This stay was by far the best ever for my family. I'm so thankful for the energy of the place, the level of care of every single detail and Maria and Thierry's ability to make us feel so much like every thing would be taken care of. Thierry spoke Spanish with us every chance he got, answered so many of our questions and made excellent recommendations to visit the neighboring town of San Juan La Laguna. They were all spot on. The food from the restaurant was delicious, fresh, and prepared to everyone's liking at every single meal. While it is a remote location (not for every type of family), I loved how kid friendly the staff was. I had my 4yo and my 5mo daughters and they both had an absolute blast. We hit the pool, the huge chess board, me and my husband got to sneak in a massage while the rest of my extended family all had a great time as well. Will definitely be coming back, either by myself or with my entire family again. We'll probably make it a yearly trip. Thanks again for an excellent stay.

My family (2 adults and 2 teenagers) stayed at the Lomas de Tzunuma and HIGHLY recommend it. The place is beautiful and incredibly well taken care of. The room was immaculate and all of the staff could not have been more gracious and attentive. The view is AMAZING. The food was delicious. And there is a lovely pool (with another incredible view) and a sauna, too. Many thanks especially to Alicia for the extra special attention. This is a magical place. The stairs are no joke, so just be forewarned. But my son managed to use it as a training opportunity. And the staff did all the hard work of transporting our bags.

Former UN peace negotiator Thierry has developed an eco-friendly getaway high above Lake Atitlan and isolated from the hustle and bustle of Panajachel. Rooms are clean and basic, with stunning views of the lake and volcanoes from private balconies. Everything has a view, including the pool and the dining room. Take some time to hear Thierry's stories of working to bring peace to Guatemala or to hear him sing. Take his advice on local villages and artists. Meals are fresh and feature local ingredients. Every meal was a treat. Yes, the hike up the stairs from the Lomas dock takes some energy. The alternative is to depart at the Tzununa town dock and take a tuk-tuk from there. It's all an adventure...with great food and a friendly staff.

I recently held a yoga retreat at Lomas de Tzununa. While I had been to the lake many times, this was my first visit to the hotel/retreat center. The photos don't do it justice. The views are spectacular from every room and the yoga shala (which is also fully stocked with mats and props). They've managed to provide modern amenities in an eco-friendly, simple sort of way. Every single one of the staff was super friendly and the food was delicious. They were able to meet all of the dietary needs of the group including vegetarians, dairy-free, and gluten-free. The owners were very hands-on from the preparation stage all the way through to the actual retreat. Thierry actually sang and played music with us and shared his firsthand experience working on the Peace Accords near the end of the civil war. I could go on and on, but I'll just say that I'm really looking forward to hosting future groups here!

I booked the hotel based on the reviews which talked about the views of the lake and they were definitely true - what an amazing view of the volcanoes and the lake! We took a private boat from Pana to the hotel dock and were super happy to see Andres (the spelling might be off) who came to help us with the luggage. The climb of ~350 steps is definitely worth it! The hotel was clean and quiet; good food at the restaurant where we ate dinner every night. While we did not meet Maria till our 2nd night at the hotel, the hotel helped us with getting a tuk-tuk to go to San Marcos for a coffee tour (highly recommend Shangrila Coffee Roastery). We ended up taking a relaxing walk from San Marcos back to the hotel, which took about an hour. One thing to keep in mind is that the water is heated naturally by the sun; therefore, if the nights are not very warm, you end up taking a very refreshing shower in the morning; so I'd recommend planning on having showers in the evening.

Hello thank you so much for this wonderful review and for your visit to Lomas de Tzununá. We enjoyed having you here!. Thank you also for the hot water this is not what should happen. Hot water has to stay hot all night. And there are books in each room and in them it is explained that if you have any challenge with hot water you have to let us know and we will change the plug to the other electricity. If people don´t tell us we cannot know, this is the reason for explaining in the books in the rooms. Hot water is always available solar or with the other electricity. Thank you!!!!

