The experience with Solar Pezoa, Eli, Inti and the extended family is amazing. Pure kindness and deep connection with healing in nature where life unfolds. Every single detail has been crafted with respect to nature and inspired in nature. Amazanga is an ecolodge and a center for the conservation of traditional wisdom. The architecture is inspired in ancient geometry using local materials by gifted carpenters. You really feel welcomed by a family where cultural diversity is at its core. Best sustainable consciuss tourism is practices. Food is delicious with organic farming. Healing practices include traditional medicine as well as the best of integrative medicine. The opportunity to explore the forest and being amazed by the abundance of water and colors is beautiful. The accomodation is very nice, clean and comfortable. You wake up in the middle of the rainforest with all the facilities you need. This is a place that I highly reccommend and I will visit in the near future again. Transportation from Tena is easy with Pedro who is very diligent and professional driving his pick up.

We stayed here with 5 persons, with 3 cabins. There were no other guests which made it even more special and personal. The arrival was already a unique experience. After a 45 min drive from Tena, they are waiting for you on the other side of the river. Which we could cross with a special cable and wooden construction, a great start!

The cabins are beautiful and clean. We haven’t seen any insects inside the cabin and had a travelers mosquito net, just to be sure.
The food is excellent and freshly prepared by the local staff. The breakfast was the best breakfast we have had so far in Ecuador! We miss it already. In case you prefer not to eat something (e.g. you prefer vegetarian food), that is no problem at all.

You can relax at the river at a small beach. We had two beautiful guided tours by Pedro and Katharina. All Spanish is translated and we have actually learned something about the jungle. We went to a waterfall were we could swim in the cold (and clean!) water.

We enjoyed the personal service, all the information and it was interesting to hear about their community and what they are doing (growing natural medicins and helping locals).

This was a unique and special experience, one of the most beautiful places we have been to (and some of us have traveled a lot!). Do not expect mass tourism, but expect personal and sencere hospitality.

The people at Amazanga Ecolodge are very nice and open hearted. A very welcoming atmosphere. They also share their knowledge about the plants and animals at this place and anestral knowledge if you like. I had a very amazing and inspiring stay.
The little houses where you can stay are comfortable and beautiful.

It's remote. 1 hour from Tena, the nearest town. Through rocky, dirt roads mostly, then over a narrow foot bridge, then in a zip-lined basket over a tributary of the Amazon River to get to the lodge. It foretold what our time there was going to be: a rustic, real, natural adventure. This unspoiled paradise was graciously shared with us by Solar, the spiritual shaman/doctor of the Kichwa villagers and his "family". My family lived with nature and Spirit as they do, engaging in Amazon walks, learning about and using herbs and plants; partaking in Temescal, the "sweat lodge"... and also celebrating a beautiful, simple and meaningful Christmas with this family and (only) 4 other guests. It was 4 days we'd never before and probably never again, will have- devoid of technology, chemicals and packaged life.

Amazanga was special from the first moment. The journey from Tena to the lodge leads through the rainforest and I would never have expected such a beautiful facility.
After a short time, the connection with the people there felt like a friendship. It was very personal and warm.

The food, especially the breakfast was delicious and healthy. If you are not extremely picky, you will like their kitchen
Same time, usually there is only one or two dishes to choose from, so if there is something you do not like, you better communicate it in advance.
As there are not many different options per meal, I suggest to let yourself surprise and be flexible.

The place can be very calm, it is not a place with many people.
So if you like it more, that a lot of things are going on, Amazanga would not be the best place to be. I experienced it more as a place for nature people, that like to see the rainforest or swim in the river.

For me it was a VERY enriching stay and if I return to Ecuador, I will also return to Amazanga.

Upon arrival, we had to discuss about the price..... booked 3 nights via booking, late arrival is not recommended as it is somewhere deep in the jungle - this Information was not (!!!) given on booking, we just received an e-mail a few hours before planned arrival, where they recommended to arrive one day later. On booking it would have been 390 dollars for 2 persons and 3 nights, so 2 nights for 2 people should have been 260 dollars. When we arrived, they wanted 480 dollars for the 2 nights. A real no-Go! We were really upset, but accepted to pay 400 behause we only had 2 nights left in the area and didn't have enough time to search something else.

So 100 dollars per person and night was far too much for:

- a body full of flea bites from the blankets
- a lack of hygiene in the kitchen (diarrhea with fever), the door is always open and animals like the dogs are in there, unattended. The tablecloth seems to be really never changed and the dishes were not always clean!
- we ordered breakfast at 7:30 as we had an excursion and had to leave at 8:00 (we communicated that to them), the last components such as juice were served just at 8:00
- no transparent arrangement about meal times
- everything is glutenfree and extra special "healthy" - the food is very special, which is not a bad thing itself, but this was not communicated beforehand, so if you don't like that of food you really have a problem, as you cannot just go to another restaurant (next restaurant is about 1 hour away)
- information on booking.com differs in many points from reality, for example:
* spa- and wellness center, wellness lounge (??)
* child-friendly buffet (?????) - we never saw something like a buffet
* wine and prosecco - where??
* 24hour reception- definitely no!!
* diving pool - we just saw a normal, small and not very deep pool
* business center and conference room - where???
* canoe sports- in reality this was a rubberboat for children!

The place itself has potential, as it is really beautiful, but such a high price level demands definitely a professional and high service quality!!!

Response from AmazangaE1, Leiter Front Office at Amazanga Ecolodge

Hello Katharina and Bernhard Thank you for leaving your feedback. Via booking you have been choosing the bed and breakfast option. When arriving here, you choose the all inclusive option, this is what made the difference in the pricing. We did communicate the all inclusive price before your arrival. 100$ for 3 meals, natural snacks, a private bungalow and the use of all installations plus a tour in the jungle is an excllent offer for this area. The recommendation to better arrive in the morning, than at 11 in the night, is for two reasons, 1. your arrival would have been out of our checkin times, and secondly, the arrival in the day is simply more comfortable: We are an Ecolodge! in the rainforest! 45 minutes away from tena. It is not the same, like walking in to a usual Hotel in the town. This is important to understand. Here in the middle of the amazonian nature, the natural world is very alive. So we suggetst our guests to arrive in the day. I do understand your frustration about the price, as it seems like you have been unaware that you booked for bed and breakfast only. We have checked your feedback points and see that there are a lot of accusations that do not connect with what is happening here on site. Non of our other guests that were here the same days, were ill with diarrhea nor ever complained about fleas in the bed. (Careful: mosquitobites are more itchy when sweating under the blanket! Do not confuse with animals IN the bed.) We do have rural conference space, aswell as regular spa treatments in a seperate space. Buffets and alcohol are availabl on request, but obviously not included in the basic price. We have offered you to return part of your payment and gifted you meals, as we saw that you are upset, having confused the bed and breaktfast price, with the all inclusive price. In the name of our team we apologize of not having been able to satisfy your expectations. Warm wishes Centro Amazanga Team
