We chose a mid-range hotel on a two day tour from Arequipa to Puno with Class Tours of Arequipa. This was a decent 3 star hotel. It was walking distance from the centre of the small, cute town of Chivay. Our rooms were bright, clean and reasonably spacious. A small heater was provided. The bed was comfortable with plenty of bedding. The bathroom was not convenient with nowhere to put toiletries but there was hot water, although it was necessary to waste 3 minutes of water before it arrived. The lady in charge had limited English but was helpful. The included breakfast was fruit salad with scrambled eggs, bread, butter, jam and coffee. Coca tea was free in the lobby.
Big room and bathroom. In fact the whole place was enormous. Very helpful and friendly and well located. It was early in the season, so the hotel was nearly empty but I can imagine that it must be lively, when full.
I give Hotel Nativa my very highest recommendation. I have stayed in a number of hotels in South America and Mexico and only in Hotel Nativa did I find genuine human warmth and concern for my welfare, especially when I fell sick with a very bad cold. All members of the Hotel Nativa staff are warm, caring human beings that do their utmost to make sure one's stay in Chivay is pleasant and worry-free. Maria Elena, the owner, is a wonderful person. Should a problem, not matter how small, arise, talk to her. She will solve all problems, big and small--immediately. I should mention, too, that the showers are first class with limitless hot water. There are also space heaters in all rooms. Both of these amenities will be deeply appreciated, especially after the sun goes down in Chivay. Where should you stay in Chivay? Hotel Nativa. It's the best place I have stayed during my extensive travels throughout Latin America.…
The hotel was reasonably clean but don't expect too much. Decent value for your money. Rooms are cold (August) and walls very thin. Breakfast was meaner, just a few rolls, scant meat and cheese. The bed was okay and bathroom adequate.
I've just finished a five night stay at Hotel Nativa: a beautiful and traditionally sophisticated hotel in the quite part of Chivay (5 minutes walk to the main plaza). The rooms were nice, the breakfast gourmet - a fruit platter, eggs, olives, meat, cheese and bread. Most of all the host Maria was always friendly and helpful. The price was very good too...
