Detailed Reviews
Beate and Lothar go out of their way to provide an exceptional experience at the Bread and Butter Inn. From the moment we reserved our room, Beate was available to answer any questions we might have with a friendly and gentle manner. She and her husband Lothar are perhaps the kindest hosts we have ever met and we felt like we were staying with family.
The house itself is breathtaking both inside and out with lovely decorative touches and a home-away-from-home feel. You can see Beate's gorgeous taste shine through the entire house.
Our ensuite room was lovely, overlooking the garden and it was very tranquil. Beate provides some nice extras in the washroom such as wipes and a hairdryer which were greatly appreciated.
The breakfast was "Michelin Star" quality was a selection of choices on the menu. We had our breakfast overlooking the garden each morning.
There are great spots for adventure in the local area. We visited Huntsville, Dwight Beach and hiked in Algonquin. My only complaint was that I couldn't stay for longer!

We have stayed in several places in the Lake of Bays / Dorset area over the years and the Bread and Butter Inn was the best. It's a bed and breakfast with beautifully styled and modernized rooms. The shared facilities are spacious and cozy at the same time. The owners are so lovely and since a former chef is providing breakfast you'll be spoiled (have the French toast!) Highly recommended.

Gorgeous views from every angle, sparkling clean and modernized bathrooms (includes a 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner, a body soap, as well as hand soap and lotion bottles by the sink), a very comfort filled environment with the fluffiest pillows that ensures you sleep like a baby! Beate, Lothar, and Lily treated us like there own children and constantly checked in to see how we were, and where we were exploring and gave us advice since we had never been to Dorset before and we had the absolute best time of our lives! But I would have to say, one of the absolute best parts of The Bread And Butter B&B was the breakfast. The variety, the quality, everything was always exceeding our expectations every single time we sat down to eat, it was definitely our experience of heaven on earth! Another one of the best parts is that the incredible hosts would always do whatever they could to accommodate to our wishes(for example, one evening we asked if we could have a fire outside and it was ready for us within a blink of an eye!). We will definitely make our trip to The Bread And Butter B&B annual!

We had a great stay at the Bread and Butter Inn and felt like we were at home. 🙂
The rooms are cozy and tastefully decorated and everything is very clean. The bed was just amazing and we had a hard time getting up in the morning. 😀
Beate and Lothar are so friendly and warm. You can't help but feel at home there. They had lots of tips for us and opened up their whole house to us (book corner, sauna, garden with badminton, table tennis, barbecue area...). We could even have taken a boat ride on the lake, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time.
The amazing breakfast is particularly worth mentioning. You get everything your heart desires and special requests are no problem at all. It is freshly prepared with lots of love.
Dorset is a cute little town with a small center right on the water and a very good shop where you can find everything you need. Algonquin Park is 30 minutes away by car.
We can only warmly recommend a stay at the Bread and Butter Inn and we would be happy to come back on our next trip to Canada. ❤️

Hospitality "par excellence". Everything was like new. A very comfortable, exceptionally clean, quiet, well appointed room … all in a lovely, pristine house with beautiful gardens. Full, expertly cooked breakfast prepared "as we like it"… when we like it! Thank you Beate for a thoroughly fine B&B experience. We highly recommend the Bread & Butter Inn … it is a true Muskoka gem.

Labour Day weekend 2020. My Lady and I had ridden 180 miles on our motorcycles to the outskirts of Algonquin Park for the weekend, only to find out our reservations, on my credit card, at a motel I won't name, never kept them! Claimed they didn't even have them! After calling around, the owners at Bread And Butter said if we couldn't find anywhere else (on a long weekend!!), they had a pullout couch we could sleep on in the office. Shortly after, we took them up on it. Turned out to be a miracle! Ya, it was a pull out couch (which was in a den/office so it was nice!), so we didn't get to use the rooms, but the hospitality and awesome meals more than made uip for it! Beate and Lothar made us feel like we were with family through their friendly personalities and hospitality. Their friend and cook, whose name escapes me, provided both a 5 star dinner and breakfast! We got in around 9pm, and because the family who wasn't going to eat but were now hungry, and the other couple that showed up late were all hungry, Beate decided to offer us all a late dinner. Chicken breast you could cut with a spoon, roasted baby potatoes and 5 or 6 fresh veggies blew my mind. Breakfast was a combination of meat lovers and healthy alternatives combined. I would not hesitate to stay here again! It was well worth it!!!

The house was beautiful, as were the gardens, the rooms well appointed, clean and welcoming, our hosts friendly and accommodating, and the breakfasts wonderful. Perhaps the greatest part was that Beate and her colleagues were friendly, gracious hosts, and would do whatever they could to accommodate our wishes. Bread and Butter is a B&B, not an inn, so it does not provide full meal service, but, if asked and if they could, then they would provide lunch or dinner. We had lunch for two , and dinner for seven (including three small children)---the food was made as requested in advance, wonderfully prepared, and reasonably priced. This makes it also the best restaurant in the area. We will be back.

We recently stayed 3 nights. What a fantastic stay!! Beds & pillows were comfy, everything was spotless and the breakfast was to die for!! We loved watching the hummingbirds during breakfast.
The inn is centrally located - close to numerous lakes for paddling.
We will definitely be back. Thanks to Beate, Lily and Lucy for your wonderful breakfast and company during our stay.

We just returned from a 3-night stay at the Bread and Butter Inn, and we have nothing but good things to say about our experience. Beate and Lothar were extremely friendly and hospitable. Our room was very nice and clean, and our bed was super comfortable! The breakfasts were all very tasty - would definitely recommend the pancakes and the eggs benedict! We also purchased an additional dinner at the B&B, which was equally exceptional. We will definitely be back!!

Just spectacular! Stayed here for a couple nights on a trip to Algonquin. Everything is sparkling clean (bathroom, shower, bedroom), the rooms outfitted wonderfully, the breakfast the absolute best! Beate & Lothar were incredible hosts, responsive to all needs and requests, going the extra mile to ensure we were comfortable. Great value! If anything, our stay here (and the breakfasts) were the highlight of the trip!
