I stayed here with my wife while attending a regatta in Algarrobo. We arrived quite late and received a warm welcome. Unfortunately they had a wedding the following day and the restaurant was closed.
The room was a reasonable size and I did not realize until the following morning what a fantastic view we had, the water was about 30 yards from our window.
There was no TV but it was not missed.
The following week we returned there for dinner. The menu is a little more expensive than other restaurants in the area, more like Santiago prices but I thing that this was the best meal we have had in Chile. Definitely try the fish soup but dont expect to eat much else afterwards. You can see into the kitchen from your table and everything is very clean.

The hotel is very reaonably priced and I will certainly return but will check if the restaurant is open first!

Restaurant & Hotel Medio Mundo honors its name: it is first and foremost a very good restaurant which doubles as an average hotel. Our room, Bosque Nativo was rather small with a nice balcony with a side view to the sea. The bathroom was just decent, small and cheap-looking. We reported a leak and it was fixed the following day although the staff explained that they could not get hold of the plumber sooner. Additionally, the towels were not dry enough which we found rather displeasing. We really felt that the rooms should have fridge and/or a kettle although I can understand why there isn't any. On the brighter side, the hotel boasts a really nice deck where you can sit and relax and even sip a delicious pisco sour (the best I tried in Algarrobo). The breakfast was very nice, we usually had fruits with either scrambled eggs or omelets which made for a bright start of the day. The staff were generally courteous and helpful. We ate at the restaurant only a few times; the food is very good although you can enjoy a much better dining experience at similarly priced restaurants. This is a good hotel if you plan to spend your days at the beach and occasionally staying in. Otherwise, there is not much to do there other than sitting at the balcony. In that case, it's probably much better value for money staying at an apartment or some of the various lodges and B&B around Algarrobo. I would only recommend this hotel to travellers which regard location and views better than facilities and services.

We decided to splurge and stay at the Medio Mundo. We had the Poetas room, which has the best view of the ocean. The balcony is a treat and we made good use of it relaxing. The view and sound of the ocean lulling us to sleep made it worth the price.

The pluses:
- The staff are very friendly and eager to serve. We don't speak much Spanish, so when we encountered staff that didn't speak English they did their best to ensure that our needs were met.
- The restaurant includes a deck out to the ocean. Great view and sheltered from the traffic of the crowds.

The downsides:
- The shower included a large window, right where you stand. While it can be managed to shower without a full (upper) frontal, it would have been nice if they frosted the glass.
- We managed to get the only parking stall, otherwise you're out of luck. I was told there was easy access to parking on the street, but in front of the hotel it had a sign with 30 minute restriction, so I'm not too sure what the case was.
- We had dinner there, which was quite good. We had to ask for our free welcome drink, although being New Years I'm gathering why this was overlooked. I had a steak, which I had asked for rare to medium rare. It came out close to well-done.

Bottom-line, I would go back as a treat, as the location and town was well-worth it.
And to clarify what a previous poster wrote, there is no pool at the hotel.

Price/quality not in line. The room only had light from a lamp, I had to go ask for heating, the smell of food inside the room is quite annoying.
There is also no shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer or toothpaste in the bathroom.
I hope tomorrow's breakfast is according to what they charge.
I highlight the cleanliness of the place and the lady who tried to explain the poor service.

we had a very bad experience in the restaurant. We used to go once in a while.
Last time the spagetti with salmon and lemon were uneatable.
When we asked them to change the plate they said the plate was ok.
Won´t visit this restaurant again

The location of this small hotel on the beach and near everything in Algarrobo is probably the number 1 reason we chose to stay here. The restaurant right on the premises is probably world class and serves amazing meals along with a pretty nice wine list and great pisco sours! The staff from the master chef to the cleaning personnel are very friendly and helpful. Most of the staff speak some english and will go out of their way to speak your language.

Although they don't have much parking we were given their parking space right in front of their restaurant in a semi private place. Our room overlooked the ocean (they have 2 that have this view) and it has a small patio with seating. The view at all times of the day is amazing. In the morning the surf hitting the rocks has a great sound, in the evening as the surf was out, we watched surfers heading out to the big waves right in our view. During the week, the restaurant has very few clients so in the evening you have very good service since most of their staff is all available. Our food was out of this world. In the morning the breakfast is personally made for you and you can have it either in your room or on the patio or in the restaurant. We chose to eat on the patio, and had only another set of guests who were in the vicinity. One evening as we were trying to watch the surfers out on the water, one of the staff brought over his own binoculars so we can watch them up close...that was just one of the things they did to make us feel comfortable among the many others. The only problem we had is the first night the place next to Medio Mundo is a tented shopping area and they have an all night security guard who decided to blast his radio all night. The next evening the noise was way down. We never complained so I can't blame them for this. You can walk to many beaches from here. We also would jog every morning to various places in the morning...highly recommend going towards the marina where they have a path that goes along the shore...really nice run. Overall this hotel exceeded our expectations. It is very beautiful and the beds are extremely comfy! I highly recommend to all kinds staying here.

My girlfriend and I are studying abroad in Santiago and decided to spend our anniversary weekend in Algarrobo at Hotel Medio Mundo. After staying in hostels on our other weekend trips, we decided to spend a weekend in a "nice" hotel, and were not disappointed! A full breakfast was served to us in our room each morning; the room was spotless and seemed to be brand-new (either it was just remodeled or it is superbly kept--either way it was great); the ocean view was as advertised, and very serene; the staff was helpful but not overbearing; and the hotel included a restaurant with a few tasty dishes.

A great hotel.

Hotel Medio Mundo is situated in the beautiful little town of Algarrobo right next to the Pacific. It is a small hotel with beautifully decorated rooms but compared to other hotels that we stayed at it is a bit too expensive. (over $100.00 US.) including a small breakfast.
Perhaps the high price is because Algarrobo is known for having the longuest pool in the world - over 1 km in length.
Parking can be a problem.

We only used the restaurant and did not stay at the hotel. We did see the rooms, though, and they are some of the nicest I have seen in this price range. Both the hotel and the restaurant use natural materials and have a cozy atmosphere.

The centre of Algarrobo is one of the nicer ones of the cities of Chile, and the restaurant is located in a nicely restored building, making a pleasant location for dining.

We tried a couple of dishes, and they were quite good, especially given the price which is not cheap but certainly reasonable. The deserts were more varied than usual.

All in all I would definitely recommend the restaurant, and probably the hotel as well.

My girlfriend and I stayed in hotel Medio Mundio to celebrate the changing of the year 2009/2010.
For us Algarrobo is an oasis of beauty and peace comparing to the big crowds in Viña del Mar and the giant Hotels in San Alfonso both close to Algarrobo.
The hotel itself for me is best to described with the dutch word "pittoresk". It is a wonderful small hotel with beautiful rooms and an extraordinary view of the ocean.
The staff is very nice and friendly. We had diner at the hotel in the evening of the 31st of december (with live music) and celebrated the changing of the year on the terrace with view over the ocean. The next day we ate breakfast on the balcony of our room and spent some time on beach which is about 5 minutes to walk to from the hotel.
For us the experience of Medio Mundo was one to remember and we are sure we will come back to visit again.
