Selina is located in the middle of Tena and Misahualli a small village nearby with a more laidback jungle vibe than Tena. Here, you will be surrounded by wildlife, rapids, and the sights and sounds of the jungle on all sides. Your neighbors may be the famous monkeys that live in town! Selina is one of the few places in town that can boast consistent WiFi. Stop by for a drink or healthy snack at our in-house restaurant, stay in one of our community rooms, privates, or suites, and admire the art from local talent gracing the walls of our friendly, comfortable home, whitewater rafting, kayaking, jungle trekking and more: Tena has everything for explorers. This town is the gateway to the Amazon and has lots of activities to kick your trip off right.

Great place to relax or go on adventures. They offer a lot of options for tours and activities which is great for a solo traveler. Staff was really nice and everything was really clean. If you want to take a bus to town there is a bus every hour.

My kids and I could not have been happier with the lodge. Great family room (warning there are bugs and insects but you’re right by a river in the rainforest).
Great pool and beautiful grounds. Loved the breakfast and dinner. Arranging tours through them was very easy and fast.
Highly recommend

We just spent a week at the Cotacocha Lodge, situated in a picturesque stretch of rain forest along the banks of the Napo River. It is surprisingly close to the bustling town of Tena, but far enough away to take visitors into another world.

The 22 rooms are large versions of traditionally built thatch houses. They are two stories each, which isn't traditional, but they don't lose any of their charm as a result. About half of them are directly along the river Napo (#12-22), with panoramic views. The rushing of the water over the rapids provides a very soothing sleep. The rooms are large & airy with spacious balconies. Some even have hammocks. There is no electricity in the rooms, but the hotel provides charming kerosene lamps to light them at night. The showers have solar hot water (which means if there is no sun, there is no hot water) and the baths are spacious and clean. The rooms are simply awesome, both in appearance and in cleanliness, which is no easy task given the thatch construction.

The dining experience was the highlight of our stay. The food was nothing short of outstanding. Each menu included a delicious soup, a main course that looks like something one might find in the best of French restaurants, along with a tasty dessert. Portions were modest but more than sufficient. Coffee & tea are available and the full bar offers drinks at an additional charge.

The daily excursions were great fun. Cotacocha makes use of the river as its main transportation route, just as everyone in this region did up until just a couple of decades ago. We traveled via motorized "canoe" to locations up and down the river, as much as an hour away. We visited a Kichwa village, a living museum of medicinal plants, a gorgeous waterfall (note: this is a very tough hike, due to the large quantities of mud along the trail), an animal rescue project and the small village town of Misahuali. Just being out on the river, running the rapids was more than enough fun to justify the trip!

There is a beautiful swimming pool on the property, with fountains and a sort of "warm tub" that looks like a hot tub, but is only marginally warmer than the pool. It is a great place to hang out in the afternoon, following a morning on the river. A jungle hiking trail also runs through the property to let guests connect with nature at any moment they get the urge.

The only electricity available is at the main lounge/dining area. The hotel makes many outlets available, but it can get tough to find one during meal times (get there early to charge your batteries!). There is no wifi either, but a surprisingly strong Claro cell signal permits full internet access from a smart phone.

Finally, the staff is simply the best! Andres, the manager, is constantly checking to make sure everything is ok and that you are not missing any expected detail. Ricardo as the "Chief Excursion Officer" is chipper, knowledgeable and always making sure that his guests are having as much fun as possible while out and about in the jungle. Almost all the staff speak excellent English, though we were actually there to learn Spanish, so we kept dragging them back into their native toungue.

All in all, this is a great way to experience the Amazon. It's easy to get to, it's very authentic, the food is outstanding and the accommodations are just really cool. Go there! You will not regret it.

Stayed here with friends for a few nights during a once in a lifetime trip to South America. I'm still so traumatised from my experience at Selina that it's taken me months to be able to write a review.

Suffice to say, I was extremely disappointed in not only the service provided by staff here, but the disgusting trickery achieved by the resort's photographers. The cabins are old and grotty - not like those of the photos. The bathrooms smell funky. The cabin window nets do not prevent mosquitos and flies from coming in so expect to be bitten whilst you are sleeping unless you're covered from head to toe overnight. The cabins have solar panelled showers which take a while (approx 15 minutes) to heat up before you can use them. The pool is not heated and pool showers are ice cold. There is no wi-fi in the cabins (only available in the main reception/restaurant area). Whilst I stayed here, there was a power cut within the region so was unable to charge my phone battery before going on my Amazon excursions and therefore could not take photos. The resort doesn't have a generator which the nearby hotels did have. We often had to eat meals at nearby hotels just to have access to electricity.

There is a distant lack of English speaking staff at the resort so there was often a breakdown in communication which often led to a series of comedy of errors.

We organised a English speaking tour guide for a day tour in the Amazon and were not provided with one. Instead we were provided with a Spanish speaking guide. One of us in my tour group was a Spanish speaker who carried out the translations for us, which is not what I paid for. We raised this with management, who didn't seem to care nor understand the problem. They did offer us a discounted experience which didn't make up for what they took from me.

