My partner and I stayed here after our hike in Abel Tasman and it was the perfect spot to shower, unwind, and stargaze. It's so peaceful, and the facilities are great. Fully equipped kitchen, lounge area, and laundry. Just what we needed after a 7 hour day of hiking! The owners, Cath and Al are very knowledgable about the area... More

The staff were welcoming and helpful and I can imagine that in nice weather the location would be relaxing and beautiful- however... We booked on the same day we arrived, a rainy afternoon for an an overnight stay en route to Nelson. The website fails to mention that the bedrooms are in separate buildings to the kitchen/bathroom, to the lounge... More

The location is really nice. The hostel is situated in the forest so i'ts really quiet and peaceful. But, we were disappointed about some stuffs. First of all, the kitchen is too small. The wifi was not working at all. We stayed there for 5 days, but my daughter who was staying in the camping 3km from us could't even... More

Many positives to this rustic backpackers including great location (minutes drive to Abel Tasman), very helpful & friendly staff (family-owned), and large, practical communal kitchen (with a gas stove, large fridge, and great selection of products to utensils). Rooms are clean, showers are hot, hostel is well kept. A few of the drawbacks: No lockable luggage space in room. Free... More

We had a double room with share facilities. Everything was clean and in very good condition. This place is a little away from the village but that is the reason why you have to take it! Stay in the nature, look in the forest or in the night sky and relax. We stayed four nights and want to stay longer!... More

The dogs were so fun to play with! The place was small and cute, in the woods. We were there during an intense storm, and multiple times I thought trees would fall over and break something, but overall it was a lovely place and very clean.

I had a wonderful time at Kanuka Ridge. The rooms and all public areas were spotlessly clean and really nice. Cath and Al, the owners, go out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful stay and all that you need for your Abel Tasman trip. The beds were wonderfully comfortable, whichw as very welcome after hiking the... More

Custom designed backpackers with class, for max 20 guests. Beautifully quiet. Excellent kitchen and shared facilities. Spotlessly clean. Room had balcony overlooking fern forest which was lovely. I rented a car and found this a much easier to explore the area as public transport very limited. Walking the Abel Tasman Track which starts nearby was fabulous. Owner offered lifts the... More

There are 2 tent sites, on nice grass and kind of hidden, with a table right there. We were the only guests in a tent, which meant it felt like we were really far away from all the busy campsites that are close to Abel Tasman, but still only needed to drive 10min to get to the start of the... Stayed here for for several nights to explore the Abel Tasman - absolutely gorgeous spot out in the bush, surrounded by nothing but trees and bird song. Absolutely lovely hosts that will help you any way they can. Highly recommend this place, only downside is that you really need a car as it is quite off the beaten track (although... More
