Peggy's Cove is internationally famous for its wild beauty and unique geological features. I think the visitors want to see the place where brave men in small boats set off into the vast Atlantic ocean to harvest its bounty and then come home to this small but safe harbour, to family and friends. They want to experience the rocky shore, pounding waves and imagine the safe, guiding light of the lighthouse. Staying at the Breakwater Inn gives you the opportunity to satisfy your yearning for what Canadians call the authentic 'Down East' experience. The inn is actually one of the original homes in this small village. It is across the street from the best view of Peggy's Cove (the harbour) and just down the road from the famous lighthouse and rocky shore. Barb, your hostess, makes the house and rooms cozy, very clean and welcoming. It is a very relaxed atmosphere so don't mistake casual for uncaring or unprofessional. She and Peter, the owner, care very much about your comfort and wellbeing. It is personal in just the right way. Everyone I met here is honest as the day is long and genuine in wanting their guests to have the best experience in Nova Scotia. I spent 4 nights at The Breakwater Inn. Breakfast was provided every morning by voucher at the restaurant down the road at the Lighthouse. The food at that restaurant is delicious and it offers authentic East Coast specialty dishes as well as plain food. However, if you want the best Lobster Roll in all of the east coast, you can get it served to you (sometimes even by Barb, herself) at the food truck right outside the front door of the Breakwater Inn. It is a Lobster Roll that you will remember your whole life and will be the bench mark for all rolls you have in the future. Simple and delicious. Really, I can hardly wait to go back. Cozy bed, clean bathroom with tub and shower, coffee always available, caring host and hostess to advise on activities and the beauty of having Peggy's Cove all to yourself after all the other people go home. This is the simple pleasure that you can seldom find anywhere, much less find it at a major tourist destination. Take a deep breath of fresh sea air; sit for long enough to see the moving sun change your view; walk among rocks that were placed by the glaciers during the last ice age; feel small in the hugeness of nature and time. This is a unique and precious place and The Breakwater Inn makes it all seem like home. P.S Peter's tour boat had just been taken out of the water at the end of the season when I was there but, after getting to know him during my visit, I would recommend that if you stay during the Boat Tour time, you should make a point of arranging a boat tour with him.

We spent one night at the Breakwater Inn on our visit to Peggy's Cove. After driving by the Inn several times before finally finding it, we were pleased with our nightly accommodations. The room was clean and the bed sheets were so soft! The bathroom shower didn't have much water pressure but was adequate. This is a perfect place to stay if you want to catch the lighthouse at sunset. Totally worth it!! We had a lovely breakfast at the restaurant with the vouchers we received. I definitely recommend this inn!

Loved everything about this B&B! Highly recommend spending the night in Peggy’s Cove. We got up to watch the sun rise and had the whole town to ourselves. The tour buses from the cruise ships in Halifax were just pulling into town as we were leaving. Barb was a great host and meeting Paige was a bonus. Location was perfect!
