Clean well appointed cottages on the Mira River Cape Breton. We stayed for three nights and were the only ones on the property.
The only drawbacks were:
Slow wifi
On-site restaurant not operating
Bed sagged quite a bit in the middle
Blinds didn’t close but we were alone
My partner booked this cabin with Eva on the phone, she was pleasant and helpful. We would consider staying here again

We stayed for 4 nights in early July 2023. Everything was great. The owners were very friendly and helpful, but never intrusive. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The AC was nice and cold, bed was comfortable, bathroom was large and modern. Beautiful, quiet, spread out from other cabins, deer roaming the fields... After a very busy week trying to cover Newfoundland, it was the perfect place to park ourselves for a few days and see Cape Breton.

Clean, relaxed & peacefully place near capot Trail, Sydney and Louisburg. The chalet had everything we needed and was swissness clean. Big bathroom and bedroom. A place to sit outside and a private deck for swimming in the Mira river 3 minutes ago. We enjoyed our stay, sleep well and in middle of the nature.

We booked the two bedroom cottage for a trip with two couples. A week before our trip, we received an e-mail from the owner stating that our reservation was being changed and we were being moved into two motel rooms. I called the owner to see what the problem was and she stated that they had found people who would stay longer so we were bumped into the motel! This is such poor customer service. Our vacation was pre-booked and we had a confirmation. Don't rely on your bookings here as they can be changed if the owner finds a better deal. We cancelled.

I was told about this property by my aunt and uncle who are friends of the owners. It was a convenient location as it was only minutes away from our family gathering. Upon entering the grounds, you notice that this may not be a suitable establishment for families travelling with children. The lane way to the main lodge is named "Jack Daniels Drive". One side lane is named "Captain Morgan Way". Also evident is the lack of children’s' play structures. If you are looking for a getaway from the kids, this may be your place. The property is well kept and the buildings are newly renovated on the outside. An addition to the main lodge hosts a quilt shop. The restaurant is also located here. We did not eat any meals onsite so I cannot offer up a review. The owner greeted us in with a friendly welcome upon our arrival. Because it was the start of the holiday season, we had the place to ourselves making it a very quiet, peaceful stay. Our cabin was a two bedroom separated by the bathroom. Amenities are limited so it is wise to bring your own. One small sliver of soap is just enough to wash your hands, not for a shower. The shower is small. Not enough room for any large individual, but the water was hot and plentiful. A note to mention was when we asked for a change of towels, we were told to hang them on the line strung outside on the porch. We did as instructed without complaint. However upon our arrival later that day, we discovered the towels were exchanged for fresh ones. To summarize, a very peaceful, and scenic property with no frills. Don't expect too much in the way of extras, but also keep in mind the price of accommodation is reasonable. There is a guest book for review on the property website and the guests who have stayed their previously have had favorable comments. I would go back there and would recommend this to any adults travelling without children.

The Mira River Cottages and Riverbank Restaurant are 4 km from Marion Bridge, located between Louisbourg and Sydney. We spent three nights on the Mira using a cottage as a base to explore Cape Breton. The cottages and restaurant are clustered several hundred yards from the river with no river views, with a walking trail down to the Mira. We took the two BR Chateau Cottage, with a very large living/dining area, full bath with tub, fully equipped and well provisioned kitchen, spacious high ceilings. The quality of construction of the cottage was first rate and the housekeeping was fastidious. We paid $150 a night plus tax. The owners were most genial hosts. Highly recommended!
Hint1: Two canoes available down on the Mira. We saw a family of 7 loons just off the launch. Head up river for 1 km or so, crossing to the other side for more interesting shoreline.
Hint2: Enjoy the on premises Riverbank Restaurant for evening meals. The full dinner was great and reasonably priced – outstanding Swiss German specialities and delicious pies. The seafood chowder was delicious, loaded with fish and scallops. A much better bet than the tourist traps in Louisbourg.
Hint3: If you are passing down the MarconiTtrail from Glace Bay to Louisbourg , go for lunch at the Dock your Dory Restaurant in Port Morien. Beautiful views of a nice inlet, with excellent food at decent prices. We had the maple salmon, haddock special, fish cakes with baked beans, and fish chowder. All were delicious. Baked beans were the best that we have ever had.
Hint4: If you are cooking in your cottage, please be advised that good fresh local seafood is surprisingly hard to find. We heard (after the fact) that one can obtain fish from a wholesaler up in Glace Bay and snow crabs from a wholesaler down in Louisbourg. Could not confirm personally.

Found this hidden gem on the Internet and we were delighted to discover it lived up to everything it promised. Our home base for a week long vacation in the area. Very clean and peaceful two-bedroom cottage. Other cottages nearby on the property but still offered plenty of quiet and privacy. Plenty of local wildlife including chipmunks, hares and hummingbirds. Short walk down the trail to the wharf where you can take the canoe out for a spin on the lake. Riverbank Restaurant is right onsite and operated by the Swiss-born owners. Fantastic Swiss specialties including Schnitzel and Rosti at very reasonable prices. Yum! Would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a real getaway spot still very central to Sydney, Louisburg, etc.

I love this place. Have stayed here before and it is very tranquil. The owners couldn't be more helpful and give you lots of space. The cabins are in excellent shape and kept in wonderful condition. It also has a restaurant open Wed-Sunday. The food is tasty and filling. Will be back.

It was getting cold (late September) when we finished visiting Louisburg on Cape Breton Island. The campgrounds were all closed. It was dark when we finally rolled into the gravel driveway of the Mira River Cottages, but the lady of the place was waiting for us. The cabins are cute, solid, well-equipped and warm. Each has a wood stove in addition to baseboard heat. Firewood is neatly stacked at the main house for the taking. With a large living area, fully-equipped kitchen, and cozy bedrooms, it was the kind of place one would not want to leave.
When we did leave the next day, I noticed the beautiful scenery of the Mira River that gives this place its name. Worth the detour to find it.

Room Tip: There are multi-unit houses, which they call "motel" rooms, and stand-alone cottages....

This family run resort is about 25 minutes south of Sydney and a good base for touring around the east side of Cape Breton. The grounds and cottages are beautifully maintained. It's a relaxed environment and we appreciated that it was whistle clean and very quiet in the area. As the cottages were fully booked, we stayed in one of the two guest suites. It was unfortunate that we had two single beds rather than one but that wasn't a big deal. There was a fridge, toaster, kettle and coffee maker but no cooking facilities and no restaurants in the area for breakfast so be sure to take something along. There is an onsite restaurant open for dinner Friday to Sunday and we enjoyed a very good meal there one night. We would certainly stay here again in future.

"There are multi-unit houses, which they call "motel" rooms, and stand-alone cottages. All very nice, but the "motel" rooms are more economical, and farther back from the river."

"Apparently the cottages are preferred becuase the walls are thin and not sound proof in the motel section."
