We have just spent 2 nights at Isle of Eriska Hotel to celebrate my partner's 50th birthday. This hotel is absolutely superb and is well deserving of their 5 star status. A warm welcome is given on checking in and it is delightful arriving to a crackling log fire and lovely smell of woodsmoke. Our room ,(Lismore) was spacious with a large bay window looking out onto the gardens and was decorated and furnished so attractively. The bed was super king sized with high quality bed linens , pillows, duvet etc. The room was equipped with everything you could need - loved the full size bottles of mineral water and the high end toiletries in the beautiful, luxurious bathroom. We were staying on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate and every meal we had was fabulous , topped by the many course tasting menu on Saturday evening. The chef acommodated our seafood intolerance and each course was so interesting, imaginative and delicious . It was by far the best dining we have experienced in a very long time. Every staff member at the hotel was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and they seem to go out of their way to ensure guests have a very enjoyable stay. The scenery on the isle is stunning and there are many walks to enjoy. We didn't have a chance to try the croquet and putting but will save that for next time. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and we look forward to returning hopefully in the not too distant future.…
Stayed last night at this fantastic hotel. Prior to arrival we were asked if we wanted to upgrade to a hilltop reserve room and a small cost and so glad we did. The room, well more like a small flat was amazing, and what a sunset from the deck. A short 10 min walk to the hotel, please note it’s not lit and at this time of year a little slippy, but worth it. Dinner was stunning, especially the mushroom ravioli and breakfast was pretty good also. Can’t wait to go back
It would be easy to be fooled by the history of the Isle of Eriska, and the beautiful setting. Is it a hotel in decline? I think so. We stayed in a spa suite, it was dated and the bathroom in bad repair, see the pictures below. Tea and coffee was provided in the room, but the jars were chipped. No biscuits or any welcome drink (just water). Golf was non existent, the course, just 6 holes, was unplayable. We were going to try but they wanted to charge us quite a bit for golf balls that were never going to be found! I did complain, and did receive an email from the manager, but offering me a free night in the hotel - its unlikely we will return to that area in the near future, its a bit of trek! I do believe when it's a genuine complaint, some recompense, especially as this is ported a 5 star hotel, should be offered. the staff were friendly and helpful. Food we had was fine. We ate in the Deck which was also a bit shabby, but food was good and staff were lovely. We declined the tasting menu as it seemed overly priced for what it was, having just experienced a super one at Cameron House Hotel. disappointing! …
We have just returned for a short break at Eriska. We were so delighted with hilltop 5. Modern, warm and inviting but the view is out of this world. Great to have a fire in winter but did not use the hot tub on the deck as winter. Fully equipped kitchen meant we cooked dinner on first night however tried the restaurant the 2nd night and we were not disappointed. Staff are so friendly and helpful. I also had a massage with Gillian which was also excellent. Great dog walks and lots to da - Tennis, badminton, bowls, swimming pool and gym.Cant wait to visit in summer.
We stayed here for 3 nights at the start of December and had a an amazing stay. The staff were so well trained and the experience itself was amazing. Dining in the restaurant was a fabulous experience. Thank you to the whole Eriska team for a wonderful stay , we will be back!
Just back from a very impromptu trip away and loved every minute of it! The hotel is in such a beautiful location, the staff were fantastic and so friendly. We have been before but this years trip was 10/10!!
Great stay, was just a small break between Christmas and New Years so all their decorations were up and looked lovely. Made the hotel feel super cosy! Room was very nice, with large windows and we slept well, the beds are extremely comfy and it’s so quiet at night. Dinners and breakfast were fantastic, the tasting menu was outstanding - more seafood based than game/ red meat but it was super. There was even a sweet potato scone to finish it off. Grounds were lovely to walk about on. Obviously a lot of plants are not in bloom but it made the walks more dramatic.
This was my second visit to Isle of Eriska castle hotel. I absolutely love the whole package - old world charm, amazing surroundings - the walks and views surrounding the island are breathtaking. The staff make this place a real treat, they are so attentive and friendly. A tasting menu as well as less formal dining option is offered, both absolutely delicious. Thank you Isle Eriska - This place is magical.
I booked this hotel for 4 nights dinner, bed and breakfast for myself and husband 2 months before, for my 60th birthday, paying the total cost upfront to secure the booking in a particular suite. 2 weeks before on a bank holiday I received an email saying that the hotel would now be closed on our first night offering alternative hotels several miles away. When I suggested just moving the booking forward 24 hours I was told that was not possible because someone else was booked into the suite on what would then be our last night. I was offered another room but given I had particularly chosen and paid for the suite I didn't want a different room. So I therefore asked for a refund to be back in my bank account that day given I've now 2 weeks to find an alternative break. I was told that I would have to wait for up to 5 days for the refund on my original card and they understood my frustration. I would suggest they do not understand my frustration. When I emailed and said that was unacceptable I was told it had been processed - so in essence it is tough luck I paid in good faith 2 months ago and now have to wait for reimbursement. I then responded to the email requesting the contact details for the Chair of the Board of Directors and then received a phone call from a manager saying I had asked to speak to someone- I informed him I had not, and up until then it had been someone in the reservation office that had been emailing me about my booking - no one had had the courtesy to ring me initially to tell me they had a problem nor that they could not refund me straight away. He apologised but let me know that unfortunately the bank would not be processing my refund today Tuesday because today was also a bank holiday but not to worry it is usually less than 5 days (now 6 given the bank holiday) to receive a refund. Apparently I could not be refunded via BACs straight into my account for GDPR reasons - I did believe an exception could be made on this occasion. When I asked when a decision had been made to close the hotel I was told it was made by the management team a couple of days before - clearly the New Year weekend telling me and possibly others on the bank holiday Monday. I totally understand business decisions have to be made and I have not been told why they have decided to close for the 2 days but it is the handling of the decision i.e. notice provided, lack of speedy reimbursement and mode of communication that I do not feel is appropriate in these circumstances and certainly would have expected better. We have relatives living in Benderloch so visit the area regularly but will not be bothering with this hotel again since clearly their view of how to treat guests differs to mine. I do however think they need to consider more carefully how they intend to handle the outcome of similar decisions in future because I am not convinced from my interaction they have recognised any learning. So if you wish to feel valued I suggest you do not book into a hotel run by Inverlochy Castle Management International who list on their webpage as being responsible for managing this hotel!…
After staying here on two other occasions, our most recent visit was a big disappointment. Although the hotel and grounds are beautiful, the food was very average and the two activities we wanted to enjoy (golf and bowls) were no longer available, despite being advertised on their website. My biggest disappointment however was the quality of the service - unprofessional staff and on a couple of occasions, quite rude. On explaining our experience to the manager, I was quite surprised there was no forthcoming apology.
