The Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Hotel stands out for its vibrant atmosphere and live entertainment, creating an engaging experience that guests consistently enjoy. Its location, right by a stunning beach, receives high marks for beauty and convenience. While the hotel's amenities, such as clean pools and a variety of food options, are generally appreciated, some guests feel improvements could enhance the experience. The rooms are modern and clean, yet booking mishaps and maintenance issues are occasional drawbacks.
Service at the hotel is commended for staff friendliness and professionalism, though service inconsistencies do arise. The hotel's cleanliness, with well-maintained grounds and a pristine beach, is a highlight for reviewers. However, the value proposition is met with criticism from travelers who encounter additional costs and find some amenities lacking.

Detailed Reviews
We recently got back after three relaxing weeks at the Almirante Beach Hotel. The hotel is situated right beside the old Club Amigo Atlantico and shares the same beach as well as a local beach. The room consisted of a king bed, walk in shower, double sinks, toilet (no door) but a sliding door for privacy, large tv with 70 channels, daily water, free bottle of run, easy to use safe and a view of the ocean in the distance. Food is generally good by Cuban standards and we were impressed with the service. One has to wear a mask entering the food court, and all protocols of hygine were followed. There is a good amount of walking at the hotel which we were not used to, especially from room to the beach. Generally. I woud return on a return trip.

I was at the new resort for New Years 2022. Excellent resort if priced under $1300 ( we paid $1929 and it wasn’t worth it at this price bc unfortunately they run out of liquor stock, milk to make cappuccino and the food is tasty but not much to choose from at all. They only have 3 al a carte restaurants that don’t hold to many people and as this resort is so large they should have had at least 5 al carte restaurants to accommodate all guests. The room and the hotel and bathrooms are spotless and new however the hotel lacks in the limited drinks and food selection. The management needs to train their staff properly as service is slow and if you see something you like at the buffet grab it bc then it is gone and they don’t replenish. The entertainment is phenomenal ( good music and the MC Vican does a great job pumping it up during the day at the beach , pools and the disco is a lot of fun bc of Vican and the amazing g DJ’s and music. Adriana is wonderful getting guests to play games and activities and has taught me dance moves too! Oscar and Roberto and Frank are the best servers in this resort. They go over and beyond and speak good English so they understand us when we ask for certain food items. Improvements: fill the bar fridge in the room
Daily , have a drink menu to select drinks , have a menu for the snack bar too and they supply offer breakfast at the snack bar as well to enjoy the beautiful view of the beach which is unbelievable. The beach is calm and clean with no seaweed and it reminded me of Bahamas with the clean white sand. This resort was full of Cubans when we came here for New Years 2022. Will definitely come back here if priced under $1300. Wifi needs improvement and barely works.

We stayed at this wonderful hotel for 19 nights. The staff from all areas, from management, waiters/waitresses, bar staff, maids & entertainment were excellent. So accommodating helpful & friendly to all our needs. Urlis the customer service manager went above & beyond & speaks very good English, helped & dealt with any questions we had.
Food there was great from the Buffet to the LA Carts. We did have an opportunity to eat at the Adult section & the lobster was delicious. The Asian restaurant was a great experience also the Italian & the seafood was good too. We didn't find the international restaurant very good but that's our opinion it is set in the middle of the 24 hour snack bar & you can make a reservation for lunch. Tables outside of the 24 hour snacks we did wait over an hour to get our food. I'd say this was a let down so didn't go back to eat there again. The beach is amazing with a bar, they have volleyball nets & each day have a Zumba class on or in the sea wich was good. The swimming pools around the resort are well maintained with a kids pool having a pirate ship with slides. The gardeners keep the gardens beautiful too. We have stayed in different hotels in Guardalavaca over 18 times & had the most amazing times, this is by far the nicest newest hotel we have stayed in Cuba. Do your research as a lot has changed in this country from their currency to lack of items in shops, Cuba is Cuba. Understanding the Countries situation is a must, the staff in all areas are so friendly & just go out of their way to help you if needed. Our experience at this hotel was Amazing would I recommend it! YES. We will definitely return in the future if there was direct flights from manchester uk to Holguin.
Enjoyed every minute.

