Detailed Reviews
This was my 2nd visit, and Im just back from a brilliant 2 nights at Mystic River Resort on romatic package called Jungle Love. Accomodation was first class, splotless, a private plunge pool, cracking views. There is so much on offer to fill your day or just chilax in your room. The dining room has an enchanting feel to it, also with superb view of stunning river. The meals were consistently delicious with really friendly, helpful staff. We took canoes out on river and went on jungle walks with amazing views. Cant give this resort enough praise.

Mystic River Resort was amazing. They don’t give themselves enough credit on their website - all food is grown / sourced locally and DELICIOUS, staff is extremely accommodating and nice, the resort itself is well kept with very spacious rooms. They treat all water, offer anything you would need. We did the Busy Bee package and everything went very smoothly. Outside of the tour packages there is so much to do at the resort - many hiking trails, milking goats, spa, lounge chairs, etc. Already want to come back. Thank you for having us!

What an amazing place! Everything about Mystic River is fabulous: The property, staff, rooms, food, tours, pool, views, and ambiance. We loved every minute there. I had actually originally booked two separate lodges, but Mystic was so prompt and helpful that I actually canceled at the other lodge and book my entire week at Mystic. After I booked, they instantly reached out to me to explain all the new protocols related to Covid19, such as what to do when you first arrive at the airport, depending on if you are vaccinated or not.
They provided an airport pickup in a nice new air-conditioned van, they gave me a quick city your, and they even went out of their way for my special request to take a picture by the lighthouse and giant Belize sign by the sea.
They were very helpful in planning all our tours to fit our demanding schedule because we wanted to see everything. They are attentive without being invasive. The property is safe and beautiful. They are off the grid and provide all their own services, including farm to table food with a rotating menu, and a lovely spa area. We went paddle boarding on the property, did the jungle butterfly trail, visited 3 ancient Mayan ruins, did the incredible ATM Cave tour, did a chocolate making tour, did a 3-hour canoe ride to the big Saturday market where we ate amazing food, and went horseback riding into the hills where we visited local arts and crafts makers. All the staff and guides we had were fun and professional, and we left with many new lifelong friends. I’m suffering from withdrawals...
They set up our Covid19 test to ensure we were able to meet the new requirements to get home. I wholeheartedly recommend this place for a romantic couple getaway or a complete family adventure. We can’t wait to go back and chill.

Staff was very helpful and friendly, but the hotel is quite expensive and you get absolutely no value for it. We took this hotel partially for the private pool, it’s so cold you’d never be able to go in it. The pool at the hotel is also completely covered with tarp and can’t use that one either.
We were forced to take the meal plan online for $600 and three of the four nights, they ran out of options before we got to dinner. They offered us no price relief for meal plan ... food is sometimes good, sometimes bad. We also did some math and realized food would have been cheaper buying al a carte at the resort instead of their forced meal plan.
Every day our soaps were not refilled, our firewood was not refilled. And when you’re paying almost $800/night after taxes and fees, you’d expect first class service without requesting it 2-3x/ day
We also booked two tours through this hotel. One for ATM for $150... to find out everyone else on the same tour from other hotels paid $85.
We booked another cooking class through them which was fun, but were very confident the $150/pp was over charged there as well.
Overall nice hotel and nice quiet area, but completely lacks value

