I've had one of the most positive first impressions while traveling. I live in NYC and it was finally time to visit Shelter Island, which I had never been to. There aren't many inns and bed & breakfasts on the island. What you find is usually overpriced lodging, especially at this time of year. I had been chasing availability for a few nights and I decided to call House on Chase Creek directly. I spoke with the owner, Bill, who is a friendly native of Shelter Island and knows everything about the area. He promptly managed to accommodate me for a few weeknights, even though he was booked solid. I told him I needed a few days to relax, peace and quiet. Well, that's exactly what I got! To make it even a more enjoyable stay, which was a pleasant surprise, the Inn is in what appears to be the best location in Shelter Heights. I went without any means of transportation, solely relying on my foot. Fairly close to the ferry. Never got tired of walking around. Had breakfast at the charming nearby harbor, went to Crescent Beach (Sunset Beach) by foot, via a picturesque walk near a golf course. Had amazing seafood for dinner. All within walking distance. If you are truly fit you could explore more the island on foot, however, a good mountain bike would be more appropriate. A car is useful to, of course, so you can explore a bit further and also north and south fork of Long Island (even chichi East Hampton and Montauk nearby). One of the best parts of my stay was the swing on the porch and just relaxing near the creek, few steps from the Inn. I highly recommend staying in the main suite on the ground floor with the fireplace (which I never used but plan during a stay around fall). There's a nice solarium where Bill set a breakfast/dining room with utensils, fresh water, minifridge, and microwave so you can bring your own food and have meals there. Everything you need. I will definitely return to House on Chase Creek. Thank you Bill for your kind hospitality!…
This was our second stay at the House on Chase Creek. Awesome room with a beautiful view of Creek. In walking distance to some great restaurants. A great place to spend a relaxing getaway from the daily grind. Quite, clean and reasonably priced. Check it out and you will be glad you did.
We had no idea what to expect, but upon arrival we immediately were smitten with this house. The host was very friendly and helpful and the house just exudes old time rooming house. Each room has an excellent bathroom, comfy beds and plenty of space. I can't recommend it enough, especially for the price.
We just got back from a long weekend at this wonderful B&B. The House on Chase Creek is a hidden gem on the island. The inn is beautifully maintained and our room was extremely clean. Our host, Bill, was very attentive and gave us great suggestions of things to do on our first visit to Shelter Island. He even set up the fireplace in our room for us every night so all we had to do was light a match and enjoy. The location is very peaceful yet still walking distance to restaurants. We enjoyed cocktails while soaking up the tranquility in the Adirondack chairs at the creek’s edge. I can’t say enough good things about Bill and his wonderful B&B. We were planning a return trip before we even left!
Great small inn located near the North Ferry in front of a lovely pond. The rooms were well-appointed with nice linens and a large comfy bed. The wifi was strong. I appreciated the free tea and coffee available all day long. The innkeeper was very friendly. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer. I highly recommend it.