I would recommend staying ANYWHERE else but here. Don't be fooled by the value for money price. Avoid this place altogether.

In a jungle hostel I did not expect to be 5m from the road, woken up multiple times every night by trucks and busses. The cold pool looks good but the hot tub is only just warm with broken jets. My girlfriend received a shock from our electric shower which spat water out like an acupuncture session. The food was bland and expensive (2-3 times the price of comparative Ecuadorian meals). I had to ask for more before I started, the portion was so miserly. The atmosphere of the hostel is nice and we had fun at kareoke and the employees are pleasant, but I would not stay here again.

It’s really hard to believe the many good reviews for this place. I like adventure travel, but this is the wrong sort of adventure. Facilities are spartan, staff are indifferent and even the placement of the property, on an empty and ugly stretch of river defies explanation. Avoid!

Hot and humid! I guess what do you expect from jungle. It was just such a stark contrast from Quito.

Rooms are rustic but the beds were comfortable. Be prepared for the noise of insects all night long. It 'sort' of lulls you to sleep! Also befriended by a large cockroach in the room. No electricity (be sure to have good flashlights) and really no warm water but with the heat and humidity they were refreshing showers.
The rooms have screens but they are holey. I wore repellent the first night and wished I had done so the second night. The mosquitos ate me alive, and the bites swell and itch for a lot longer than our mosquitos at home. Critters ran across the paths at night and added to the 'jungle feel'.

We got corrected for sitting where we wanted at dinner. It would have been nicer to be able to sit with others and meet people. But food was great!

They are building what looks like a really nice swimming area. Our room was right beside it but they were very respectful and we didnt find it noisy.

They have electricity for charging phones and such but no internet which was fine.

We were very excited about the Lodge based on reviews. We spend a lot of time camping and we were not expecting anything spectacular, we simply wanted a comfortable base to explore the area from -- hot water was a must and I even emailed the Lodge in advance to confirm that they in fact had hot water.

From day one our shower had cold water. We let the staff know and they were very apologetic and promised to fix the problem. We let them know that we didn't mind switching cabins if they couldn't fix it. We came back from a full day including a hike and visit to a local community and wanted a shower before dinner. Again, no hot water. We let the management know again and they again promised to fix the problem. A couple hours later we went back to the room and still, no hot water. They assured us it would be fixed by morning. We again offered to switch cabins (the place was nearly empty) but they promised it would be fixed by morning. Suprise, Suprise, the next morning we STILL had cold water. We were given no discount or any type of consolation. There are many other nearby lodges which don't advertise hot water and are much less expensive.

The lunch and dinner meals were great and very filling. Unfortunately the breakfast was severely lacking. The staff was very nice (although not exactly helpful in fixing a cold shower) and I highly recommend the butterful farm. Another downside is that not all of the cabins actually sit on the Rio Napo which is what the web site implies. Several are very far removed.

Pay the extra $50 and stay at the Hamadryade Lodge and you'll be guaranteed hot water and beautiful surrounding!

I'll write a more complete customer review of the property and my experience once I leave (it is quite lovely) but today I must share this one experience as it is really quite bad. I was approached to move from the dorm I have been in since Sunday (today is Thursday) in which I booked and then extended yesterday until Sunday as it was a very nice stay (it seems because new guests take priority over me?), and I politely agreed to move dorms to a dorm "the same" I was told. It was not the same (more beds, less clean, fewer windows, much hotter, cheaper price, more cramped, right next to construction that starts at 8am or earlier, didnt have enough lockers for each bed), so after I moved over I asked if they could provide a discount, or a free meal or maybe a free drink (of which I never received from either booking even though Selina's site and app say you get a free drink and wellness class upon arrival - have heard nothing about either since I got here) and was laughed at.

Had to argue my best as I could in Spanish to get to another dorm more similar to what I had booked and was forced to leave mid-stay/reservation, but yet again it is DIRECTLY next to the construction site that goes from probably 7 or 8am until end of the day - and then the workers hangout in the construction site all night around a fire in the structure itself). Not sure of this person's name (actually even closer), but while an outlier to the really quite excellent staff experience I've had across ALL employees, this one was really quite poor.

Again, I'll leave a better review with more rational and thought-out feedback that covers all the many good experiences as well upon leaving, but this one experience deserved to be mentioned separately. I'm not sure I could be an easier person to please (as evidenced that I was willing to pack up everything after 4 days and move to another dorm because I was asked), but they've managed to annoy me and change my opinion. Impressive.

Hello. We did not book the adventure package. We just did the standard package, so we did not do white water rafting. We ended up doing everything they stated on the itinerary. The scheduling of the trips depends on the weather. An overnight rain kept us from doing the waterfall hike in the morning, so they rearranged other trips to do that in the afternoon after the trail dried a little. We paid in full prior to arrival. I don't recall if we had to pay the extra 5%, I think if you pay by credit card you might be charged a foreign transaction fee. Other payment methods may not require that fee. Bring cash because I don't think they accept credit cards at the lodge. However, that would only be for beverages. We did not take public transportation. The lodge arranged for a private car service. No issues with the luggage and we felt safe at all times. Everyone was very friendly and just about everyone spoke English. Good luck.
