Hamadryade Lodge is a luxurious hotel located in the High Amazon region, near Puerto Misahualli. This ecosystem, even if it is still the Amazonian Rainforest, is very different that the one in Lower regions. We are at 500mts altitude with hills and small mountains. Therefore, the climate remains pleasant all year round (24°C in average), and the absence of swamps allows an easier access to the more remote zones of Primary Rainforest, and of course the most positive consequence, is that we do not suffer from the presence of mosquitoes and Malaria.

I had seen a video from "Fernweh Chronicles" that highlighted their activities and where they stayed while visiting Ecuador and this lodge grabbed my attention. I am so glad that we gave it a try. I went to Ecuador with some friends and Misahualli was one of the places we were visiting. The lodge was just stunning. Easy to get to from Quito but great location in the jungle. The staff was fantastic even before arriving. I communicated with Natali and Angel before our visit and they helped me arrange activities (tours) and even transportation from Quito and also our trip to Banos, which was our next stop. They definitely made everything easier. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Angel who made us feel welcome and invited us to enjoy a pool day. He was our bartender for the afternoon lol

Lets talk about our bungalow! We reserved the two floors bungalow since it was 4 of us and it offered two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It was a beautiful one! Both bathrooms had huge doors by the showers that could open up to give you stunning views while showering. The bathroom at the lower level had glass walls by the two sinks so we looked out to nature while brushing our teeth in the morning. The second floor had the second bedroom, a large Livingroom area and balcony with a hammock. Overall, the suite was fantastic.

The food was so delicious! They took our orders during the meal prior so you know that everything is freshly done for you. During breakfast, we put in our lunch order and during lunch, we placed our dinner order. The chef was amazing...all our meals at the lodge were great. All 4 of us loved the food that was so fresh and organic.

Tours: We went to Latas Waterfall and visited the indigenous town. Natali helped us coordinate those and we enjoyed them very much. I have to say that the trail to Latas Waterfall was very challenging and you have to keep in mind your physical level. It had rained a lot and we were going thru slippery rocks and mud. Angel came along with us to the tour and thanks GOD he did. One of my friends had difficulties on our way back and Angel was truly an ANGEL (lol) and helped my friend all the way back. Service from Angel and Natali was outstanding!

My experience at this resort was excellent and I can't wait to go back to visit. I just got back from my beautiful country, Ecuador and I am already dreaming for the day I get to go back to visit Hamadryade and Angel & Natali. Thank you guys for making our experience and unforgettable!

When my husband and I first arrived we knew we had to adjust to our surroundings. We really wanted to immerse ourselves in Amazonia. This lodge is in the jungle so you should set your expectations accordingly.

1) I found the property to be beautiful and well kept. Every day people were cleaning and working around the lodge. Our room was tidied up every day.

2) They provide breakfast, which you order the night before. It arrived at the time we requested each day. We also had dinner each night. We ordered in advance and it arrived at the time we requested each evening.

3) The manager booked our activities each day. The only one we booked on our own was white water rafting. We booked the following tours through the lodge: Waterfall las Latas, Tubing, Machacu Walk, Ceibo walk, Paikawe Lagoon, and Cacoa Tour.

Favorite tours:
Waterfall las Latas, Tubing, and Paikawe Lagoon. We would do these all again. A very good experience.

Least favorite tours: Machacu Walk and Cacoa Tour.

Special note: Carlos our guide was very very nice and spent most of our second day with us. We even had lunch in town with him which was very special. His son Javier was our guide on our first day and took to the falls and tubing. He was very sweet and did a great job.

We had a very good experience at Hamadryade. There are 3 dogs living on the property. The dogs were friendly as well as Frida the monkey that hangs around the lodge.

There were a couple areas that seemed a little tired, but I would expect that given that it’s in the jungle. The large couch located in the lower section was pretty beaten up by the environment so we didn’t sit there. It would be difficult to keep that looking fresh given the surroundings. Not a problem for us.

The only thing that would have been nice is if they had large screens in your room so you can keep the sliding door open at night to get a little breeze but keep the bugs out.

Beautiful accommodation with stunning Amazon views. I had primed myself for insects (this is the Amazon after all!) but the rooms were fine, even at night. Impressive. The staff, especially Pablo and also Natalie were extremely kind and helpful, answering numerous whatsapps before and during the trip! 10/10 hospitality from both! The only area for improvement would be the fact that the manager’s guard dog (we didn’t meet the manager) literally chased my husband, growling and barking, on our way to lunch. We like dogs as household pets but this dog displayed very aggressive, reactive behaviour that was frankly frightening. Whilst it is understandable to keep guard dogs to ward off predators/protect the property, we feel it is inappropriate for this type of dog to be roaming areas where guests inhabit with inadequate recall, including the food preparation area. I believe 4 guard dogs roam around at will. We were also concerned about the on-site semi domesticated monkey that also chased us (we were keen not to be bitten). I notice that the manager has responded defensively to feedback of this nature in the past but I would urge him or her to reflect on the comments rather than dismiss guest experiences. There is no need to get rid of the dogs but they do need to be under control or out of the guest areas.

The rooms are nicely done with views of the jungle but the restaurant service was literally the worst we’ve ever experienced. Even though you are asked to pre-order your meals every meal was 30-90 minutes late. The management is extremely defensive (as you’ll see from their responses from other negative reviews) and there is zero flexibility in their cancellation policy so beware.