Response from MysticRiverResort, General Manager at Mystic River Resort
Responded Jan 7, 2020
Dear Kerri and Andrew You were quite clear on departure that you were unhappy with certain aspects of your stay with us and that you intended to give us a harsh review – and we will take it on the chin although I must admit a 2 star review feels a bit excessive! We appreciate your kind reference to our staff – we do have a wonderful team of people working at Mystic River and they really do try to provide amazing and friendly service. However it would seem that we did drop the ball with you which we regret and apologize for. Please permit me correct some facts though: Our Cloud 9 suites - which is what you booked online - are our top end rooms. They are the most expensive room type specifically because of their location, privacy and views, private plunge pool and fireplace. Since your reservation was in the peak season, right over Christmas, of course you would be paying prime rate for your room as you would anywhere in the world. The rate for the room, including breakfast and dinner for 4 nights, came to $391 per person, including a 12.5% GST, a 9% hotel tax on room and 10% service fee (in lieu of gratuities). Therefore the statement that you were “forced to take the meal plan for $600” is untrue and misleading. We offer a breakfast and dinner plan since our location, 7 miles from the nearest town, makes it more convenient to eat meals on site. Many of our tours include lunch. We take note of your disappointment that all course choices were not available every night by the time you sat down to dinner and we are currently reviewing our policies in this regard. Thank you for pointing this out. When referring to your “soaps not being refilled” I believe you are actually referring to the small complimentary scrubs that we provide in all our guest bathrooms upon check in. Our housekeeper actually confirms replenishing your room supply with not one, but two small containers of scrubs when requested. I know you loved them and we'd be happy to send you another jar when you have depleted the two you purchased in the giftshop on departure. Our small plunge pools in the Cloud 9 suites are just that, pools. We do not refer to them as hot tubs, spa pools or jacuzzies. We are unable to change the climate in December as it is in the midst of our winter and the fact that you required additional firewood for your room fireplace every day, substantiates the fact that it was pretty chilly over that time. I can assure you that those pools are a very welcome addition during our warmer months. We only charged you $95 per person for ATM – not $150 as stated. In this case we, management, were dissatisfied with the delay you experienced for your tour to depart and provided the discount without your asking for it. The $150 for the cooking/chocolate experience included the return transfer, 4.5 hour tour, 12.5% GST and service fee. If you were unhappy with the tour please let us know so that we may revert to our tour provider with any issues. All tours are voluntary and our prices are clearly set out in the room folders. We do not enforce any tours on our guests and trust that they sign up for them willingly and are clear on the costs involved. We offer complimentary canoeing, birding, river tubing and unguided hiking on a myriad of trails, as well as an introductory lesson on stand up paddle boarding - you were welcome to partake in these activities at any time! I regret that your grievances were only brought to my attention at check out – as we checked with you and Andrew daily and except for your request to me once for firewood to be replenished, you never had any issues other than the curtain rod problem which was rectified. I hope that, should you ever return to Belize, we will have an opportunity to correct any wrongs and provide you with a 100% happy and wonderful stay. All the best for 2020. Thank you for being our guests. Management

This was an amazing place, When we were looking for a hotel, we were looking for a treehouse in the jungle. Not finding one that can accommodate a family, we decided to try Mystic River We arrived in the evening after a 2 hour car ride and a difficult road in the dark dark. It definitely felt we were in the jungle. As soon as we parked, two people came to the car. For an instant we thought we were going to be robed. but they said they were helping us with the luggage. At that time we found that one bag was left at the car rental 2 hours away.
Before we even got to the front office we were greeted by the owner. She took us to a reception hut that looked like something out of a movie. Within a few minutes, we had pre-ordered dinner, planned and made reservations for a tour of the ATM caves for next day, arranged for someone to knock on the door to wake us up, and they sent someone back to retrieve our luggage. They also provided toiletries and tee shirts to get through the night.
We found it quite different than the photos on the web site. The rooms in the pictures appeared to be low huts. Each room is its own building and because of the way they were situated on the hill, the back of the buildings overlook the river from above giving it the feel of a treehouse. The buildings are situated so that you can see any other buildings the deck, so it does feel like your in the middle of the jungle. They will bring freshly brewed coffee to your room so you can enjoy it overlooking the river. The areas around the buildings are well maintained so that you don't fear any creatures at your unit. The rooms were spacious, have cathedral ceilings. Most of the areas we were brand new, or very close to it. It was all immaculately kept.
We were able to preorder breakfast so we could have it before our tour and dinner so it would be ready when we returned. They packed us towels and bags for our wet cloths and since my eye glass retainers were in my lost luggage, they actually made me one for the tour. When we returned they took our wet laundry and shoes to be done overnight, while we went right to dinner. When we finished, the lost luggage was in our room.
We were planning for a roughing-it jungle experience, but instead we got a first class boutique experience. We are still raving about every aspect of our stay..

