Melville Castle, once home to the influential Dundas family, is set within a 54 acre estate of wooded parkland on the picturesque banks of the river North Esk. Located just 20 minute drive from Edinburgh’s city center this luxurious castle offers the tranquillity of a country setting on the doorstep of this thriving city. The 33 classically styled bedrooms offer all the luxury & comfort you deserve and our friendly team will take pleasure in catering to all your requirements during your stay. The Castle provides Bed and Breakfast accommodation and there are a number of award winning and highly recommended restaurants within 5 minutes drive. At one time the hunting seat of Mary Queen of Scots, the Castle was commissioned by the first Viscount Melville in 1791 for entertaining, which it continues to do to this day. We have ample free parking and a frequent 24 hour bus service to Edinburgh from the bus stop at the Castle Gates.

We stayed here recently for a wedding. The castle is quite atmospheric and sits in some beautiful grounds. Our room was comfortable and well appointed although the tea and coffee things are hidden away and we only discovered them while searching for the hair dryer. The buffet

Dear Gelias51, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback following your stay with us. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your overall stay with us including our famous breakfast buffet! Thank you for pointing out the tea tray being slightly out of view - comments which we will pass onto our housekeeping team. Wishing you a Happy New Year! Kind regards, The Melville Castle Team.

We really enjoyed our three nights at this hotel. I wanted to stay in a castle and this met my expectations. It is smaller but in a beautiful setting and you feel the experience of how grand it was when just one family lived in it. It’s in good condition and the rooms are large

A 2 night stay, convenient for visiting family in Dalkeith. Mezzanine room was 'quirky', not good for anyone with mobility problems bed up fairly steep stairs everything else including tiny TV downstairs. Room was very clean, warm, bed and bedding good. Good shower - over bath.

What an experience to stay in an old castle. The building is well maintained, rooms are clean and serviced daily. The grounds are beautiful and captivating when you go for walks. The meals are tasty and they cater for everyone.

Contact the hotel. I found them to be extremely helpful and kind. Be sure to tell them you will need a ground floor room. Although they have an elevator, we had to navigate stairs as well on the 2nd floor. I would also ask for extra blankets. While the room was quite comfortable, the blankets seemed small for the bed. The room we had was quite large with a beautiful view. Hairdryer in the room but if I remember correctly, no outlets in the bathroom (we encountered this often in Europe). I had to use the hairdryer at the desk but there was a mirror.

There is a lift and some of the rooms are amazing (ground flour) The best thing to do is speak to them directly. They will be able to advise you on what to do. Though some areas may not be accessible due to the structure.
