We (a couple plus dog) stayed here for 2 nights in the beginning of August and we really enjoyed our stay. Needless to say that the location is gorgeous! It was wonderful to wake up in the morning and look out of the window at the Rhine. The room itself was small, but very clean and cozy, with a big and modern bathroom and a great shower. They even provided a doggy bed and some snacks, which was a nice touch. The restaurant where breakfast is served is beautiful, but the food is pretty basic: some buns, fried eggs, cheese and jam, granola and so on. So, good, but nothing super amazing. I took one star less because of the sleep quality, there is a railroad next to the castle and the trains get pretty loud, but I'm a light sleeper, my husband didn't mind it that much. They also have pictures and names of their ancestors (I assume) on the walls, which I found to be a very cool idea. I'm not sure if we'll be back again, but I can certainly recommend it, it's a nice experience to sleep and dine in a castle.…
The castle is self guided which is good and bad. You can go at your own pace and take pictures but there is no way to ask questions or read more info about things. I cannot recommend the restaurant for lunch. Three cold entree items on the menu and kind of pricey at that.
It was our wedding night! I am locally from the area but my husband and I live abroad so we wanted a comfortable room for the wedding night after all the excitement of the wedding day. First of all, they made absolutely no concession or an upgrade for a couple booking their wedding night with the hotel. We got a small room for the usual price, no warm welcome or some sort of package deal (that by the way any other hotel we stayed in did for us once they found out we are newlywed and on our honeymoon!). Two days before the wedding I came down to talk to the lady at reception about a late check in seeing that it was hard to know what time we would arrive. They have no night porter and didn’t give us any option as to leaving a key somewhere for us or letting us check in early (I.e. on the morning of the wedding day). Instead the lady at reception told me “why don’t you send your maid of honour down to collect the key? That’s what they’re there for!” Highly unprofessional as my maid of honour isn’t driving and they’re not exactly an easy to reach hotel by public transport or on foot. I had to send one of my guests of our wedding party down to check us in and pick up the key and she missed nearly two hours of the party due to this unprofessional behaviour. Seeing that this hotel organises weddings all the time you should expect they have a better idea of what to offer guests that are spending the best days of their lives with them. On arrival in the hotel we found the room clean but small. I had booked the Rhine river view room on purpose, extremely annoyed to find that the only window in the room did not look out on the river but on the parking lot where at the far end of the horizon you could make out 10 cm of Rhine river view!! What a disgrace! Not even a note to say congratulations. The next morning at 8:30am the cleaning lady tried to get in our room for servicing and woke us up. There was no late check out option for us anyhow so it wasn’t too bad to get up this early. By the time we went down for breakfast it was 9:30 and there was nearly nothing left on the buffet. Small and limited options as it had it was only continental breakfast there was nothing on offer like scrambled eggs or anything. We had to ask for fresh bread rolls as the buffet was nearly emptied out and the one waitress we found was obnoxious and annoyed at us arriving so “late” for breakfast. We had to ask for coffee and she brought us two small cups. There was only a couple of slices of cheese left, and some yogurt and jam. We paid 25€ extra to have B&B included in the room rate and it was an outrage! sad to say we started our married life in the worst place possible, we checked out long before 11 am and thankfully we got much better service and accommodation standards during the rest of our honeymoon. Seriously disappointed that in the region of bingen, the town I grew up in, this is the “best” address we have. I cannot Support any of the excellent reviews I’ve read beforehand and am sad to say they didn’t even care about it when I dropped the keys off, no questions asked as to how our stay was. You can do better, Bingen and Trechtingshausen! Our accommodations in Africa on our honeymoon were more spacious and welcoming and friendly than this hotel.…
Newly renovated beautiful rooms in a castle built over 1000 years ago. Great price, very comfortable. Friendly staff, great view of the Rhein River. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare as tourists of the castle take up the very small parking lot. We would stay here again!
This place was such a treat! It's in a great location - right near Bingen to start the boat trip up the Rhine, and by Bacharach which has more restaurants and is the quintessential quaint town. The accommodations were lovely - we had a large room overlooking the river. Our room was very modern, and the bed was quite comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful for a very reasonable price too. Plus, how often do you get to actually stay overnight in a castle?
