Everyone who goes to cabanaconde, goes for hiking and trekking and are often not used to the climate. The hotel took this not into account. It states to have hot showers, but it definately doesn't. Also the night was rather cold with thin blankets. We understand that there are no heaters in the area, but please give some extra blankets. Lastely they charged money per luggage piece per day, which is not trekking friendly.
Room dirty, charged 3 Soles to leave your back pack (Bullsh1t) after staying there, towels looked dirty, small room, dogs bothering us while eating & guys behind the bar think that’s Ok, manager is very controlling,
Villa Pastor is located in Cabanaconde’s main square. The room was quite small and simple. The water is hot but wifi is not really working. We went for a two trekking and they charge us 12 S to keep our luggage. You can find a better place.
We stayed there one night before hiking in the Colca Canyon. The first room they showed us had two beds but the mattresses were totally saggy. They showed us another room with two beds. One of them was ok, so we went for this one. The bedsheets were quite dirty so we asked them to change them, no problem they did. The “new” ones were okish but if you’re looking for clean sheets you wouldn’t be happy. Then the next problem, they could not find the keys for this room, they tried countless keys until they had to install a new lock at the end (we went out and they promised to be finished when we’re back). Problem with the new lock: it didn’t fit properly so with slightly pushing the door you could just open it. The WiFi was very slow which was understandable because it worked with a satellite connection but annoyingly they changed the password several times a day. Even though there were three power outlets in the room only one was working. When we went for the hike they tried to charge us for the luggage storage even though they told us we can leave it for free. In the end we didn’t have to pay for it but we meet another couple where they tried the same. Also note there is neither toilet paper nor soap in the bathroom. We don’t have high standards but one night there was more than enough. …
The hostel is well located, we really enjoyed having our breakfast on the terrace and watching the bustling Cabanaconde's main square. The breakfast was actually the nicest part – eggs, bread, fresh jugo... The architecture of our room (top floor, three beds, bathroom ensuite) was slightly bizarre with many obscure details but that didn't really bother us. Worse was the bathroom that smelled quite bad and didn't seem clean. Also the towels smelled more like cowshed than detergent. But the staff was super friendly and for one night stay it was just sufficient. And I noticed a sign saying that they charge three soles per day for baggage storage. I don't know if they really do but just a heads up in case you wanted to use this place as a base before trekking to Colca.
