Hardwick Hall Hotel is frequently praised by guests for its spacious rooms that boast scenic views and a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere enhanced by live piano music and a cozy restaurant. While the cleanliness of the hotel is a highlight, with the well-maintained facilities and fresh food earning accolades, some guests have noted maintenance issues in rooms and a desire for additional amenities, such as a spa or gym. The service is generally regarded as friendly and professional, although there have been occasional reports of inconsistent attentiveness. While the hotel is considered to offer good value, some travelers feel that certain aspects fall short of their value expectations.

Stayed with my husband on Friday gone to celebrate my birthday. It was a surprise as I didn't find out until on arrival where we going and I was most impressed having never visited before.

We had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were made to feel very comfortable and relaxed.

The room was very spacious and decorated beautifully with all the facilities you would expect. There was a lovely bath and walk in shower. There were certain aspects of the room which could do with some TLC.

We took advantage of drinks in the bar prior to evening meal and found the bar had a lovely atmosphere with a good variety of drinks at very reasonable prices. We were a little surprised to discover there were no drinks menu and that they didnt offer cocktails. The food in the rib room was absolutely stunning, plenty of choice and generous portion sizes. The staff we experienced were all so friendly, attentive and welcoming and only made our visit all the better.

We were a little disappointed to see that the menu in the rib room was limited and not the same as the menu advertised in the room. Although the food was fantastic we had viewed the menu whilst in the room getting ready and pretty much made up our mind as to what we were going to order and so it was in the shame when the options weren't available in the restaurant however we did understand the reason for the limited menu. They currently offer three courses for £25 with a few supplements available which I understand changes daily.

Breakfast the following morning was served 7-10 and consisted of help yourself continental and a cooked breakfast served to the table. Of the cooked options neither the salmon nor eggs Benedict were available which was a shame and I understand from other diners they had ran out of vegetarian sausages, I found it quite surprising that you helped yourself to the jugs of orange/apple juice etc at the continental station as they weren't cleaned/sterilised in between use and so you would use it immediately after someone else and so on with no cleaning in between. Similarly you helped yourself to toast by handling bread and putting it in the machine and then someone else would immediately after you. I would have expected the staff to serve you to prevent numerous people touching the same items.

After check out on the Saturday we took advantage of a walk around the country park which was lovely and made even better due to it being a very nice day followed by afternoon tea in the hotel which was most enjoyed.

All in all we had a great stay however found breakfast a little disappointing.

As a Hotel this place is top notch , being before and well come again , wife and myself love a night away each month and when a deal popped up on internet bowser we took the offer of a mid week break with evening meal to the value of £50 pounds, breakfast and a nice treat of chockie strawberries and wine on arrivial in room.
Set in its own grounds with stunning lake and wildlife enjoying the freedom of enjoying life we stayed one night in a lovely room on second floor over looking the lake. Going to give room number 306 as it is worth trying to get if you really want a stunning view on waking up on a morning.
Service is lovely with a bit of banter as well which i throughly enjoy....had our evening meal in the Ribs Resturant which was part of the deal...up to £50 a couple.
My wife had a pasta and myself a steak which was very nicely cooked but will say mains menu was very limited and wife likes a chicken dish which was not available.
Sweets where ordered and nice choice , we both chose cheesecake and nice touch with presentation so with drinks and our deal we owed £15 , a tad expensive for a meal but we are in a Hotel and expected this.
Breakfast was as expected and again nice service.
Late checkout so another walk around the grounds with sunshine peaking over lake before we left our lovely room.
We have being before and as spa lovers we do miss a nice afternoon in a spa but the grounds at this stunning location does make up for it.
This hotel is not a Rockcliffe or Seaham Hall but we can highly recommend if you are travelling through this part of the country book a night here you will not be disappointed , check to see if any shows or special nights are on location as i know this hotel does these shows throughout the year.

