We visited the White Raven House this past July for personal vacation. It was our first time on the island, and our first time visiting Masset. The bed and breakfast is a short drive out of Masset and easily accessible. We rented the Butterfly’s cocoon, or Kulgaay.yugung nee. We had a king size bed, a waterfront view with a patio door and a few chairs to sit outside and enjoy the salty breeze. Our room had a full private and modern bathroom. The room was well insulated for noise. There was a common area with a kitchen and a pool table on the same floor as our room. Up one floor was a spectacular great room exposing a lot of April’s beautiful art, with fabulous views of Masset Sound. Breakfast was prepared for us each morning. We had pancakes and fruit the first day, and delicious frittata the second day. April was a wonderful host and we are sure to be back!…
We had a wonderful stay. Visiting Haida Gwaii on business, it was a great home base to return, cook our own dinners and enjoy our evenings walking the beach with the wildlife, enjoying the view and playing a little pool and various supplied games. Rooms are clean with lovely new bathrooms. We had to be held to a certain business budget, so I had booked the smallest room. As we were there towards the end of high season and it was quiet, they offered me an upgrade to a waterfront room. Very much appreciated!! Breakfasts were excellent and we enjoyed April and her fur babies company. And yes, April is an incredibly talented and accomplished Haida artist. I will definitely be back next time! Thank you!!
In April's Guest House you are surrounded by water, nature and art work. The rooms are clean, comfortable and include everything you might need. The breakfasts were amazing and the family style eating another cultural experince we wouldn't have wanted to miss. The common area was really helpful to prepare our own meals once in awhile. Trails and beaches were close by and Old Masset was lovely to stay in. We feel very fortunate to have stayed here and will treasure the art work we purchased for our home.
This artist's gallery and hotel included had many recommendable assets: The rooms and bathrooms were modern, well furnished, and clean. There was a delicious breakfast included in a sit-down environment in the dining room. There was a common room with TV and other entertainments on the ground floor, as well as a refrigerator and stove and kitchen utensils. As Old Masset is short on restaurants, I chose to cook a stir-fry here for dinner one night. Other visitors brought their dinners to eat at the tables. Old Masset isn't far from Masset, but we wanted to be where the Indigenous Day ceremony was held, and this fit the bill. We were just a little disappointed that there were no rooms left with 2 beds, when we booked, so book well in advance.
Impressive but never pretentious, April identified and met all the needs in our group. Six people, aged 8 to 75, were all welcomed, nourished and made comfortable, day after day. Her professionalism and kindness were outstanding. We look forward to returning soon. Barb and D’Arcy, Toronto
Delicious family style breakfasts, with dietary issues addressed Right on the waters of Masset inlet, where you can view eagles right outside your room. Fully updated bathrooms with a great bathtub. April is a celebrated Haida artist and her artwork is available for purchase. We will be back!
April is an artist of Haida ancestry and an excellent B&B host, she took time to talk with us. It was a very relaxing and amazing stay, the sound of the waves, and fresh air made for a restful sleep. Eagles, kingfishers and other birds were a joy to behold. Her breakfasts were healthy and varied, wish I had asked for recipes! The Yorkie poos and their mama were a plus. The room was great with water view, ensuite bathroom, table/chairs and couches. No tv, but we never missed it. There is a pool table and shuffleboard in the common room. When we asked about a fish and chip place, Sandy's was recommended and the food was delicious.
The property is very well located. I'm glad I chose to stay here as it's right in Old Masset. April has a great wealth knowledge of the Haida heritage and she is a very talented artist (you will find shops and art galleries in Haida Gwaii and beyond carrying her work!). The breakfast is absolutely a delight and refreshing in the morning. You might also catch her puppies enjoying their breakfast too! Highly recommend and will stay again
We had a wonderful time at April's bed and breakfast. We came with our family of 5, and felt completely welcomed. The rooms were clean and beautiful. The breakfasts were amazing and beyond expectation. We loved perusing the art on the walls in the main area and are so happy with the piece we brought home. This is the Haida Gwaii we were so hoping to see. A house and a home and a genuine glimpse into the life of a true local treasure. We look forward to our next visit.
We stayed at April White's B&B for 2 days in Old Masset. We were in Flicker's Hideaway and Butterfly Cocoon.April and her helper Jen, were lovely hosts. There were 6 or so guests. The breakfasts were upstairs in April's home. We were altogether which was lovely for meeting others and finding out info about HG. The breakfasts were fabulous! The rooms were very large and private. It was a wonderful place to stay. I wiyuld recommend Old Masset. We felt immersed in another time almost. Jen also helped us to have a tour of a longhouse with a local man who gave us so much learning. Thank you! Ha'waa!
