They don't allow you to explore on your own, and with quite a bit of dangerous wildlife around you really shouldn't. The guides do a nice job of planning outings that allow you to see and experience a lot.

I had a fear of heights and didn't make it up to the top. One of our two guides stayed with me and the other one in our group who didn't make it to the top. The guide said about 10% of people don't do it. Although we were on the ground for several hours while our partners were up high, our guide demonstrated native basket making while we waited below. We weren't shamed for not going up, although we did have a long wait down below.
