Nice location within easy reach of Edinburgh. Very friendly helpful staff with nice food & comfortable rooms . Got a homely feel with a real wood burning fire & grounds to walk around . Perfect for a relaxing weekend break

Returned here after 3 years writing a 5 star review - Wow has it gone down hill In that time. Rooms - Dirty, tired, heating makes some awful noises, bath tiles had mouldy and linen was ripped. Food - Breakfast was terrible. Ran out of hot food and then no apology. Evening food wasn't any better. Staff - Seems like... More

This is the second time of staying at the hotel, after my last stay I had high expectations. No heating, complained to girl at reception to be told "I will pass on your comments sorry about that" followed by a snigger, what's the joke ? Decided to go for a drink but no bar staff back to reception, I will... More

One booking but 3 rooms. :) Due to heating problems in our room, we were invited to a spare room for the following night and then upgraded to the bridal suite for the rest of our 5-day stay. Marvellous solution-minded staff. Gorgeous breakfasts. The surroundings are awesome. The rooms are comfortable and/or a bit vintage. The place can only be... More

Weekend away with my husband for my birthday. Lovely location, upgraded to a superior room which had stair case up to bedroom. Dinner in hotel very nice with attentive staff. Room large with shower room. Reception and stairs very stately. Hotel caters to weddings so can be noisy when guests departing for the night. Breakfast needs upgraded, strange rosti and... More

This was an eagerly anticipated trip and from reviews and photos, we were excited and very much looking forward to it. The major advantages that it had was that downstairs was beautiful with the fire in the entrance and the barman (john) was amusing and entertaining. The room in itself was horrific and I can honestly say this is the... More

Firstly I'm glad I didn't look at trip advisor reviews before I went and so that I could make up my own mind. All I can say is this is an amazing hotel with amazing staff. From start to finish they were very attentive to our needs and even when I requested to put a duvet on the mattress ,as... More

I'm very disappointed with our stay. When we checked in the gentleman behind reception was very nice and helpful but just went downhill from there. The room was small, dated, cobwebs on the ceiling and a flashing bathroom light! We got up for breakfast which was served between 8 and 10, went down at 9 and there was no hot... More

My partner and I stayed here for two nights - Thursday and Friday. Back home, in London, we were looking for a place where we could rest after a period of intense stress. We went online and discussed the various options we at hand. We shortlisted a few places and then chose Melville Castle at my insistence. I thought it... More
