Tripadvisor gives a Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
Other reviews cover off what the lodge offers/does, so I'll just say that our stay at this lodge was relaxing and a lot of fun. It's not deep in the amazon so it's a good introductory for those who don't want to stay in an expensive lodge but aren't prepared to rough it in the amazon yet.

We stayed at Liana lodge for two nights and three days. We took two buses and a canoe(5mins) to get to the lodge from Quito. The journey was long but fun. Make sure you confirm your reservation and time of arrival once you are in Quito and Tena. The food was great, the bar had yummy cocktails at reasonable prices. The rooms were clean but shared a wooden roof with another cabin so it lacks privacy. There is no electricity but they have hot water and an outlet to charge ur phone/camera. The tours were nice since you get to see the primary forest but they have limited hiking options. The staff was very friendly. We got to see a lot of monkeys just outside our cabin. Make sure you carry lots of bug spray and use it all the time. We didnt apply it at night and got bitten all over. Luckily there was no malaria there. Also carry a flash light since you will need it at night to go back to your cabin or night hikes. We did some tubing in the water which fun especially since there were no piranhas. Overall a very good experience!

We stayed there two nights. When we got to their parking place before heading to the lodge by boat, we were surprised by how dirty it was. We were very happy to see how opposite the actual place was. We liked the fact that there was no electricity in our room. We had great and plentiful food. One of the hotel staff who is a member of the Hourani tribe took us for a walk around the jungle. We did not see many animals except in AmaZOOnico. After the visit in AmaZOOnico, we tubed back in the river. We really enjoyed the whole experience.

The staff at Liana lodge were very welcoming, the rooms were fabulous and the food was plentiful. We saw loads of monkeys and birds and insects on the different tours as well as all the animals at Amazoonico. The only slightly annoying thing was the extra expenses for extra tours. It was advertised as 3 days and 2 nights but this only really meant one day of tours. Anything outside of this time was added to the bill. I only found this out at the end so only just had enough money. Overall though, it was a great experience and I would recommend.

Und last but not least: sehr sehr freundliche Quichua-Indigenas arbeiten dort (wenn auch etwas zurückhaltende, schüchterne).

My wife and I live in Ecuador at present and we recently took some Aussie visitors with us to Banos, Puyo and Tena. They wanted to experience the jungle in the Amazon Basin - the 'Oriente' in Ecuador, so we found out about Liana Lodge and made a booking on their website.
Getting to Liana lodge is an experience in itself. There are detailed instructions on their website and everything worked as stated (given the usual delays of travelling in remote areas of South America). We came from Banos on the bus to Tena, then took a 2 hour bus ride on to Puerto Barantilla - a little stop on the side of the road next to the river. As promised, our transport to Liana Lodge was waiting. This was our first highlight. The river was flowing rapidly and looked exciting to say the least! But our expert boatman helped us into the canoe (a long-boat with outboard motor) and wisked us downstream to the lodge. This is the only way to get to the lodge - by boat. But it was great.
The lodge itself is very rustic but very welcoming. Thatched roof huts and a similar style central, outsdoor dining area. A bar with cold drinks is available and all charged to your room account. You need to pay with cash however, so keep that in mind before you leave Tena as there are no ATM facilities in any of the trees in the jungle!!!
Liana Lodge is part of an eco-development, trying to care for the jungle and wildlife in the area. They operate an animal refuge centre too which is part of the included tour that you get on your visit to Liana. We stayed for two nights which was just perfect. There are several packages to choose from on their website but we found two nights sufficient.
DO go on the walk that is suggested. (Only a reasonable level of fitness is required - don't go if you have serious health issues that prevent you from physical exertion) The walk takes about two hours and the guide is very patient with those of us who are less fit. But you will see so much and learn a lot. The lodge provides large rubber boots (they have all sizes) to protect you from the muddy track. Also part of the walk is up a small creek with water to ankle height, so you NEED the boots. We saw frogs with deadly venom, ate delicious lemon flavoured ants and heaps more. As expected, it is quite humid and hot on the walk, so take a water bottle - although our guide also took along home made lemonade for us too!
Back at the resort, meals are all provided but are a set menu. Having said that, they were filling and tasty -just don't expect a choice of menu items. They do have a small range of wines and just a few spirits to choose from - soft drink (soda) and beer also.
The rooms consist of single beds - very clean linen. You have your own private bathroom with toilet and hot water in the shower . There is no electricity here, but the resort does have a generator so they will offer to charge your camera gear if needed. You can get Movistar mobile reception sometimes - but don't count on it!
Many of the staff are volunteers. They come and pay a minimal board and work full-time in for the project. So you get to meet people from all over. The permanent workers are locals and very friendly.
I'm not an adventure tourist, but this place makes experiencing the jungle possible and it's not over-the-top resort style. Just enought to make life enjoyable for your stay in this beautiful part of the word. My Aussie mate tried his hand at fishing with a net. You can float in a tube down the river too if the conditions are ok.
For the price, I would recommend anyone visiting Ecuador to try this place out.
SUGGESTIONS FOR LIANA LODGE: Have a few more drinks available at the bar - maybe a list of cocktails etc. And maybe have a choice of two items on the menu or a few simple side dishes. Have credit card facilites.

It was great to spend couple of days in this lodge with the marvelous guide of Soyu, a local guide who made our visit very nice and showed us a lot about the life of his proud tribe and how to minimize our impact on the nature while keeping a good level of life
It really worth the prize, so enjoy it if you have the chance

Estiamadas, our Lodge can hold up to 43 guests, with one queen size and one single bed in each cabana. Since there are a lot of single room reservations, we usually have around 10 - 25 guests at a time. Saludos cordiales Leo