There are riots in Quito which prevented from me to come to this Hotel. I could not even get to this hotel even if I wanted to. Multiple different transportation services and flights cancelled on is. This Hotel is only about money and does not care about customer service. There are civil protests going on in Quito and they still expect you to risk your life and come to the hotel, since they don't want to refund the refund the money despite asking. Give your business somewhere else to a local lodge like Huascila - they went above and beyond and understood my situation. I lost a lot of money on this one.

Hamadryade is set in a gorgeous location with an incredibly friendly staff. My wife and I were consistently impressed by both the quality of the food and the ability of the team to make us feel at home.

Upon departure, we discovered several personal belongings had been left behind by accident; the team offered to arrange for a taxi to drive to Quito overnight to ensure we had our belongings before our departure the next day. TRULY above and beyond.

We are traveling all of Ecuador and this stay has been a highlight. It’s a lovely place, very well kept. The rooms are really your very own casita with one wall made of sliding glass doors to look out over the jungle. You can sit out on the balcony of your own room and listen to the wonderful sounds of the jungle.

The meals were divine and quite well displayed while maintaining wonderful flavors.

This provided an exotic experience while still honoring the nature of the Amazon. This is a delicate balance for any place and they have done an outstanding job.

They even have a charger for the electric car. Well done!

Run down and in need of many repairs. Service was super friendly, but the actual execution was consistently pathetic. The mistakes became almost laughable. Just 1 example, they arrange meal times in advance, but were 30-90 minutes late every time. The food was mostly delicious, but certainly not as artful or interesting as portrayed in their marketing photos. Their has definitely been a change in chefs. The ecosystem felt quite dead - the only wildlife we saw or heard were some insects. Far less birds than our hotel in the city of Tena! Aggressive dogs live on site - mostly out of view, but probably contributes to scaring away the natural wildlife.

Dear Alison, we had the delicacy to receive you even though you had COVID since you were recommended by a friendly agency. We do not have room service but we made an exception for you, for this reason the food takes time, not to mention THAT YOU left the room in very poor condition, very dirty things and damaged appliances. We would have loved you to at least say THANK YOU for the hospitality

From the service to the room I loved the experience. The staff created a comfortable environment for our group to soak up the forrest. Waking up to the feel of being in the middle of no where was magical. The food was authentic, the grounds sang with life, and the energy was pure. Love this place.

I'm writing this review from the lodge and I haven't checked out yet, although I have to say for the first time, I can't wait to leave.

I wish I would have read the reviews before coming here. This place shouldn't be operating or they should update their facilities. The Internet was down, the food was bland at best - there was no hot water last night to shower but I gave them the benefit of the doubt; the owners are nice people and didn't want to complain. But today after a grueling and messy, albeit exhilarating hike to the waterfalls, I couldn't wait to have a quick rinse in hot water before continuing my day. To no surprise, there was no hot water!!! I was cold as is from the waterfalls, my hair could have used a good shampooing from all the mud, and after a long wait, still no hot water.
Last night a huge water bug was discovered wandering around our room; which is in desperate need of an update, btw. So instead of yelling real loud, I killed the bug myself. Ok, I'm not complaint about the huge water bug. What I'm upset about is the fact that after someone was here in the morning to clean our room, they didn't remove the dead bug. Also, our sheets don't smell bad but today in the morning when I woke up, I realized it was stained. Now I don't have my period or any bloody scales on my body so it's not from me. There's something really gross knowing that someone other than me, soiled the sheets and then they used it again for the next guest. Also, there are no window shades for the bedroom, so when the sun comes up, it's light in the room and so I woke up too early. I should have known to turn around and leave as soon as our driver made his way up to the lodge. It is completely unpaved and not fit for a regular car to use. Unless you have a big truck, which the owner has, then it's somewhat ok. But let's just say, this entire experience is inconsiderate. Really. We also made sure not to eat dinner at the lodge again because if on New Year's Eve, the food was as shockingly boring, then I could've only imagined how bad it would be the next day. In town there are restaurants that will serve the simplest dishes which are better than what you'll get at the lodge. So I would not recommend anyone to visit unless the owners update this place which has massive potential. All in all I feel bad writing all this because the owners themselves are pleasant. But this wasn't a pleasant experience for me. And for $330 a night, it was basically a complete waste.

It is weird to have clients that tell you that everything is fine and then remeber things after. So one piece of advice next time: when there is a problem with hot water, or a bug (because yes we have bugs in the rainforest, some people are still surprised about it, even though I thought that the word rainforst or jungle should give a helpful hint), let us know so we can help, a gaz tank can be changed easily, it takes 5 min. Regarding dinner, since everybody that night was delighted, I don't know what to say, I have no idea about what you usually eat, it has to be different somehow. Also, "jungle" and "amazon" are still good indicators that you might consider to rent something else than a small city car, I guess it should make sense somehow, most people do, even car rentals normally forbid to rent those cars if you say you're going in the Amazon. About the sheets, yes there was a small RUST stain, about 2cm large, we're sorry about that. Thanks to you we were able to get it removed. Nobody bled thoroughly in the beds and if it was of course we would have removed those we are not stupid. I understand (even if I don't know why since you said that you were so happy, especially when you asked us to take you out for the new years party) that you could be angry, but that is no reason for lying, maybe this is the way you do things, if so I couldn't do anything about that.