We had an idyllic stay had at this resort. From what we saw, this is the nicest hotel in the area, both externally and internally. This hotel is extremely family friendly, for example, they set up a crib complete with bedding ahead of time, so our youngest slept very comfortably here.
The drinks at all the bars in the resort were always timely and given with a smile, even if they did not have the ingredients to make you the exact drink you wanted (as is the case in Cuba, where ingredients are not always available). The lobby bar will even give you bottled water and milk, if you request it for your baby.
And because the resort is so brand new, all the facilities are gleaming and in good repair and staff can be seen wiping and mopping and sweeping constantly.
Plenty of hot and cold water is available in the bathrooms and rain forest style shower have excellent water pressure. We had a family room & both rooms were spacious with plenty of drawers and storage/closet space. Both rooms in the family rooms had TV (only played Spanish channels though), couches, sizeable balconies with chairs and drying racks, sizeable and modern bathrooms and locker to store your valuables. You are provided a big bottle of water in the mini fridge everyday; but there aren’t any alcohol in the mini fridge.
We had the family rooms facing the mountains and the spa, which was perfect for us, as it made it very quiet and we got great sleep in the comfortable and large beds.
The pools and beach are beautiful and clean. My only suggestion would be that the pool and beach bars remain open until sundown (it closes right at 5pm) and that the fruit juice bar beside the pool is regularly staffed, so that swimmers can enjoy the pool and make the vibe more exciting :)
Overall, this was a beautiful resort with friendly and efficient staff, clean environment, beside the stunning Guardalavaca beach and has tasty food at both the buffet and the Italian & Japanese a La carte.

Fairly new resort, we had a family room and a standard room and both were great, beach is paradisiac and plenty of chairs and huts. Same thing for pools, clean, plenty of chairs and huts, animation was also great both at the beach and at the pools. Resort employees are so kind, you are not a number at this resort, people cares about you. Barbara and Kenisey from guest services were very helpfull. They managed to have a birthday cake for one of our teen which was really appreciate. For food: AC in A la carte and in the buffet should to be colder. A la carte was really good specially the Japanese one. For the buffet, you need to be open minded, you are not in Canada but everyday we found some good stuff to eat. you can normally find grilled beef, chicken or shrimps, fish, burgers, hotdogs etc ... Softdrink were rare, we did not ask to get some in our room but there was none in our fridge, we got water bottles everyday in the room without asking. We were a family of 7 with 5 teenagers and game room (Xbox, Playstation, VR, Pool, PingPong, babyfoot) was perfect for those who did not want to go to the night show. Weekend was busy with locals but weekdays were not, best time to try kayaks, paddle boards, catamaran rides and pedalos. For the Internet, you have a username/password for the week, that must be renewed every 3 hours. This is 3 hours of use or connected, so when you don't need it tick the wifi off and counter stops. Internet was working perfectly throughout the resorts except at the beach.
Value for the price is unbeatable, it was half of the price of Mexico or Domican Republic, will retun to that resort for sure.

The beverage selection was dismal. The resort was out of soft drinks, bottled water and mineral water. Aside from Breakfast, fresh juice was not available. The food was OK but very little variety. Lobster was offered for an extra $25 in what is supposed to be an all inclusive resort. The sandwiches at the 24 hour snack bar were made from very bad quality bread that literally dissolved into crumbs. Food often ran out at the outdoor lunch buffet before you had a chance to get to the front of the line. One day the outdoor beach buffet was only for Canadian visitors which seems discriminatory. The only gift shop at the hotel did not accept cash or US issued credit cards which made it extremely difficult for visitors from the United States to make purchases. In addition, the gift shop did not sell any types of the over the counter medicines such as aspirins or Alka Seltzers. Very little to do at night as the resort had no casino and only a very small tucked away disco. You would think that being in Cuba the resort would have a well appointed night club with live music. Finally, the public rooms such as the lobby and the dining room were unbearably hot. Definitely, not a place I’m going back to

Thank you for posting your review. We regret you got very poor information before arriving to Cuba and our Resort. At the Hotel we have for breakfast a fresh juice station with more than 8 natural juices prepare for clients on request. We have soft drinks and water available. We do Canadian day but also Cuban day every week. In Cuba Casinos are not legal. We have entertainment program with music during the day, afternoon and night. A theater where we celebrate our live shows, karaoke, disco and theme nights at the lobby bar from 8pm with live music. Plus during the Cuban and Canadian afternoon there is live music. Unfortunately due to embargo, Cuba can not accept US credit cards, but this information is posted. Sincerely, we invite you to visit us.