We have had many enjoyable nights away at the Hardwick Hall Hotel it’s my Hubby’s favourite place so i booked a night away for his birthday and took advantage of the Fizz and Feast! We had a lovely bar meal in the bar at lunchtime however the girl on the bar serving looked like she hated her job she never smiled once. I went back to get a couple of glasses for the wine i’d brought to drink in the room and was left waiting 5mins for someone to come and serve me. I’d booked one of there 4 poster bed corner rooms on the way to the room i noticed the carpets and stairs looked like they hadn’t been hoovered for days on arriving in the room i was just about to unpack and the door to the room opened a man i believe is the manager barged in without even knocking to deliver the Fizz i was shocked at this although he apologised this could have been very embarrassing! The room was clean and the bed very comfortable however one of the sinks in the bathroom was completely cracked and needed replaced the draws and wardrobe very worn bathroom also very shabby needed a paint this has definitely gone down hill since our last stay! The meal on the night was lovely the staff in the restaurant were fantastic and i would say the best part of our stay, We had a lovely nights sleep and headed off for breakfast the stairs and carpets to breakfast were now in a terrible state glitter all over and even cigarettes buds obviously hadn’t been cleaned the previous afternoon, on arriving to the breakfast area we were told to sit anywhere we found a table and sat for about 10mins till someone came over to take our food order we waited another 10 mins till i had to flag a staff member down to order some tea and coffee the tea came and i had to go hunt for some milk the coffee still hadn’t arrived the breakfast came plates red hot i nearly burnt my hand on we weren’t told to be careful that they were hot just discovered this ourselves, breakfast was poor the poached eggs were hard tasteless i practically left all of mine, the coffee arrived after my hubby had practically finished. Really disappointed in Hardwick it wasn’t cheap at £160 either i don’t think i’d be returning.

Hi Nicola I am really sorry about the issues that you experienced during your recent stay. I will certainly take your comments seriously and attend to all issues immediately. On a personal note, I definitely did knock your door and only began to enter the room when there was no response. No sooner had I opened the door, your husband appeared and I apologised profusely. I did not actually step in to your room but please accept my apologies once again.

We enjoyed our stay and we were made to feel welcome by the staff. The location was excellent for Durham, a 20min drive to the park and ride.
Our room was spacious, well decorated, spotlessly clean and everything worked. The bathroom was huge with one of the largest baths I have seen in a UK hotel.
The Rib Room was excellent and again had friendly and attentive staff. Although the menu is understandably a bit limited at the moment there was still a reasonable choice. At three courses for £25 it was also great value.
Breakfast had traditional continental and hot food options, some from a buffet and some served at the table. Cleaning wipes were available at the buffet and staff cleaned high contact areas regularly.
The Covid 19 precautions through out the hotel were good, including taking your temperature on arrival.
You can walk around the adjoining country park from the hotel . A walk around the lake take about 30mins.

With all our holidays cancelled due to Covid-19, we needed a couple of nights away to recharge and feel normal now that restrictions have been lifted and I have to say Hardwick Hall Hotel was just what we needed.

From the moment we walked into reception, the staff couldn't do enough to make our stay as perfect as possible. We booked a premier room at the front of the house looking out to the lake and it was great, nice big comfy bed, roll tub bath, walk in shower, couldn't ask for anymore.

The food was first class, breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner and we couldn't fault it, and all with excellent service, staff eager to help and very polite.

The hotel has done a great job of being Covid friendly with hand sanitizer around the hotel, screens around reception and the bar and all staff wore masks all of the time, so they've really done their part in trying to limit the spread of this virus whilst trying to make sure guests have great time and less time worrying about catching it.

We wore masks around the communal areas but once seated in the bar or at the dinner table, we removed them and enjoyed our drinks/meals.

For us we really made the most of our two nights and it was a great base to take a leisurely walk around the grounds and explore a bit of the North East area.

