Don't get fooled from your agent and ask in advance the name of the hostel when booking the 2d/1n colca canyon tour (another big dissapointment). Smelly rooms with no amenitiea and NO WATER at all during the morning. Breakfast was a joke. Rude hostess. STAY AWAY.

Geboekt in Arequipa.

This was part of a Colca Canyon 2D/1N package (80 PEN p/p for transport to/from Arequipa, hotel and guided tour - so pretty cheap really!) we booked while in Arequipa. Unfortunately we hadn't been given a choice of hotels, otherwise we would have certainly paid more for a different option! Anyway, onto the room..... the roof was in need of a bit of TLC, with plaster peeling off in quite a few places. I'd highly recommend that before jumping into bed, you turn off the lights so you don't see the state of the sheets. We stayed in our clothes when sleeping just to be safe. It was pretty cold (not unexpected at this time of year in Chivay) and the bed did at least have a rug. I decided to take a nice, hot shower before going out to dinner however after 5 minutes the water still wasn't warming up. I popped downstairs to catch the lady looking after reception and we worked out that they need to turn it on. OK, no worries... once that was done, the water flow improved greatly and I did have a nice hot shower at least! (one thing you will come to appreciate when travelling around Peru, especially outside the main towns) Breakfast was very basic, just 2 small bread rolls with some butter/jam and a very horrid tasting juice. It looked like orange, but not sure exactly what it was! The internet here was horrible too, the WiFi signal was great but the connection to the world wasn't. Having spoken to people who stayed in much nicer accommodation in Chivay they also said the same, so it's more or less a result of the location of Chivay and the fact that connections go out via satellite. Basically, don't count on using the internet in Chivay!
