We absolutely love this place! Could we give this a 6 star rating? The location was incredible - nestled amongst maple trees and next to a clear gushing stream. Food was very enjoyable and we had a very helpful Japanese lady assigned to look after us during our stay. Even though we did not speak Japanese, the staff was very accommodating and tried their best to assist. The hot springs were wonderful. Top location and excellent food! Highly recommended. The only drawback is the cost.

The service and accommodations were absolutely spot on and terrific. We would highly recommend and stay here again. The private onsens were terrific and in great locations to see the river gorge. The kaiseki style cuisine was absolutely great and was paced correctly.

Whole family of mine expects to visit every year this authentically Japanese style spa-hotel. The rooms are conpact but enough spacious with Tatami mat section and wester beds. The private natural hot spring bath tub will ease your brain and stiff body, taking daily life stress off. I go there to get myself melted.
The restaurant has art working foods with much seasonality.
If I point out my suggestion, it needs wider choices from the wine list.

We stayed at this hotel based upon my friend's recommendation. It is perfect in all aspects, particularly in service, food and 4 private onsens. You need to use iPad to make a reservation for free private onsens. Our room overlooks the river and it offers a good view as well. This is our #1 during our 2 weeks trip in Japan. Our #2 is Kukuna at Lake Kawaguchiko which offers world class Mt. Fuji and lake view.

Asebino was pretty much perfect. The other reviews have captured it quite well so I won't repeat them but add a few points of my own.

We are a family of three. I speak decent Japanese. We visited in late March, about a week late for the spring blooms in Kawazu.

First of all, I do recommend visiting only if you are with someone who speaks Japanese pretty well. This is not super easy to get to, and you may need to navigate buses and directions to get there. It is not super easy to get to either. Not terrible, but I could imagine it being difficult if you didn't speak any Japanese.

I didn't really understand until I went how a place could cost so much. After staying, I get it. The amount of work that goes into your stay is pretty amazing. Doing the dishes alone must cost a fortune!

The staff were super helpful and friendly, even by Japanese standards.

The food was beautiful and delicious. They were accommodating to our daughter, who did her best to be adventurous but, well, wasn't up to the task of eating 100 bites of things she had never seen before.

There is a lot to do around there but most of it is accessed by bus or car.

It was a perfect experience.
