Stayed at White Raven Inn (alternative name for Haida Gwaii Lodge) for three days in early September 2019, while travelling with my son. It proved a perfect base in Masset, with a large room (#1) overlooking Masset Sound. Two comfortable queen beds and a large ensuite bathroom. Communal kitchen area (hob, microwave, fridges but no oven) and a communal living area with pool table, shuffleboard, games, books etc. The excellent breakfast ( with a cooked item, fruit salad and homemade jams etc) is taken at a set time with the owner, April White. She is a Haida artist who is very interesting to talk to, and you can buy items of her art
I rented a room with my father for 10 days at the end of July 2019 and was very satisfied with the accommodations, staff, and breakfasts. We were traveling with three others all who also stayed at the lodge. We were greeted by the owner who was always available through out our stay to advise and offer suggestions. The room that we stayed in was modern and up to date with its own washroom-which was clean. The beds were comfy and the screen door to the ocean was a nice touch. Plenty of space and comfortable for someone who spends a large part of their day outside. Other rooms were under construction, but we were not bothered by any of that and I applaud the owner for taking the time to improve their facility. Breakfast was always on time and we were often surprised by local…
The possibilities of staying in Masset or Old Masset are limiting. Based on the ratings we decided to stay at this place. The host , her name is April, is distanced and has no understanding of what it means to run a B&B. She wants to be an artist. She has help with 2 ladies, who also seem to be disinterested and are not friendly. The B&B has a fixed breakfast time, 08:30. we came up at 08:40 and were punished with ignorance. No breakfast was serviced to us. We had to ask and at the end felt it’s not worth a fight. I serviced myself a coffee and asked whether I could get a couple of slices of toast. My wife got nothing, she was not asked once. There is no buffet. April and one of the ladies were sitting at the table with us. We stayed for 2 nights and left the second day…
We stayed in Room 3. (Room 2 is similar). Shared bathroom with shower. View of sunset was amazing. Very creative breakfasts (french toast on cranberry nut bread, an Israeli dish of eggs poached in tomatoes and always fresh fruit, toast, berry jams and yogurt and juice) served at 8:30 am daily. April White is and indigenous artist who owns the lodge and shares history, her research about her art, and many indigenous ways. In old Masset where there are many shops with artwork, argillite, and beautiful masks and carvings.
My husband and I stayed at Haida Gwaii Lodge in Old Masset while exploring the northern part of Graham Island and Naikoon Provincial Park. The lodge is owned by well-known artist, April White. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with an ensuite bath. The guest rooms are in the lower level of the beachfront house. A common room is in the centre with seating - as well as facilities for preparing light meals or the crabs you might catch. The guest rooms are located in two wings on either side of the common room. Breakfast is included and served upstairs. Each day breakfast featured a delicious, healthy start to the day. Seasonal berries (huckleberries) were in the breakfast fruit bowl during our stay. April, her family, and guests all dined together which made for a…
We had been looking forward to our trip to Masset and our stay at the B and B of the wonderful Haida artist, April White. I had read the reviews on the Haida Gwaii Lodge going back for many years and the reviews suggesting that the upkeep of the lodge was to say the least, subpar but it seemed that the complaints were subsiding and perhaps the work was being done. There is a long, long way to go. If you are planning to stay there be advised that there are piles building materials and construction supplies everywhere. There are broken windows and screens and the list goes on. I wish people on this website would be completely honest and tell things as they are so others can make informed decisions as to where to stay. I have never read that the Haida Gwaii Lodge does not have…
The experience that my wife and I had at "Haida Gwaii Lodge" (which may be changing its name) is similar to what other TripAdvisor reviewers have been (positively) reporting. We had room #2 which has two queen beds, an ensuite private three-piece bathroom, and a sitting room looking out (and opening out) on the lawn down to Masset Inlet. There are cupboards and drawers to store things in, and the beds are quite comfortable. The space has been very recently renovated, and very successfully so, with a lot of attention to detail in both design and execution. The morning breakfast was an extremely pleasant event with very good food and opportunity for interesting conversations on diverse subjects. April, who is a distinguished artist with a wide reputation, is entirely without…
Our room looked out on the inlet. It was very comfortable. Our host, an acclaimed Haida artist was friendly, helpful and a font of knowledge. She also made delicious breakfasts that catered to my dietary needs. Will stay again when we are back.
Staying at April White's Haida Gwaii Lodge was a wonderful experience for us. Haida Gwaii Lodge is actually April's home, and we really felt like we were her house guests. April and her family live on the upper floor of the house while guests live on the lower floor. We all visited over breakfast and whenever we wanted to see April's artwork displayed in her living room/gallery. For us, the combination of being in a family home while still having privacy of our own worked perfectly. In the guest area of the house, our bedroom was huge, and had wonderful floor to ceiling windows with a view of the water. The beds were comfortable and there was a seating area with a couch and coffee table so that if we wanted, we were able to spend a whole evening just in our room. …
Haida Gwaii is magical. It feels like you're at the end of the world. The air and weather is fresh and crisp. Whales and sea lions - birds and eagles, roaming deer everywhere, all make for a visual and wonderful experience. Watching the fishers coming and going in their boats made for beautiful photos. Breakfast was excellent with dietary restrictions included for those with special needs.
