and found a few petrified logs. We then walked...More
We only stayed the one night in an unpowered tenting site but thought it was excellent here. It pays to get here early afternoon and set up as it gets quite busy later on. This is especially so if you have a bigger tent as...More
Great campsite in fantastic spot. There is now a brand new kitchen/laundry/shower/toilet block. Swam with dolphins and saw lots of yellow eyed penguins.

Hi there, I'm sorry I missed your question. I actually have no idea about whether they are two separate grounds but we stayed at the one closest to the petrified Forest where the penguins are so assume they are the same. We didn't book but then I'm not sure whether it's busier for the camper vans - we were in a tent so just tried our luck and it worked out. Perhaps email them and query but it was a beautiful spot and I'd highly recommend it. Have a wonderful holiday :)
