Our first trip to CR, and we already want to return. Monteverde/Santa Elena is a mountainous and more remote area of small towns and ranches, so prissy visitors may initially recoil at the arduous trip in and dusty unpaved roads. Once you are here you just feel safe, welcome and excited. Our room is very large and very charming, definite...

This was our 2nd destination from San Jose and when we arrived I immediately had this sense of peace. I loved the layout of the villas, our room was huge, beautifully decorated and because it's elevated, the view we had was just beautiful. We took advantage of the night walk tour nearby(upon the recommendation from the gentleman at the reception...

I was there 2/5-7 with 5 other family members in 3 rooms. The hotel rooms we super large and had "a lot of charm and character" as did the entire facility. The rooms, decor and furniture made you feel like a guest in an old country estate. Since we were a ways from the actual town it was very nice...

We just showed up after being told that they were sold out. Just stayed one night with my adult children. Good food at reasonable price. Note, we stayed in room 3 in a villa. There are must better and more expensive rooms available. I checked one out and it was significantly better.

We stayed for two nights at the Fonda Vela as part of a tour of Costa Rica. Our room was large and comfortable with two large beds a couch and table and chairs. The decor is somewhat uncoordinated. We could sit on the terrace outside our room to watch the sunset in quiet and peaceful surroundings. The restaurant provided good...

Fonda Vela has a great location near the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. We had a junior suite with a nice sitting area overlooking the grounds. The pool and restaurant were close by. Although there were other rooms attached, the accommodations seemed private. It's a short cab ride to town if you're interested but we had most of our meals at...

This is a great place--each room is different and beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Everything here is done in rich wood: the floors, ceilings, walls. The owner is a painter so the place is filled with original art work, all for sale. The restaurant here is good-- the best we had in all of Costa Rica (where the food in...

This is quite a nice hotel although a little out of town. Unfortunately our room was in the top block on the bottom at the back; all a bit bit gloomy and nowhere to sit. That said the room itself was well fitted out although with just wooden ceilings/floors it can be a bit noisy. Other blocks had much better...

Lovely, relaxed, good food, charming staff. The food is good, but beware, many (but not all of) the portions are USA size – so order one for 2 and share it. There is a little touch of amateurism here – but it is charming and friendly and not inefficient. We had a lovely room with an great view. Go for...