Get ready for some exercise! BUT please don't let the stairs scare you away, totally worth the effort. We enjoyed 3 nights Feb 2017 and look forward to returning. Thierry and Maria built this resort from scratch and proudly get involved as the customers wish. Maria is a masseuse and Reiki Master and provides services on site, I enjoyed a massage after a climb and it was quite awesome. Thierry arranged an adventurous climb for me. At breakfast Day1 I asked Thierry if he could arrange a climb up San Pedro to summit for sunrise. He said in 11 years no one had ever asked him and went through the logistics (I guess everyone climbs during the day which is unusual). He found a boat to meet me at the dock for 1am, a drive to the trailhead and a guide to climb all night through the jungle. We were the only ones on the volcano! I would also recommend an easy walk from the resort to the village of Tzununa so you can enjoy the local non touristy village. The food was good, service good and the view will stay with you forever. We quite fell in love with Lake Atitlan. Please go support the Women's Cooperative on San Juan, it's a great village. Note: The pool isn't heated so you might need a few drinks but feels great on the leg muscles, there is also the lake for a swim.

This was my third vacation trip to Lake Atitlán. I have stayed at five different hotels in five different villages and Lomas de Tzununá is by far my favorite. My only regret was that I didn't book our entire 8 nights stay there. The place was immaculately clean, the room was beautiful and there were no bugs [earlier that week I caught a black scorpion in my very spider and buggy cottage in Santa Catarina]. Best of all, it was perfectly quiet at night [some of the villages are terribly noisy all night long!] and I was able to get some needed rest. My sister came along and it was also her favorite of the five places we stayed. We both received top-notch massages from María who has a lovely holistic therapy room at the hotel. We also appreciated the warm-hearted and hospitable owner, Mr. Thierry, who brought out his guitar and skillfully played it while my singer sister sang along to several tunes they both knew. If you're looking for a party scene and bar hopping nightlife Tzununá is not the right village for you. But it does have a clean and lovely community and makes for a great daily launching point in which to explore all of the unique villages around the lake. It's the best place to return to in the evening for a spectacular sunset, a dip in the pool, their friendly and accommodating wait staff and a quiet night's sleep. We will definitely return to this picture perfect hotel.

My husband and I stayed at Lomas de Tzununa for the weekend. What a beautiful, relaxing stay we had. The view of Lake Atitlan and the volcanos from the room and balcony were incredible. We left the curtains open so we could see it as we woke up in the morning. The service during the stay was great, including the meals we ate there. The rooms, grounds, etc. were spotless. We also enjoyed our walks and visiting villages and towns around the lake which we accessed through walking, Tuc tucs and public boats. We can’t wait to go back!

Boasting, justifiably, one of the most perfect views anywhere, sweeping down over the breadth of Lake Atitlan to the proud volcanoes beyond, this hotel and restaurant could do more to entice visitors to return. The service is luke-warm and the food should be much improved upon to warrant its high price. The tuna in the salade nicoise, sampled for the second year running, was again grey and of the cheapest variety. The chicken was unrecognizable as chicken....

Thank you for the review that help us improve. If you compare our prices to the same level of restaurants we have super fair prices that we have not changed for years. Tuna and Chicken are of the highest quality bought in Guatemala City and not in the markets were you don´t know the suppliers. We are sorry that you did not enjoy them most of our guests love both options!

Maria and Thierry have created a tranquil and drop-dead gorgeous place to relax on Lake Atitlan. We enjoyed the challenge of climbing the stairs to and from the lake, admiring the craftsmanship that went into the construction feat. (There are handrails throughout, so the stairs are very safe.) Taking the public "lanchas" from the Lomas dock to get to other areas of the lake works well (until 5pm) and is an interesting cultural experience. We enjoyed everything on the menu for dinner and the "continental" breakfast (included with the room) was more than ample with eggs, toast, coffee and a smoothie. We hope to return!
