Detailed Reviews
We spent the night at hotel Skulagardur and we had a good time. The lamb at the restaurant was devine and the vegan salted caramel cake was on another level. Very cozy and quiet. We especially liked Jonie who works at the reception. We wil deffenitely come back soon.

Lovely hotel remodelled from a school built in the 1950s. Great quality of materials, beautifully preserved building with a character. A lot of light.
Room was clean and comfy, shower was stocked and hairdryer was available.
Well-functioning WIFI, decent breakfast (incl. omelette, which is rare for countryside hotels in Iceland). Overall - good experience.
A few negatives:
1. We seemingly got the last available room, which was the closest one to the kitchen/common hall, which translated into a lot of noise in the evening.
2. Toiletries were not adequate (it was a single dispenser and we didn't quite trust the contents of it).

Small rooms, only their restaurant for kms. Dinner was excellent, breakfast standard. Nice place to drive the Eastern fjord or gullfoss and then relax. Breakfast included if you reserve online with them, not included with booking. Com

The hotel is far from towns and restaurants. You will be forced to use their services. The site has a lot of choice but there are actually few dishes available. Although there is a common area it is not possible to have your own meals. There is no one at night. In case of problems you will have to wait for the next morning, after 7.30. The breakfast is poor. The rooms are clean but small. The value for money is not valid.

Great location close to Ásbyrgi and not that far away from other northern attractions. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast and they offer dinner as well. Comfortable beds, clean and quiet rooms with nice bathroom. A lot of place to park your car. Also pretty nice views around.

A typical Icelandic hotel with basic, clean rooms, lost in the countryside. Average dinner and breakfast. Reasonable price.
The dining room is a little bit shabby, but less expensive than many others.

+1
We stayed here at this old school on Tuesday 3rd October 2023,we had been to see Dettifoss waterfall nearby, and then we had a lovely meal at nearby Veggur Restaurant then 5 minutes later we arrived here at this Hotel. We checked in with Leonardo,an Italian guy,and we stayed in room 15 which is outside at the rear in a chalet type room, decent sized room with twin beds, wardrobe and bathroom with shower.Breakfast is served in a large school hall dining room and is a buffet style and very tasty. There are more rooms on an inside corridor from this dining room and there's a small bar in reception and a comfy communal lounge. We found the WiFi worked fine in the lounge/dining area but not so good in our outside chalet.Nice hotel different.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. Shower was great and the towels were very soft.
Staff were friendly and accommodating. Had a wonderful chat with the proprietor, who told me that she just took over this inn in May and she used to go to school here! It was a school until the late 80s.
Best atmosphere out of the 4 hotels we have stayed in so far during our trip around Iceland.

Our room was very comfy and the views vast and beautiful.
The meal of Arctic char delicious! Nothing fancy in the meal, but everything was perfectly prepared.
Too bad that we had such a short stay because it would be a great place to enjoy the remoteness and beauty.

This is the second time I have written a review for this hotel, the first being back in 2014.
Located high up the Latitude scale is a hotel for those travellers who venture into the wonderful world that is Nrothern Iceland. Set back from the R85 road, and resembling farm buildings in the area, it can easily be missed. However, it’s well worth seeking out. As I note in the earlier review, make sure you have an accurate description of its location. I
The hotel is quite some distance from Kopasker and Husavik, both names of which appear in the address. Indeed, it is equidistant from these two towns.
We were a group of seven Australians spending several nights in the area in order to walk in the magnificent National Park close to Asbyrgi, and to explore some of the roads
that hug the coast. On the day we arrived, the wind was howling, and the Skulugardur Hotel was truly a refuge. The staff at Reception were most welcoming, and generously enabled us to check in at lunch time. I imagine that to be able to do this would depend on the departure time of previous guests.
We chose to be in the section with en-suite facility. The rooms are of good size, with terrific views from some of the rooms across the river, and into the distance towards the Arcric Sea. There are numerous power-points in the room, plenty of wardrobe space and chairs, a desk, and good black-out curtains. The bathroom taps produce wonderfully hot water, the showers work well, and the towels are of a very good size. Whilst the mattresses are comfortable, I prefer smooth cotton for sheets and pillowcases, rather than the textured material used. I would also add a towel rack in the bathroom. These cost very little to purchase, but without one, towels need to be slung over the shower rail, or the backs of chairs. A small bar of soap would also be a useful addition; I know that few hotels include soap in this format these days, but it’s a personal preference.
The attached restaurant provides very good meals. These are served in a large, bright room, with one wall comprising a wall with terrific views. The menu is limited in the number of options on offer, and I regard that as a good sign. There are two dishes that stand out: the lamb fillet and the Arctic Charr. The only thing missing from these dishes were some vegetables other than salad. Visit a local supermarket, and you will find the full range of vegetables seen in most Western countries. I would encourage restaurants to take advantage of this, and to serve some alternatives to the Icelandic standards of capsicum, lettuce, cucumber and sometimes tomato. Lamb dishes are very expensive in Iceland, but if you haven’t tried Icelandic lamb, do. It’s magnificent. Breakfasts at the hotel provide a comprehensive range of the usual offerings.
The hotel very kindly let us wash some clothes in the laundry, and to use their clothesline. Do check out this clothesline. If the wind is blowing, your clothes will get an airing like they have never had before.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Skulugardur Hotel.
