This was our second stay and it never fails to disappoint. Not modern but very well kept with the charm and authenticity of old Mexico. Less than $60 per night and very clean with helpful staff. Dont miss this place!
We stayed one night in the town of Tequila Mexico about an hour west of Guadalajara. We wanted to complete a Tequila making/tasting tour. We chose Rubio for our single night stay. This is a very honest review that might help you decide if this is the place for you. This is a place I was willing to stay one night but, probably not more. The room ran me about $55US and I feel this was a reasonable price for the stay. It was about 1/3 of the next place because it was a busy weekend. The location. This hotel is within walking distance of most of the distilleries and el centro. This is a fun happening town in the evenings and we had a lot of fun and never had to drive. You are within comfortable walking distance from anything you want to do. We left our rental vehicle in the hotel courtyard which was secure and closed from the street right next to our room. If you check in later in the day, make sure that you walk to el centro in the evening. Its completely safe with plenty of lights and many families out enjoying the evening. The Pools. We noticed lots of birds using the pools as ponds and decided that these were not something we wanted to share. The pools were cloudy but look good in their pictures. We tested the water and it was very cold. The Wifi. Concrete rooms pretty much prohibit the wifi from working in the rooms but it works in the courtyard. It’s actually fairly quick once you are connected The resort. The AC worked great in our room. The bathroom and shower were very small and dimly lit with a single bulb hanging from the ceiling. The shower took a fairly long time before hot water is available but eventually it was hot. I am fairly certain that you should only drink bottled water within this facility. My youngest son discovered this the very next day. No big deal because there are pharmacies everywhere. Check in was a little odd. The young adult manager did not have any interest in being here. Not a concern for me since I would rather have self check-in anyway. They hand you the TV and AC remotes. The return of these is also your way of checking out. Plaza Rubio met my needs for a good night of rest and proximity to nearby restaurants and distilleries. Let me know if this was helpful in making your decision. Our next Mexico trip is probably Cabo and then Mazatlan. Follow if you want updates regarding those locations.…
This is a nice comfortable hotel reasonably priced within a five minute walk of the main square and the Jose Cuervo La Rojena Distillery. The hotel unfortunately does not any longer make use of the catering facilities that they have so you have to either self cater with takeaways (no in room facilities) or use external restaurants. It would have been nice if they at least had a pot of coffee in reception so that you could get a morning "fix" without leaving the hotel. Having said that, there is no shortage of options available within a few minutes walk to get breakfast or dinner. We had breakfast at Mercado de Comidas "Cleofas Mota" which had plenty of choices at prices starting at 70 pesos for coffee juice and a plate of food. We found that the hotel was willing to check us in early which meant that we could leave the car in the hotel parking and then go out for the afternoon to explore the town and the distillery. Similarly we could leave the car the day of departure until after midday. The internal gardens and pool area are pretty and well kept although during our 24 hour visit the pool appeared to be cloudy so we did not use it.…
We like several features of the hotel. 1) good safe parking area locked at night. 2) Comfortable quiet room. 3) Purified water available for refill in a big decanter in the hall. 4) Lovely garden. 5) 3 blocks to the main square - easy walk Did not like too much the lack of WiFi in the rooms but it was available outside of the rooms. Very good price for this comfortable hotel.
This hotel is downtown, about 3 blocks from the central square, close to restaurants, banks and attractions. The staff was very helpful, and parking for your vehicle is inside and inner courtyard that is locked at night, which makes the hotel very secure. There is an inner courtyard with seating and fountains which is very pretty.
