The amenities were great, especially considering the price. The lounge room was spacious and the kitchen was very well-equipped. The room was warm enough, too, even in the cold, wind and rain. The guy at the front desk was friendly, too.

We arrived at Howard's Lodge at 1am after a four hour journey from Auckland on Friday night. I had spoken to both Sharon and who I can only assume was Grant in the days before our arrival. Sharon advised that our room key and instructions would be in the reception area as everyone would be in bed by the time...

Good clean room, maybe a little small and dark, but warm. Can be a little noisy when people are talking out in the hallway but facilities are great for people wanting to walk the Tongariro Crossing. Staff very helpful and we were provided with a cut lunch and water for the walk.

My two nights at Howards Mountain Lodge were probably the best in my recent North Island holiday. Fantastic accommodation, knowledgeable and friendly staff. As I arived late at the Park and there were no food venues open the owner / operator, Grant, cooked me some bacon and egg butties, a real treat!

Great timing regarding the bacon sandwich, is there anything to beat it ? Hope to see you back for winter.

The guy on the phone was very rude and impatient when I called up earlier to enquire the pick up times at the lodge and the ending point of the Tongariro Crossing, although the lady at the counter was very helpful when we checked in.

Sorry you didn't appreciate my phone manner. I promise it isn't my intention to be that and I will be more aware of the issue going forward.

The owners were very helpful and super friendly. The location, shuttle service and packed lunches for the hike were all great! The breakfast was simple, definitely nothing fancy. The wifi all over New Zealand leaves a lot to be desired, this hotel included. You get 100mb (which will last you about 1 hour of light Facebook checking) for up to...

Stayed at Howard's Lodge to walk the Tongariro Crossing. Shuttle was organised efficiently. Our room was great, clean and comfortable. The communal kitchen was spotless and well equipped. Grant was extremely helpful with information and assistance with bookings for our ongoing travels.

I've stayed here a few times. Always helpful staff. There was a bit of confusion about whether we needed breakfast, these things happen, they handled it well. Will definitely stay again. Adding some characters to make my review longer.
