A comfortable, safe hotel in a quiet location within a small tropical garden overlooking the river. The hotel is directly across the Rio Pano from the Parque Amazonica a small animal refuge and rehabilitation centre. While I was staying access to the Parque was via a wooden canoe as the bridge to the island was down.

The rooms are smart and comfortable with cable tv and a large modern bathroom with hot water. My room had air condicioning and a river view.

Continental breakfast was included in the price. The staff were very pleasant and professional and they stored my bag free of charge for 3 days while I was on a trip into the jungle. The hotel is very good value for money and probably is the best hotel in Tena.

I stayed at the Yutzos for about two weeks on mainly business and I'm so glad I did. The owner spoke English which was great because not many people in Tena speak English. It had a charming breakfast room overlooking the rushing Rio Grande where we had an inclusive breakfast (except for eggs +$1.50) every morning. The bread in Tena is not good anywhere, so that was disappointing at breakfast, but the coffee, juice and fruit were pretty good.

It also had wifi in the rooms, though the lobby was the best place for any real signal strength. The property is very tropical with an enclosed, private jungle courtyard, featuring beautiful plants and flowers everywhere. There's also a nice common area on the 2nd floor overlooking the river where several chairs are set up to get to know others or to just grab and book and read quietly.

This hostel should be described as a hotel because the rooms are set up with a bed or two and their own bathrooms. Other guests do not share the room with you--it's just as if you were booking a Hilton or Marriott room. It would probably get more business if visitors knew this. (There may be hostel-type rooms on the property, but we didn't see any).

You must have air conditioning in Tena. I had a wonderful air-conditioned suite with a breakfast bar, small sink and small frig, a tv (with only one English station however) and an enormous amount of storage space. It was very clean and very big. The beds were pretty comfortable too. We had the same daily cleaning, towel and linen services of a hotel. I was afraid I would have to rough it when I learned I was visiting the small tropical town of Tena, but this property was very comfortable.

The location is great because we could walk nearly anywhere we needed to go, especially to the ice cream shops and restaurants. But taxis are very plentiful and affordable in Tena and almost always $1.00 USD anywhere. There are very few English speaking people in town so you may want to brush up on your Spanish for taxi and restaurant services. There's a neat foot bridge about a 10-minute walk away that brings you across the river to more businesses, shops, restaurants and clubs.

The bus station is also walkable (though I'd cab it for $1) if you want to venture out and sightsee in other towns. There's a great white water rafting place a 5-minute walk away called Tenadventure-River at the base of the foot bridge. The "American-ish" Cafe Tortuga where we all hung out with our laptops needing that strong daily wifi access was also 5 minutes away and it had decent food. There aren't many really good restaurants in Tena because it's not really a touristy town, but a developing town. But the ones that are good are very close by. All in all, this hostel/hotel is a really good spot to have the amenitites you need, the comfort you're probably used to having and a location that works for a good price. If I ever return to Tena, this is the only place I'll stay!

Trust me, this tip will salvage your time in this part of Ecuador. Los Yutzos has Air conditioning, and not all Tena hotels/hostals do. Some very nice (and well-rated places) are fine, but lack AC. Comfort in Ec is all related to altitude and this town ain't got none. When the sun is out, it is brutally hot.
About the other stuff that tourists (like me) like.... the internet works (mostly), the place is very, very clean. And they are friendly.
For about $35 a night for a single you can't go wrong. I have been here about 8 or 9 times over 3+ years and recently have visited some other (lovely) places. Sin AC. I would have been besides myself. And I only come here in the Nov./Dec. timeframe.
Bring your ear plugs, right now it is mid night and some creature is chipping outside my window and one morning we were awakened by heavy machinery at 6:15 am.
Breakfast is fine, pay the extra for the egg upgrade ($1.50 ) i think and the Marquis Grill is the place if you are really Jonesing for that gringo food. Plus you can see sloths.

I booked to stay at this hostal on booking.com
I booked for 3 nights and specifically chose a room with air conditioning as my husband can suffer from the heat and humidity.

we turned up this afternoon and were shown to a double room with a fan. I explained that I had booked a room with AC, but the lady was insistent that I hadn't. After repeating myself several times, I had to log into my emails and showed my booking page to the lady (where it clearly said I had booked a room with AC).

she had printed off my booking and kept saying that I would have to pay extra for AC. I explained that I had a booking confirmation email for a room with AC at an agreed price, and stated that it was her problem to take up with the third party company. she replied saying it was my problem and that I had to take it up with the third party. she was insistent, had poor customer service and didn't even apologise!

