Liana Lodge is such a brilliant jungle hideaway. Lets ignore the fact it sits on the Rio Napo and not the Amazon itself. The logde has made excellent use of local materials. The reception area where an introductory talk is given, has carved benches with faces on, a nice warm fire and a small library stocked with books about the Amazon. A little bar sticks out overlooking the river. Stepping stones disappear into the jungle where you accommodation is in individual cabins. They are stilted cabins, no electricity, decent shower, mosquito net and best of all one very large balcony with hammock. There is a very family feel about the place and it was nice to be joined by the resident cats while swinging on the hammock listening to the rain. Bring a torch, you will need it to find you

First some words from my wife - Amazoonica is a wild animal rehab center for recovered attempted smuggled animals or injured animals. The Liana Lodge is staffed by mostly German volunteers with local paid staff. It was started by a woman (Swiss or German) who married a quecha indiginous man and set up the lodge and rehab center to preserve piece of the rainforest. We had a lovely screened, thatched roof cabin with bathroom and front porch hammock. It rained like crazy both nights so the river was too high for tubing, but we did enjoy slogging through the forest in our Wellington boots. I still got insect bites, but so many fewer than 18 years ago. No tarantellas in the roof, no mosquito nets and no need to take malaria pills. To see the "real" jungle now, one must go east from

If you studied the reviews you see that one French couple did not care for Liana. The guy is not just a sorehead. He is exactly right about the accommodations. So, if you know you cannot be happy without air conditioning, electricity and hot water at the lavatory you really should stay in town somewhere. Liana is intentionally copied after the construction style favored by the real inhabitants of the jungle along the Napo (this is not really the Amazon. It starts down in Peru somewhere) All they have done, essentially, is modify the style for scale and add a bathroom so paying guests will accept it. The cabanas are intentionally rustic with no electricity at all. You are in a much fancier place than the locals live in, but close enough that you get it. Be aware that the

Thank you for your comment, we're glad you liked the experience in our Lodge. We hope you understand that the animals which "have to" live in AmaZOOnico, are just the ones that can not be liberated anymore for several reasons. Yet we try to create the best living conditions possible in captivity. Kind regards, your Liana Lodge and AmaZOOnico Team

When asking the question, "Did you like Banos or Liana Lodge better?" of our group, everyone said Banos. But! No one would miss this stop: exploring the river, hiking the jungle, swimming without being devoured by the fish, eating lunch off of a leaf, and visiting a local home. Those tours are just a few of those included in the price of lodging at Liana. We added the night hike, for 25 bucks extra, don't miss it. The meals are not well reported on here, and are worthy of a 5 star rating on their own. What a pleasant experience to sit by candlelight and taste the delicately prepared gourmet meals that are scratch made from local farmers harvest. It's all part of the local effort to support each other and the economy. If we were visiting again, I'd bring a well organized supply

This place was really beautiful, I really enjoy what it looks like : all the furnitures made out of funky trees, the fireplace, the huge dinning room, the candle atmosphere, ... The staff pays attention the each detail to make our stay unbelivable. I really enjoy the fact that we have our private guide for activities, so no need to join a big group. The setting of the bar (right on the river) is really cool, we saw monkeys while having our drinks. Food was delicious, serve in a romantic candle ambiance. We went there as a couple, but we would like to go back with the kids to show them the jungle. Gracias Liana Lodge !

Liana Lodge seemed hard to reach at first but get good directions and it will be worth it! You need to take a boat ride out to the lodge once you reach the parking area. You will pass the Amazoonica. Look for monkeys and make sure to spend an afternoon there during your stay. Beautiful structures and cool locally carved furniture. The food was my favorite here! You are treated well. Daily tours and relaxation is the agenda here. Kind of rustic rooms but you are fore-warned if you read the reviews. You are in the Amazon Rainforest afterall! Must take a night hike and a jungle tour about medicinal uses of the native flora! Take a private boat ride upstream at sunset or float on tubes to mix it up.

we spent 2 nights at Líana Lodge and felt quite well. You can go into the kitchen and looking how they are preparing the delicious food. You eat with candle light everything is organized. You can sit on a veranda at the shore of the river watching the wild monkeys. The tours were interesting and also made fun for our 10 years old daughter. You can let your car at the "harbour" for the days and the lodge will pick you up there by boat. The doble-cabins are nice, no electricity - but that´s jungle.Only 2 things have to become better: You hear everything of your cabin neighbour and for a three persons room there is only one chair at the veranda. But after all: We really enjoied our stay.

An amazing rainforest experience. Super boat trip to get to it. Wonderful central reception, dining area and 'semi detached' lodges. We were in 2:1 with 2 twin beds and a reasonable bathroom with shower. No electricity in the rooms so we had candles and one in the bathroom. Shared balcony with hammock. Breakfasts were good consisting of breads, jams, fruit, juice and eggs. Dinners and lunches were 3 course and always good although after 2 days I was a bit fed up of rice as a veggie. Lots to do in the area although we were on a fixed tour we did a night time walk, day time walk, tubing and swimming in the river, visit to a local community, the nearby animal rescue centre and had a visit by a shaman. We would go back. Downsides were the water wasn't always hot, interconnecting

Our family of four stayed in this lodge for two nights and we wished we would have had more time there. It is a unique place to stay, rustic and beautifully built in the Amazon jungle. We stayed in adjoining twin bed rooms of the same hut, sharing a back porch from which one morning we were delighted to see monkeys running through the trees about 50 meters away. There is no electricity in the huts, but candlelight was a wonderful substitute. Each room had great hot water showers provided by an on-demand water heater. Dining is in the main lodge area, which is also a beautifully built structure above the river. Meals were healthy and excellent. You can relax around a fire in the same area well into the evening. The friendly staff while we were there was a mix of international

My husband, 22 year old daughter and I traveled to Liana Lodge in mid-May. We took a bus from Banos to Tena and from there caught a bus to Puerto Barantilla where our motorized canoe was waiting to zip us down the Arajuno River (a tributary of Rio Napo). The instructions the lodge gave us for the bus trip were perfect. From the moment we set foot in the canoe we had arrived. The boatman helped us with our heavy bags both loading and unloading and within 15 minutes we arrived at Liana Lodge. We were met by a Swiss volunteer who gave us herbal tea, explained their project and gave us an orientation before showing us our rooms. We wanted a room for the three of us but they didn't have that so gave us a whole hut divided into two rooms so my daughter had her own room. The huts were
