Did a fall tour of Manitoulin. We wanted a spot to park our motorhome for a few days while we took our car to Tobermory to visit some family. This was the only park open in October. This park is meant for trailers so Karen said we could park our motorhome beside the septic field. While we were parking the ferry company called and our ferry in 2 hours was cancelled and we could go on the the ferry the next day. So i quess were staying the night. Karen ran a extension chord and electricity. I said i could pay cash , visa etc. She said oh lets square up when you get back from Tobermory. Went to get some food and were again called by the the ferry company and were told the next days ferries were cancelled. So at this point we made alternate plans. We went back to pack up the car on the motorhome to leave. Total stay, maybe 3 hours. My wife went to the dumpy office to tell Karen we would be leaving. Karen said 50$ !!... Generally most of our experiences in the Rv world have been friendly, i was disappointed to still find money grubbers like this around in this industry. in previous reviews i found similar experiences. but hey ... my fault i should of insisted up front that i wanted to know the cost. Ironic thing thing is that her name was Karen ! I have never done a review but for Karen i made an exception.…
This place is a real gem. We stayed at one of the tent camp sites, and had a perfect little spot close to washrooms, showers, and a beautiful lake all in walking distance. Affordable and beautiful. Karen, the owner, was extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. We will for sure be coming back!
We wanted to check out Manitoulin island and was able to book a cottage at Black Rock resort a couple of weeks prior to our trip. We chose this resort as it got a 4.3 rating on google reviews and the description on their website sounded like an ideal place. I have to begin by saying the website is deceiving, misleading and inaccurate. It says there is free wifi - which there isn’t and we only found out upon arrival, it describes the resort as rustic chic - which it isn’t, the resort is rustic, as in old and dated, but not chic, it says there is a private beach which is in fact a small area with sand and the rate I was quoted on the site was wrong and was listed lower than the actual cost. When we first arrived we were told the cottage we booked was going to be given to another customer - which we found very unprofessional. The key to the front door of our cottage was lost and Karen, the owner had to replace it the next day. The grounds were covered in goose poo all over the grounds which we were a bit grossed out by. There we’re new windows, new front door and appliances but the rest of the cottage was dated and old. There were stains on the sofas, the mattresses were old and dated. We were told we had to take all of our garbage back with us when we left which we were fine with, but we’re taken aback when we were told we had to take all recycling back with us as well except for beer cans and empty alcohol bottles. We found that to be a big turn off and a bit greedy. I have to say the lake is beautiful and the view from our cottage was pristine and It was very quiet and peaceful. However I question the high rating Black Rock Resort is given based on my experience.…
Talked to most locations on the island before settling here. great website, and great experience. first timers and long timers in our group and campsite was perfect. Myself, my sister and brother and law can attest that my nieces had an incredible time.
My fam-jam (5adult + 5littles) visited _Black Rock_ cottage resort on Manitoulin Is. for LabourDay weekend. Here are my most memorable memories: 1. Excellent beach [includes docks, sandy play park and warm waters !!] 2. Old-fashion-feel cabins, also campsites - each with electricity/firepit - our lodge had plumbing and comfy beds! 3. HOLYmolee views!!!! 4. So many Monarch butterflies and they.were.huge {...saved the best for last,} 5. Owner and Manager lady: Totally 'not gonna spoil ya and u'll like it' Lol okay there's always a critique so here goes --> Looks like the place could use a new vibe i.e. Hostelling International(?)