I told her that we would take our business elsewhere and that I would not be charged any penalties for walking away, which she agreed to. we are staying at a lovely hostel called welcome break, on the same street for a little over half the price of los yutzos.

I say avoid

Location: in quiet neighborhood, yet walking distance to everything. Also across the street from Mundo Pumba, a great tour agency.
Check in: room was not ready but they were nice enough to hold my luggage until it was.
Room: very clean, but smelled musty like most rooms in the jungle. Windows could open up for fresh air, but since they had no screens it was pointless. Bathrooms had hot showers. ALL rooms in the jungle have small ants. This was no exception. No AC, but had fan.
Breakfast: advertised as "FREE", only the coffee and bread is free. All extras such as ham & eggs are extra. That is unheard of in Ecuador. It's either totally free or not included. That was an insult to me and wasn't even that tasty.
Sleep: It would have been better if neighboring guest would have been quiet and more respectful of others. Slamming doors in the hallway will easily wake you at 5am. My bed backed up to a musty wooden wall. Not good if you have mold allergies, but neither is the entire jungle if you have issues.
Staff: nice enough, but young and disinterested in you
Overall: Stay at Loz Yutzos Dos (La Posada) next door with riverfront views for half the price and buy your breakfast in town. This place is a rip-off and shouldn't be listed in guidebooks as the best hotel in town. That it is not!

While only a block off the main street in Tena, Los Yutzos seems miles away. It is directly on the Pano River and across that river from Tena's Amazon Reserve. Considering that Tena is the launching point for so many Jungle excursions and white water rafting trips, it was surprising to find out that this is the only non-backpacker hotel option in town. Considering that it has no competition, it was a great hotel!

I was able to get a fantastic room with a balcony overlooking the river with breakfast, STRONG wireless Internet access and taxes for $30/night. There is a fridge, a/c, good beds and cable too. My only real minor complaint is that the windows didn't have screens on them. I would have loved to listen to the sounds of the jungle as I went to sleep. As you can imagine, the bugs are an issue here. I saw a moth the size of my face on my balcony!

DO NOT miss the reserve across from the hotel. It is only a 5 minute walk away. The place is full of remarkable animals and foilage. I was amazed that I didn't see any other visitors while I was there! Many of monkeys are not in cages and starved for attention. I have never interacted with monkeys like that and it is something I will never forget! The reserve isn't heavily advertised. I can't help but wonder how many people have stayed at Los Yutzos and never knew such a wonderful place existed right in front of them!

This is really a nice place to stay. Clean, good breakfast, a garden full of trees and plants with comfortable hammocks. Situated next to the river. Sometimes you see little monkeys pass by in the trees. Quiet. Next to the Malecon and close to shops and restaurants. Good nice shower with big mirror with good light. Ventilator is really nice. Television is working. Friendly staff.

My boyfriend and I visited Tena to do some whitewater rafting. We stayed at Hotel Los Yutzos for two nights. Tena is not the most picturesque town, but the hotel was very nice despite that, with a great location next to the river. Staff was helpful and friendly. Very nice common areas with hammocks and chairs to sit and relax by the river. Tena can be hot and humid, but the hotel provided a swamp cooler, and better cooling options were available at an additional charge. Very nice stay in Tena!

I have stayed here two times and absolutely love it! Ironically, both times I was placed in the same room. My favorite is when it rains and you can pull the window open to hear the rainfall on the trees/tin roof/etc. The hotel is within walking distance to multiple restaurants and shops. I always feel safe traveling and staying here as a solo female traveler.

This is not a cheap hotel, however the breakfast feels like that. One morning I woke up to a hammer sound, the other morning someone woke up my baby and me because I needed to move my car from the pretty uncomfortable parking space. They offer parking in order to getting in or out you would have to ask others to move their cars.
The staff was a combination, some very kind others not so much.
Sadly, this hotel is located at the center of the city and is the best option for visitors who don’t want to stay at a lodge.
