First of all, we think that Roy and Karen, the owners, are two genuinely nice people. Warm, helpful, it is a real pleasure to spend time with them. The bed and breakfast is on the way to Marsella and Maderas beaches, and it is settled in the middle of the forest; our neighbour was a monkeys family. The cabana was...

Roy And Karen were the perfect couple to inform us on all things Nica. Any questions we had regarding what, when, where and how to do someting during our stay were easily pointed out. Their place is perfect for relaxing but if you are looking to be entertained, they ve got that covered as well. They can supply as much...

My brother and I were looking to surf and relax. And that's exactly what we did. Besides, when it's hot as hell you really don't want to do anything else. A typical day is greeted with a good breakfast from Karen. Followed by a little reading. Then down to the beach, a 15 minute walk, for some surfing. Playa Madera...

A group of nine of us, including two teenagers, spent 5 nights with Karen and Roy Goldman at Empalme a las Playas near San Juan del Sur in March of this year. The site is really great, with lovely, clean cabins and a comfortable outdoors common area, where the honor bar always has plenty of cold water and beer, with...

I really enjoyed my stay at Empalme a Las Playas. Roy and Karen were very gracious hosts. The cabinas were fantastic. (Much better than the random hostel dorm rooms in San Juan del Sur! The "off-the-beaten-path" feel was also a welcomed change after San Juan del Sur. There are also a number of good restaurants, hangouts and nightspots in the...

My boyfriend and I came across this place on Trip Advisor while researching places to stay during our trip to Nicaragua. All I can say is that the reviews here are spot on. Karen and Roy, the keepers of this little paradise, are two of the nicest folks I've ever met. They had great tips on nightlife, restaurants, and beaches....

Roy and Karen are two seriously easy-going and gracious hosts. Karen's cooking, as others have noted, is very good, and Roy makes everyone feel right at home. The beaches nearby (Marsella, Maderas, etc.) are gorgeous with several small places to pick up a tasty lunch and a couple of cervezas. The cabins are charming and functional, if a bit rustic....

Roy and Karen. They are an incredible people, welcoming and playful as hosts, relaxed and inspiring as the best of couples, aware and involved in the local culture and environment, and simply, truly among the best of the best we have met anywhere, ever. Roy and Karen built a beautiful home for themselves, before working with the locals to build...

We stayed here for 3 nights around Christmas and enjoyed our stay. We had a spacious cabana with bathroom included and a delicious hearty dinner every evening. We even had roast turkey with homemade cranberry sauce on Christmas night. Roy and Karen are very friendly hosts, keen to get to know you and have a multitude of fun games available....

My buddy found this place here on Trip Advisor and I'm glad he did - it was everything that the reviews said it was. Roy & Karen are amazing people. I did feel like I was leaving my family when it was time to go. Karen's food is as good as everyone writes. Roy's story telling is spectacular and the...