Looking forward to staying again next year and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Stayed one night on our way up to Northumberland using a Secret Escapes deal and wished we had been staying for longer. We'd paid a little extra for a better room and were not disappointed. Although we had a very windy night with storm Dennis howling around our many windows our room has aspects on three sides and was just so large it could not be faulted.
The deal included a fairly generous allowance towards dinner which was truly worth every penny. It would have been possible to eat within the allowance without going hungry. There was plenty of choice, being offered this menu for a stay of several nights would not have caused us any problems.
The staff were all extremely helpful and polite. I doubt anything would have been too much trouble, but other than the 'noisy' weather it was a fairly quiet Sunday evening. It may have seemed different if there was a wedding or a conference going on, although where we dined was unlikely to be affected by the crowds.

We will certainly be back. The chocolate dipped strawberries were great and the bottle of Prosecco well received by our Daughter and son-in law when we got home (I can't drink for medical reasons I'm afraid!).

This festival was so organised, stayed in a yurt 2 nights very comfortable hot showers and toilet facilities didn't disappoint , staff friendly , acts were plentiful as were other dance stages. There were some areas for children and a few fairground rides. Plenty of bars selling a variety of drinks. variety of food outlets
Tips - take chairs if glamping, bottles for water there were stand pipes to get drinking water in the festival. make sure you spend your drinks voucher as the bars shut immediately after last act. There is a Sainsburys in the village but you need a car to get there if you need to replenish drinks ect. no drinks can be taken into the festival.
Something for everyone including children.

Just had a lovely night away at Hardwick Hall hotel with my partner. We booked the fizz and feast offer for £139 ( £50 of that was towards our evening meal in the RiB room ) and we weren’t disappointed!
The staff are friendly, the rooms are nice and spacious, beds are huge, the grounds are lovely. The only thing I could fault is that the room was extremely hot and we couldn’t find a way to turn the temperature down so we ended up having the window open all night.
Overall we had a lovely night, would definitely visit again, especially for the price!

For us living in South Yorkshire it wasn’t far to travel and within distance to go out for the day without traveling too far.

When we arrived the room wasn’t quite ready and immediately were offered to sit in the lounge with a drink white was ready. We decided to go down to the lake which was beautiful. There were plenty of people out walking round the lake as the hotel is within the hardwick country park.

Well when we did get in the room I was amazed it was one of the best rooms we have had.

Pros
Room 205 one of the best views
The room was on the level of the reception which was good,no stairs to climb
Huge room with one of the biggest beds I have seen with lovely bedding.
Good selection of tea and biscuits and plenty of bottle water.
Great bathroom with huge walk-in shower, large bath, double sinks. Lovely toiletries
Big fluffy towels
Breakfast was fantastic, huge choice of cereals, jams, croissants, fresh fruit, cereal bars, danish pastries and of course the toast machine with a choice of bread.
The menu for the cooked breakfast was also good but as usual we chose the full English.
Good food in the rib room but expensive

Cons

The waste bin in the bathroom had not been emptied and an unmentionable item was in there. I told reception and asked them to empty it while we’re were at dinner. Came back and it was done,
As I have said rib room expensive and down stairs. Staff were superb
Might look at using the bar next time, menu looked good.
Don’t think the fridge in the room was working, but didn’t need it so didn’t mention it.

Nearest place Sedgefield was a 5 minute drive in the car but I like walking so it took me about 10 minutes across a field on a public footpath.
The walk round the lake is wonderful with interesting things to see.

Found the staff from the reception, dining room to the cleaning staff all very friendly.

All in all a good 2 night stay

Hardwick Hall is in a beautiful setting and the room where 7 of us had afternoon tea was lovely. Our waitress, Isla, was so helpful and friendly and the tea itself, at £16.95 was delicious and great value. We were there for 2 hours and were supplied with numerous extra pots of tea. None of us managed to finish the selection so we were given boxes to take our cakes home (just eaten the last one!). We would definitely return.
