Impossible to rate this lodge high enough to represent the personalized, consistently excellent quality of the service provided by the staff at this lodge.

Food is incredible. I couldn’t keep up with all the food and drinks provided. The quality of the food is as good as it gets.

This lodge makes you feel like you have chartered a luxury yacht and the staff is there to serve all your needs. And every person is always ready to get you whatever you need with a pleasant smile.

I can’t express my appreciation for how good I felt staying at the lodge. After a week I did not want to leave.

I also did activities every day. By the end of the trip I experienced:

Whales
Waterfalls
Salmon Fishing - caught multiple fish and kept a couple.
Dolphins
Helicopter glacier tour
paddle boarding on the river on the glacier!
Black Bear sighting
Hundreds of Eagles eating at the Hake Buffet
Jet Boat - Devils hole
Seals
Sea Lions
Float Planes

I’d post some of the hundreds of photos i took, but the photos don’t do justice to the experience. It’s a must go.

The food, staff and resort are top notch. Trish has an excellent team, and they never drop the ball. Thanks to Lou, Herb, Jessica and Lisa for making us feel so special. The dinner we had at the grill was such a fun experience. Watching the talented chef, create those amazing dishes, was a highlight of our trip.

We arrived by boat a few days ago. The service in this place is excellent; whether it is the deck hands or staff in the restaurant. We had dinner reservation; food was great. I used sauna and gym; very clean and they are cleaned very often so I felt safe to use them (COVID-19!). Hiking trails are fun to go to. We also kayked, and of course watched the rapids in the Canoe passage. A great place to visit.

We ate at the Yaculta dining room. The Caprese salad was fresh and inventive, perfectly spliced.I ordered the crab and pasta ( $20 extra ). It was just that.A crab on top of pasta nothing else.Had I known I was to clean the crab myself I would have opted out.The crab itself was watery...I guess the season had passed, the utensils provided were not for cleaning crab. The waitress apologized. for that.
Im not sure what was going through the chef's mind when he created this dish but by the time one could clean even half the crab, the pasta would be cold. Not impressed.

Dent Island Lodge is owned by a prominent American family that use it frequently in the summer. The feel of the place is a that of a private retreat rather than a commercial establishment. The buildings are small, made of cedar, some in the log cabin style and blend into the natural setting. It is extremely popular with the boating community as Dent island is on the main route for boats going north to the Inside Passage. As a result reservations well in advance are highly recommended in July and August.

The facilities are first class, there is well equipped log cabin exercise room with a wonderful view. There is a Sauna and hot tub over looking Canoe Pass Rapids. Several log cabins with private deck and hot tubs are available for rent but we stayed on a boat in the marina so are unable to give details of the quality. Marina quests have access to all the public amenities including free wireless internet.

Dining:

The lodge offers a formal dining room with $95 fixed price menu. The wine list is extensive from $30 up. The service was wonderful, our server was a young school teacher taking the summer off before returning to teaching in Vancouver in the fall. The food is fresh - you select your menu items in the afternoon in advance, we ordered Dungerness crab and an hour later saw the live crabs being taken from the holding pots and cleaned! The food was presented attractively with attention to detail. All dinner quests are invited to the patio at 6pm for extensive complementary appetizers, a very pleasant way to relax with a predinner drink!

The highlight of our whole vacation was the 5 course tapas meal - $75 - The chef was excellent and he entertained us throughout the meal as he prepared the courses in front of us. In fact he gave impromptu lessons on the food preparation. The setting was magical as it is a covered deck overlooking canoe pass rapids, so ther was the sound of running water in the background throughout the meal

Activities:

The lodge has a fleet of modern fishing boats with professional guides. We saw several guests returning with 15 lb salmon but the "brag board" was full of "Tyee" catches - fish over 30 lb.

We went on a spectacular 1 hour jet boat tour with Justin the lodge manager. The rapids have to be treated with respect as the current runs up to 13 knots and have been the cause of many fatalities. The boat is state of the art with2 completely independent propulsion systems and is very safe, we got an up close appreciation of the whirlpools and overfalls and got to feed the bald eagles and seals fresh fish!