Firstly, this our 11th time travelling to Cuba and our first since the pandemic restrictions. We stayed at the Gran Muthu from the 29th of March to the 5th of April and upgraded to the Adult VIP section on our second day. We made the decision because of availability and not because we did not enjoy the amenities at the main part of the resort. This resort is new. The rooms are modern and spacious with comfortable beds. The grounds are immaculate and beautifully maintained. The beach is one of the most beautiful we have ever seen in Cuba. No weeds, no rocks just beautiful white sand and turquoise water. Palapas at the main part of the beach are hard to get and already reserved with towels unless you get up in the darkness between 5 and 6 am to get one. The VIP section of the beach always had some available all day long.
Food at the buffet was good and plentiful with a good variety to choose from. Diana at the Flambe section of the buffet did an excellent job preparing dishes and was always enjoyable to talk to. The Oriental and Italian a al carte restaurants were our favorites.
Drinks were pretty standard at the lobby, pool and beach. If you love beer and basic rum drinks, you will be fine.
Now, if you are travelling children, please consider upgrading to the Adult VIP section. The service, food and drink selection is second to none. You will have access to your own restaurant, lobby bar, pool and beach section. You will never have to line up for food or drinks. The VIP pool and beach section have consierges that serve premium drinks. Leonardo at the beach and Roberto at the pool were always very attentive with excellent service providing us with a delicious variety of drinks. The food and service at the VIP restaurant was excellent. Grilled chicken, beef dishes and salads were very good and even had lobster everyday for lunch.
Daniel at the VIP lounge did an excellent job during the evenings providing everyone with great service and variety of great drink including Pina Coladas, margaritas, screwdrivers and mudslides
Last but not least, we wish to thank our VIP butler staff, Reynaldo, Yoandra, Adel and Adrian. The service and care that you provided us was second to none. Adel and Adrian always ensured that all our needs and requests were fulfilled everyday and night. Thank you. It will never be forgotten.
We stayed in room 2501 and we are definitely returning this coming November.

I flew back 10 days ago and have had time to reflect on my trip. I keep boasting about the restaurants they offered to reserve a table at. Excellent food from them.
The buffet and snack bar selections were satisfying. We chose omelettes and pastries for breakfast and pizzas and fries for lunches. there were lots of salad ingredients as well to make your own salad.
The hotel was overall extremely clean and well maintained. Gardeners, housekeepers and servers every where.
Beach has beautiful sand and water. Enough huts and lounge chairs for everyone. servers come around regularly.
Entertainment offer volleyball, bochieball and zumba in the sand. lots of fun!
they also put on games around the pool with prizes (rum, wine, beer) to be won. The Entertainment are hilarious and manage to get lots of people to participate.
everyone respected the mask wearing rules and sanitizer was everywhere for people to use. they didn't let covid ruin the experience.
The beach ends at both sides pretty fast, so no long beach walks are to be had.

Our room was facing the inner court and all night we could hear the noise from the lobby bar. This bar is open 24 hours!
The check in to the hotel was nothing but chaos! 3 buses and only 2 persons on reception. We waited 1 hour to get to the front of the line. No bus boys to take your luggage. Wifi was only available in 3hr increments and then you had to go back to reception to renew for 3 hours.
Red wine seemed to be a problem. I would have a glass and order another, only to be told there wasn't any red wine. Never did have white wine, could only get that if you bought a bottle.
Food was as expected, nothing thrilling. food at snack bar is cold.
We will not be going back to this place.

Hi all, just returned from a week stay at the Almirante Grand Muthu in Guardalavaca and here is my review. I booked a week from Dec 22nd to the 29th, 2022 at this resort and it is wonderful, the rooms are large and nicely decorated, beds are comfy and the TV is clear with many channels. The surprise is that everything works which is unusual for Cuba. The staff seems happy and service is good, I consider the food being excellent since Cuba has never been a foodie destination. The beach is lovely, nice white sand and no sand fleas here, the water is clear and you certainly won’t need beach shoes. There’s ample long chairs but only a hundred palapas which could suffice for a five hundred room resort, but if you want to get one you will have to get up at sunrise in order to stake one. The sad part is that folks reserved them all day but they use them sparingly, leaving lots of empty chairs in the shade. This situation could be fixed so that you can’t reserve and use when you are there. Truly they do wonders with the buffet, you will find something to eat. Remember Cuba has shortages such as fish, fruits, vegetables and even salt is rare, and the embargo can’t be blamed for all shortages. I would have like to buy cigars but none were available even at the airport. This is a great resort, probably the best I have stayed at in. The only negative point is a security concern, lifeguards are spending most of their time surfing their personal electronic device. There should be a complete ban while on duty, their job is to supervise the environment not their phones. There’s a rule called the 10-20, this allows a lifeguard 10 seconds to recognize an aquatic emergency and another 20 seconds to perform a rescue and begin care. The use of a cell phone should only be for emergency calls. I hope the upper management read this so that they can bring change that can possibly save a life. Remember take precautions since your life is at risk in the water.