Mystic River Resort absolutely made our trip to Belize. Everyone there made sure every need was met, from cleaning our laundry to helping repair a broken coveted piece of art my son purchased from a vendor. The cabana we stayed in was perfectly arranged for a family, with a king-sized bedroom and twin beds in the attached room. The restaurant had a table set for our crew, which we enjoyed coming to for each meal. The pool was refreshing to come home to after a fun day of tours, with the best informative guides. The grounds were beautiful, the staff was amazing, the tours the best. We wish we had more time at Mystic River - we could have stayed many more days and still not discovered all the wonders they had to offer! We cannot wait to return!

We had a brief stay at Mystic River but wouldn’t hesitate to go back. The lodges are beautiful, well-appointed and there is a strong focus on environmental sustainability which I really appreciate. Highlights were the newly constructed pool and the property itself. Having coffee delivered to your room with the River view was everything. Staff was helpful and professional and front desk nearly killed me with kindness haha. (I prefer a little less pleasantry talk but others in my party were not bothered).
Know before you go:
1. It is not in San Ignacio. If this is where you want to be, this is not the resort for you. The road in and out is a work in progress but in current condition, it is annoying, time-consuming and potentially costly if you don’t have your own rental to drive.
2. Do research and price shipping on tours. You may find that outside companies will have a cheaper prices than the resort tour, even with a p/u, drop off at Mystic River.

So to start, am from New York City so not the most outdoorsy; however had the most incredible experience at Mystic river. A few things that stood out were:
Service: every employee we met from bartenders to managers to tour guides ( ABI is the 🐐) were so genuine, kind and helpful - they really enhanced the experience
Food/accommodations: breakfast was awesome (get the pancakes :) ) and loved dinner every night. Also the rooms were significantly larger than expected but comfy beds, clean bathrooms and sweet views of the river
General fun: whether it was tubing down the river, hanging at the pool or the organized trips 1/ ATM tour and 2/ mayan ruins , we had a blast
Overall my girlfriend and I had an AMAZING time - would recommend for all !

This resort is nestled right next to the Macal River. Our room is very nice with a small wading pool and water fall on the deck that looks over the river. You are completely surrounded by the jungle and you can hear the birds all around you.
Leo has been our server at the restaurant and is very accommodating since I have food allergies. You relax and enjoy nature in its own element. They have canoes and tubes for floating around the river and an extensive network of hiking trails.
They have a bird hike every morning and a nature talk each evening. We went on the bird hike in the morning our guide was Diego. He was very knowledgeable and he could identify birds by hearing their call. We want to see a Toucan and he found one within minutes. We watched two toucan communicate with each other when they were about 50 yards apart. This was highlight of trip to Mystic River Resort. I just want say the staff and Manager Petro makes your stay there wonderful experience.
If you want to be in Jungle setting I would highly recommend the Mystic River Resort in San Ignacio.

My husband and I had an exciting trip to Belize planned for March 2020, which unfortunately had to be rescheduled due to COVID-19. Mystic River resort kindly provided us with a voucher for the value of our trip valid for one year. Fast forward to today, with COVID-19 worse than ever and additional personal issues to consider, we did not feel it would be safe to plan travel any time in the upcoming months. I reached out to Mystic River resort to express my concerns and they met them with nothing but kindness and consideration. They understood the unique situation I was in and graciously offered a refund for the cost of our stay. I was extremely impressed with their customer service. The team and management made me feel valued as a guest and a person. In my experience, it is rare that a resort shows such commitment to prioritizing their guests well-being. My family and I will certainly be planning another trip to Mystic River resort in the future and I highly encourage others to visit as well to experience the first class customer service themselves.

Our Owner and Managed do take cognizance of personal circumstances with each reservation and cancellation. While we are not always in a position to offer a refund we will always try to be as helpful and considerate as we can. We are still navigating all of Covid-19 challenges and doing our best as a business by our staff and guests. We looking forward to welcoming you, your friends and family very soon. Hi - if you ensure you have some bug repellant on hand and use it when you are out and about, you should be absolutely fine. The most effective bug deterrent is Citronella Oil -buy it in concentrated oil form and mix it in with your suncreen - you will be bug -free. This is also very effective on the beach for the Noseeums.