Transportation:

The lodge is serviced by fast water taxis from Campbell River on a regular basis. One such outfit is http://www.discoverylaunch.com/ You can also arrive by charter float plane or private boat. The docks are state of the art and can accommodate vessels over 150 feet long - one of these pulled in when we were there. Water, 30 and 50 amp power on the dock

In summary, Dent Island will be a regular stop on our trips through the islands

We are repeat visitors to Dent Island Lodge.Trish and her amazing staff always make us feel so welcome and provide such great service. The accommodations are very comfortable and the food is incredible! Three full meals are included if you are staying in the cabins and guests from the boats are welcome to enjoy the dining room for a fee.
If you go there try and arrange dinner one night down at the Rapids. It’s an outdoor kitchen that allows you to interact with the chef while he performs culinary magic! Seating is very limited, but I guarantee it’s an amazing evening if you go-
Also try to do the jet boat tour! What fun to zoom along on top of the rapids and if you are lucky you can get some great photos of eagles, seals and sea lions!
Your time at Dent Island Lodge will fly by and I bet like us, you’ll be planning your next visit even before you leave.

For boaters who cruise near the Campbell River area of British Columbia, you are well aware of the natural beauty that abounds and the wonderful locations for anchoring to enjoy that beauty. But there are times when you want a break -- you want a great meal, you want to be taken care of. This is where Dent Island Lodge shines. From the moment you pull up to the pier, everything is done for you. People are there waiting to tie your boat up as you saunter down to check in, where all major decisions -- including your dinner reservations, arrangements for fishing guides or jet boat rides are all handled cheerfully by one of Concierges. I mention cheerful because everyone we came in contact at Dent Island Lodge was smiling and friendly. From your initial check-in, all services are available to you just by giving your name.

The grounds of the lodge are beautifully landscaped, blending just the right amount of decorative plantings with the natural landscape. The walkways amble through the resort's buildings which are made of cedar, helping them to blend into the landscape. There is a sauna and outdoor jacuzzi in addition to a well-equipped gym which probably has the best views of any gym I've ever been in. The showers (something paid attention to very closely by boaters) were adequate, but probably could have been more plentiful given the number of boaters they get every day. They do have a scenic hiking trail (the Tugboat Trail) which walks you along the water through some pretty verdant forest. I would only recommend the trail to someone who is moderately active as the trail is narrow and has lots of twists and turns with a fair amount of maneuvering around rocks, large roots, etc.

The lodge itself is warm and inviting. There is a game room with a TV which provided us an opportunity to catch up on the Olympics. The bar/lounge provides a nice gathering place to enjoy some well-prepared cocktails and an impressive array of hors d'oeuvres to get you ready for dinner. Dinner is served both indoors and on a deck that gives you a panoramic view of the Cordero Strait and Canoe Pass rapids. The menu had an excellent variety of dishes and, in our group, everyone was thrilled with their selections. I had the whole Dungeness Crab with linguini. The crab was perfectly done -- tender, juicy, and very sweet. Frankly, the linguini was really secondary to me as the crab was a meal in itself -- especially after the large, tangy Caesar salad that came as a starter. My wife's lamb chops were equally excellent -- plentiful, tender, and cooked to perfection. The wine list was surprisingly large and diverse with a nice mix of BC and rest-of-world wines at reasonable prices. As a finish to a wonderful meal, the desserts were also excellent. I had the carrot cake. It was supposed to be a little less "calorie packed" because of the way they make their frosting, but if it was, you could have fooled me!

The next morning, I stopped by for breakfast and was equally impressed. The Continental Breakfast bar was well-stocked. I chose the Eggs Benedict with bacon which was served with home fries. In addition to a nice presentation, the hollandaise sauce was done just right, with a touch of spice to give it some tang. From there, I walked to the office for an equally efficient checkout and we were on our way with a lot of pleasant memories.

While we didn't go fishing or ride the jet boat, some other members of our group did. In the case of the salmon fishing, everyone caught a King which were then filleted, portioned, and vacuum packed for travel. We watched the jet boat doing "donuts" and then heading up the rapids. People onboard had a lot of fun and we look forward to that adrenaline rush the next time we visit.

An excellent restaurant tops the list of reasons for docking, anchoring, or staying at this beautiful and interesting lodge. Most guests are on boats (all charges are made to your boat's name). The lodge complex sits on two islets overlooking the tidal rapids to the east of Dent Island, which provides a fascinating scene several times a day as the big tides switch the rapids back and forth. There's a rugged 20 min hike north of the lodge, and there's an exercise room with a killer view. Marina staff are friendly and helpful, and they have great support for sport fishermen returning with they catch.
