Wild Bear Lodge (formerly Grizzly Bear Ranch) is a small, specialised wilderness lodge about halfway between Vancouver and Calgary. We are located in the world’s only inland temperate rainforest, a vast hideaway of ancient mountains, old-growth trees, and fast-flowing rivers. We offer some of the most exciting and natural bear-viewing, nature and wilderness holidays in north America, against a backdrop of some of western Canada’s most dramatic terrain.

We'd unreservedly recommend Wild Bear Lodge to anyone wanting to immerse themselves in learning 'first hand' about wildlife in natural, stunning surroundings. A wonderful experience where Kristin and Julius lead by example. The result? - very highly qualified staff who are knowledgeable, patient and good humoured. Every one of them! - accommodation which reflects the thoughtfulness of the owners, in its style, setting and small touches - each day full to the brim with appropriate, differentiated activity where accommodation is not just about where you sleep. It's about accommodating everyone's abilities and interest. - take a bow Kim and Kristin, the food was as plentiful, enticing and as fresh as the surroundings The list is endless. For me, personally I appreciated the understanding of everyone at Wild Bear Lodge that this is a significant commitment for those visiting. Every moment was well thought out, brilliantly delivered and most importantly, enjoyable and fun from start to finish. Glyn & Paula

After an hours drive from Kaslo we arrived at GBR and greeted by the owners who, from the beginning of our stay until our sad goodbyes at the end of 4 days, made us feel so welcome, looking after us impeccably with excellent accommodation, delicious meals and plenty to drink! Not only Julius & Kristin but the whole team made the time spent, not only at the Ranch, but also out in the wilderness so informative, interesting and exciting. Paramount to everything was our safety and enjoyment. We came to see and observe bears and luckily we did - but there was so much more. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience, one we will never forget and certainly we will talk about for a long time to come.

The 4 days itinerary was brilliantly planned. The activities were well paced for all abilities. The guides were experts and enthusiastic about the flora and fauna. The food and hospitality was excellent.

I can’t speak highly enough about our Grizzly Bear Ranch experience . The first night is spent in a lovely old world hotel and we were treated so well by the hotel staff . The second day we travelled about an hour to the ranch which is so beautiful right on a river and the cabins are warm and cozy . I have injuries that restricted my walking but Julius made sure I had my own guide Graham aka Packrat to check out a new area by 4WD whilst my wife and the others in our group went into the alpine areas. I was happy they all saw bears . Julius and Kristen really went out of their way to accomodate me . Kristen made sure I had hot water and milk for 4 am coffee as I am a very early riser . The food was beyond my expectations and my thanks to Kim and Kristen for their efforts . Julius and Kristen make their own home a warm and inviting place for meals and videos of the trail cameras which are quite amazing to see the amount of wildlife that use the same trails we were walking . If you love a wilderness experience and warm hospitality then Grjzzly Bear Ranch is the place to experience both . Our heart felt thanks to Julius and Kristen for a wonderful 4 days of attentive hospitality. You guys really do try to accomodate each guest individually and as a group James and Annie from Aussie land

We've just returned from a fantastic 4 day stay at this wonderful place. I cannot speak highly enough of Julius and his lovely wife Kristen, they made us feel so very welcome. They have a remarkable team of equally enthusiastic people around them. Kim the cook and the Guides, Sage, Graham and Oscar. We were so lucky to have them with us during our stay. Between them, what they didn't know about the local wildlife, fauna and flora I guess you could write on a postage stamp! The accommodation and food were simply brilliant. Your every need catered for, down to a torch, binoculars etc ready for you in your cabin, not to mention the bottle of wine waiting for you! Our wood burning stove was freshly laid each morning when we were out, ready to light as soon as we returned from our adventures. I wish I could simply retire there and enjoy the company of such dedicated, interesting and genuinely lovely people. Thank you so much. It is definitely our intention to return!
